🌍 Transforming Healthcare Through Collaboration: Reflections on My Summer with The Synergist This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work with The Synergist.org, a not-for-profit organisation that unites stakeholders from various sectors to collaboratively tackle societal challenges. My project was focused on the From Testing to Targeted Treatments (FT3) initiative, which aims to improve access to precision medicine - a field that uses genetics, environment, and lifestyle to tailor healthcare to individual patients. One of the highlights of my experience was attending the Patient Engagement Open Forum (PEOF) where I helped facilitate workshops and sessions focused on: 🧠 How research funders can involve patients early in the research process, aligning research with actual patient needs and concerns. 📢 Advocacy roadmaps, identifying access barriers and offering strategies for effective advocacy to ensure precision medicine is accessible to all. Throughout my time at The Synergist, I worked on: 📊 Mapping out evidence requirements to convince power-holders to implement precision medicine. 🌍 Comparing global Health Technology Assessment (HTA) processes to understand how differences impact healthcare systems. 📈 Mapping evidence for measuring healthcare technology value using a novel framework suggested by ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research to support patient-centered evaluations. 💡 This experience broadened my understanding of global health systems, particularly the challenges of ensuring equitable access to advanced healthcare technologies and the need for health policies that promote inclusivity and health equity for all. I am deeply grateful for the personal and professional growth this experience has provided. I’ve seen firsthand how leveraging collective intelligence and aligning efforts towards shared goals can lead to transformative and meaningful change. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to The Synergist team and my supervisors Vincent Raske and Silvia Bornengo for their invaluable guidance throughout my project.
