What does community mean to you? 🤔 This weekend, I had the privilege of attending the Oktoberfest event hosted by Charter Senior Living. The atmosphere was electric, the food was delicious, and the company was even better. A heartfelt thank you to Kamini Cotton for the invitation! Supporting our seniors is not just a duty; it’s a joy. It reminds us of the rich tapestry of experiences and wisdom they bring to our lives. Each conversation, each smile shared, is a reminder of the importance of connection and community. During the event, I met some incredible new friends—Tanya Haswell and Gretchen Hahn. Our laughter echoed through the festivities, reinforcing the idea that relationships are the heart of any community. It’s these connections that create a sense of belonging, not just for our seniors but for all of us. As we look ahead to the launch of the new location and more events, I’m reminded of the impact we can have when we come together. Supporting one another, sharing experiences, and celebrating life is what truly enriches our communities. So, here’s a thought: How can we all contribute to building stronger connections in our communities? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Drop a comment below with your ideas. If you found this post insightful, please give it a like and share it with your network. Let’s spread the message of community and connection! #CommunityMatters #SupportSeniors #Connection

👨🏻🚀 T-3 Days to Launch 🚀 The Importance of Participation and Sustaining Community 🌍 In my journey of community building, I’ve experienced firsthand how challenging it can be to keep a community engaged. You can have the best events and the most vibrant spaces, but without the right incentives, participation often fizzles out. 😓 That’s why we’ve introduced the CIVIT Status system within our universal shared living platform—the Shared Living Hub. Our ecosystem not only connects people but also rewards them for staying active and contributing to the community. 🎯 ✨ CIVIT Status offers a tiered reward system where members can earn 30% to 70% discounts on CIVIT events, courses, products, and services—simply by being engaged. And here’s the best part: as a community leader, you can personalize these rewards, tailoring them to fit your community’s unique needs and goals. Imagine your community thriving, with everyone motivated to participate—not just within your property, but across our global platform. CIVIT Status transforms community involvement into something valuable, sustainable, and rewarding. 🌟 Join us on September 4th at 11AM EDT to discover how our ecosystem is designed to keep communities not just alive but thriving—connecting people locally and globally in meaningful ways. 🎟 Special Offer: All attendees will receive a 3-month Enthusiast Membership for free! 📅 Request an Invite to the CIVIT Launchpad and Register for the Event: https://lnkd.in/eRu7ktWg Once you’ve joined the launchpad, you can register for the event. Let’s build communities that last, within a platform that supports them on every level! 💪 #CommunityEngagement #UniversalPlatform #SharedLivingHub #CIVIT #Incentives

"So Clair, what are these Neotists all about? I mean is it like a volunteer group? I mean I've heard of them and I'm aware of them through the stuff they do with the council, but what are they? It sounds ridiculous but I really don't know. Is it a volunteer group to do art-based stuff around St Neots?" A question from someone who knows me and Richard and a few other Neotists quite well, who has lived in St Neots for the last 10 years we've been around, but felt a bit confused and quite rightly asked the question. It made me realise that we've fallen into that trap like many of you here on LinkedIn have (see what I did there? Making it relevant...) We forgot to shout about the things we do, who we are, how we do them, who we work with, what we achieve, basically all of it. For 10 years. When you're busy doing the do, you totally forget to stop for that selfie, or write up that article, or share that win. It's great that we've been so busy focused and we've achieved so much - however, the downside of that is that people have mistakenly attributed our work and achievements to others. There are those who will only too gladly take credit for your work, fill the gap you leave from not posting relentlessly about your every move, who will ride on the back of your success. So it's time to own it! Own the part we have to play in St Neots and the future plans of the largest town in Cambridgeshire. Shout about the award winning St Neots Festival which returns this July. Reach out to each of our members who are keen to collaborate and grow with us. Take the wins and share the successes! If you'd like to know more about those Neotists, take a look at how it all began... (link in comments cos it's LinkedIn init)

Re:takes, our headshot pop-up event at Brandish | A Creative Agency, is built on a universal truth: having your photo taken is so awkward. Every time someone steps in front of the camera, we hear the same things: “I’m not good at taking photos” or “What do I do? Can you direct me?” But here’s the thing: if you’re a knowledge worker, having a great headshot has never been more important. It’s not just a picture—it’s how you humanize yourself online, tell your story, and share your work with the world (I love a profile pic that shares a bit of your personality!). Who else feels like headshots are the ultimate mix of awkward and essential? #Retakes #Professionalheashots
Our coziest Re:takes yet! A few weeks ago, we hosted a holiday edition of our headshot pop-up, Re:takes. This event marked a full year of hosting these pop-ups, and it was truly heartwarming to see how far they’ve come and the sense of community they’ve built along the way. A big thank you to everyone who joined us and our amazing event partners, Modern Electric Lunch and Nonsense Studio, for making it so special! 🤩 If you were at Re:takes and haven’t seen your photos yet, check your email first—then shoot us a message!

