UK GOVERNMENT TO DELIVER £8BN LOWER THAMES CROSSING TUNNEL The UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves has confirmed the government’s commitment to deliver the proposed Lower Thames Crossing tunnel project. Lower Thames Crossing is a proposed road crossing of the Thames estuary downstream of the Dartford Crossing, connecting the counties of Kent and Essex. The nearly 14.3 miles (23km) route passes through the districts of Thurrock and Gravesham. According to Rachel Reeve's statement, the road tunnel construction would cost more than £8bn, which will be mostly financed by the private sector. A joint venture team comprising Bouygues Travaux Publics, Murphy, Balfour Beatty plc and Skanska has been awarded the contract for the Lower Thames Crossing tunnel. Balfour Beatty plc will build the roads North of the Thames and Skanska the roads in Kent. National Highways has awarded the Bouygues Travaux Publics-Murphy joint venture the contract to construct the tunnels for the project, using TBM technology. The project will become the UK’s first project to avoid the use of diesel machines on site, with all mobile equipment being either electric or hydrogen-powered, to reduce emissions targets. The final stage of the North South Corridor in South Australia has achieved a major milestone with the selection of the preferred alliance partner for the State’s largest-ever infrastructure project. The consortium, comprising John Holland, Bouygues Construction Australia, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs, and Ventia, has been chosen to deliver this transformative project. The North South Corridor, a critical 78-kilometre route from Gawler to Old Noarlunga, will serve as the primary north-south traffic artery, including for freight vehicles. A key part of this project is the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) section, the final 10.5-kilometre stretch that will eliminate 21 sets of traffic lights, ensuring a non-stop journey along the entire corridor. 📣 Bothar Lands Major Contract in Victoria’s Eastern Freeway Upgrade! 📣 Bothar is pleased to be awarded works to relocate a sewer at Doncaster Road as part of the Eastern Freeway Upgrade: Burke to Tram Road, being delivered by Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance (EBTA) with Laing O’Rourke, Symal, Arcadis and WSP. The Eastern Freeway Upgrade between Burke and Tram roads is a major project in Victoria which includes major road and bridge upgrades as well as a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels.   In line with the project’s objectives, the design has been optimised to prioritise the use of existing sewer infrastructure wherever practicable. This approach ensures that resources are utilised efficiently while minimising disruption to the surrounding community and environment. By addressing the challenges posed by the freeway and busway extension, the Doncaster Road sewer relocation works will safeguard the integrity of the sewer system and provide long-term operational sustainability. The new sewer network will support future growth in the area and contribute to the ongoing success of the infrastructure upgrades. Bothar’s scope of (Early Works) on the Doncaster Package includes: - The construction of secant piled shafts, a specialised shaft construction technique. - Installation of approximately 430m of new sewer mains, incorporating multiple diameters to meet the needs of the existing and future sewer network. - The installation of new sewer maintenance holes to support the new sewer alignment and facilitate maintenance operations. - The decommissioning of redundant sewer assets that are no longer required as part of the updated sewer system design.
