The InnoNation Festival is upcoming. And like last year, we can use this occasion to present the new results of the Innovationsindikator 2024. Have you become interested? Registrations are possible here: https://lnkd.in/eVPreEQP I am looking forward to my participation as a panellist in the session "Innovationsindikator - Learnings und Transfer in die Praxis": Germany is under pressure: new and old competitors are changing their strategies, but can the science and innovation system react quickly enough to take transfer to a new level and can companies in Germany bring enough profitable new products and business models to the market and to customers? Research-innovation-growth-prosperity - have we laid the right foundations or do we need to speed up innovation to survive in an intensifying global technology competition? I am really excited to discuss these and other questions with expert colleagues from industry, science and policy. It’s a tough gig, opening the last day of a conference after an awards dinner the night before! But Prof Tim Vorley OBE, Christine Doel and Andrew Carter, ably chaired by John Leake - Sci-Tech Daresbury more than rose to the challenge with a great discussion on innovation clusters. My favourite points were; “Thinking about sectors independently is less helpful than looking at how they relate” and “think of clusters as verbs not nouns”. This led on nicely to a panel I joined (representing #UKInnovationDistrictsGroup) alongside Phil Carvil, Joshua Hawkins, Placi Espejo, Angela Kukula, Philip Macdonald chaired by Jo Stevens, who all know a thing or two about innovation clusters and hotspots! I was taken by how the UK space cluster might offer some valuable insights and potentially a blueprint for what a ‘Team GB approach’ to cluster development can look like in order to operate on a world-wide scale (and beyond!). My main reflections on innovation clusters were: 1. Size isn’t everything 2. Don’t forget the human scale 3. Hotspots in clusters are key 4. What we measure counts 5. How do you measure partnership strength? If you’re measuring partnership strength with respect to an innovation hub or cluster, I’d love to hear from you to learn more about how. Drop me line. This role encompasses marketing responsibilities as well as business development, market research, B2B project management and event management. 🎤 Eva, what is your role in the Life Science ecosystem? 🔊 As Director of Health, I am most of the time supporting Austrian Life Science companies on their #internationalization journey. Each journey is unique, therefore also the services provided by Advantage Austria are tailored to each company. Thus, on one day I am a business development consultant and on the other day I am the facilitator to our network of offices around the globe. Furthermore, I am organizing the #HealthDay, which has the goal of bridging trending topics, innovation and direct B2B talks on an international and national level. 🎤 How do you perceive Austria as a location for life sciences? 🔊 I can only echo the previous LISA heroes. Austria is an ideal hub for business ventures in the life science sector. Centered in the heart of Europe, companies can leverage not only the strategic location for their international business but also use the provided infrastructure, collaborate with leading institutions, and have access to an innovative research ecosystem with brilliant minds. Not to forget, within that ecosystem the groundwork for Nobel prizes was laid. 🎤 What are the trends you observe in the Life Science sector in Austria? 🔊 Even in times of regulatory challenges (eg. MDR/IVDR, EHDS, AI act), Austrians are contributing immensely to the research and development of new technologies and treatments. The focus is still on precision medicine, new laboratory diagnostic approaches, research on cancer and neuro-degenerative diseases. Regarding international attention, I can also see that the biotech sector for example is getting more and more traction thanks also to events such as the Biotech Summit Austria. We asked some of our brilliant minds at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Jonas Söderström at BioStock answered:   "Summers are spent with my family and we always try to squeeze in a trip to Italy 🇮🇹, preferably driving down (by EV of course) so we can explore spontaneously along the way. As someone said: ”the journey is the goal, not the actual destination” – or something like that. And when mentioning goals: being in Milan surrounded by crazy football fans when Italy scored that last-second goal to stay in the Euro Cup was one spectacular memory we got, this time around!    At BioStock we have our sights set on providing our clients and Swedish life science with even more visibility and value, by constantly developing new services, build our media platform and expand our popular events. With the successful premiere of the Global Forum event in May behind us, we’re looking forward to the BioStock Summit i November with several new features (cliffhanger!), but before that we’ll also have an investor focused event in Stockholm in September… it’s gonna be great.