Our research question is: “How and to what extent is the academic community at UU analysing, critiquing and designing the (concepts and intersections) of Justice, Power, Transformation and Sustainability?” In mapping the answer, we launched a survey that yielded 97 responses and conducted 9 in-depth interviews across Utrecht University. We will also present on the Dynamic Learning Agenda: what questions emerged from our Community Day 1 session? How can we/do we want to take these forward? We will end the event by thanking you all for being involved with JUPITA with drinks & snacks and space for communing. By 17.30, we need to leave the premises. If there is interest, we are more than happy to 'take the party elsewhere' and continue our discussions and celebrations! Yesterday my 16-yr old and I volunteered at the St. Louis Earth Day festival 🌍 (deemed “the largest Earth Day celebration in the Midwest.”) Yes, he agreed to do it alongside me this year as he needed the service hours to fulfill a high school requirement – but I’d also like to think/hope that it inspired him, at least a little. We were positioned at one of the footpath entrances and had three responsibilities: 1) keep a steady count of how many people were coming into the festival, 2) ask those leaving if they wanted to recycle their programs and 3) share a QR code with a short survey to solicit feedback from festival-goers. Right away, as his finger clicked away on the counter, he couldn’t believe how quickly the numbers added up and over the course of the 3-hour window, we tracked over 1,200 people walking in. During this time, we had an opportunity to talk about all kinds of things: the purpose of the festival, the importance of bringing attention to Earth Day, and why what we – as a society – are doing for our Earth right now is going to impact his future family, including his children, grand-children and great grand-children. When the convo got a bit too deep, we took a breather and enjoyed the beauty around us (there were turtles swimming in the stream nearby & a gorgeous egret showing off ☺️.) Honestly, it’s sometimes difficult to tell with teenagers what sticks and how much it will mean long-term, however, I will never stop trying and I will most definitely never stop modeling how I give-back and dedicate my time and energy to things that truly matter. earthday365 #earthday #giveback #raisingleaders #futuregenerations

I think I'm being silly but hey, what if I'm enjoying this "silliness" of mine and having fun? I would revel in it and make the most of it who knows, the opportunity may not come again 🤣 It's #SocialSaturday let's have some fun and talk about one silly thing you did recently. Let me go first. I was among my plants when it started drizzling. My first thought was my childhood days when we would purposely get wet. Then I said who cares, and that was how I got soaked but I had a lot of fun while at it. Now you know the silly thing I did, what is yours? --------------------------------------- ----------- Are you ready for Sunday? Have you registered? --------------------------------------------- I shall be joining apdacademy tomorrow on LinkedIn Live. Link will be in comment section ------------------------------------------------- Registration for the Professional Speaking Workshop is filling up well. Share to those who need it. ------------------------------------------------ #speakwithMOS #socialsaturday #phoenixgate

I am excited to announce that I, alongside my long-time best friend Richard Perez Jr. and friend from Fordham, Mahir Asef are starting on a project near and dear to our hearts. Forgive my long ramble or as my students would call it "yap session" but this is really something I feel passionate about. I like to believe I have a unique perspective on the Computer Science field as someone who is both a student and a teacher. It has been a field that I fell in love with from a young age, creating video games, websites, simple fun programs. When time came around to decide what my career would be it was an easy choice, alongside being a military officer, I wanted to be a Software Engineer, and in 2019-2020, becoming a software engineer was promised with a CS Degree. Everyone was getting into it, as the government and society itself pushed for more CS Majors, and it created an overabundance of CS Students. Come 2023, all of a sudden, the memes start coming out, "You're cooked if you are a CS Major" and while I like to believe a majority of these jokes were in good humor, it held a tinge of reality behind it. When I started teaching coding at the amazing nonprofit All Star Code in 2022, the atmosphere of future CS Degree majors was of hope and passion, to get into college and get that degree, and fast forward to 2024, students held a different view, it was no longer in learning the material but instead of what would help their resume in getting the next internship. The truth of it is, you have to get an internship to get an internship. When internships were made to give you experience, you now have to have experience to get an internship. I spoke to so many peers in the CS field, and with the exception of geniuses who I can never hope to be on the same level as, most of my peers who are average Joes and Joans like me feel lost and hopeless. In this now over competitive field of technology, people grind on leetcode, go to Hackathons, and create cookie cutter projects because employee X from big company Y told them it would get them noticed, where is the fun in that? Pomecode is my passion project, that I am creating in hopes of making a social platform where people will get to escape that toxic competitive environment yet stay in adherence to the reality of getting a job in this economy. Where people from all backgrounds can meet, create their own communities within, and create projects either alone or together in what they're passionate about, and show it off. I invite all those who I have worked with previously in any capacity to share their thoughts with me. If you want to contribute to this project and add it to your resume Will it succeed? Only time can tell but at the end of the day me and team will be able to work on something we're passionate about and be able to serve the community. Stay tuned!
The team at Pomecode is excited to get started on the vision we hold. To be a community accessible to all CS students, as a guiding light for others to gather together to create amazing things, and even more so in this competitive environment lead and guide others on. In the coming months we hope to show more and more of our vision coming to life.
