At the main summit of Unlocking capital for sustainability Jessica Cheam, Founder and Managing Director, Eco-Business, highlighted that no single country is on track to meet its SDG targets. She urges action to counter apathy. Asia is blessed, she said, but the blessings come with great responsibilities. Ravi Menon, Ambassador for Climate Action & Senior Adviser (National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore), says, “The only KPI that matters is what’s happening to global temperatures and greenhouse gas emissions. And it’s in Asia that the battle for climate change will be won or lost.” Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS), emphasised shared responsibility, pointing out that all of humanity is on a single boat that may yet sink or float. He believes that by setting better examples and making the necessary sacrifices, the world can win the battle against climate change. I believe that the power is in our hands! Our procurement decisions, both individually and corporately, have the potential to either elevate or mitigate the climate crisis. In our daily choices, we set trends and create demand for sustainable alternatives. By rejecting products that harm both us and the environment, we push regulators to take action, driving change from both the top down and the bottom up. It’s essential to be informed—choose to know. Read the labels, understand the supply chains behind the products we consume. Together, we must unite and advocate for a better future for our children and future generations. #Impact #Sustainability #Change #Empowerment

Six Pathways to Sustainable Development 🌎 The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has identified six key transition pathways that are essential to accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. These pathways offer strategic directions for global efforts in various sectors. Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss, and Pollution Management - This pathway emphasizes strengthening commitments under the Paris Agreement, improving ecosystem management, reducing disaster impacts, and integrating actions for climate and biodiversity. Energy Transition - It involves transitioning to renewable energy sources, enhancing energy efficiency, and providing universal access to affordable, clean electricity, including solutions for clean cooking. Transformation of Food Systems - Actions include eliminating hunger and malnutrition, shifting away from environmentally harmful agricultural practices, protecting biodiversity, and striving for climate neutrality in food production. Education Transformation - Focuses on significant investments in education, from early childhood development to enhancing scientific research, aiming to equip future generations with necessary skills and knowledge. Social Protection and Decent Jobs - This pathway advocates for universal health care and social protection, promoting gender equality and inclusion, and advancing decent job opportunities to drive economic prosperity. Inclusive Digitalization - Aims at achieving universal digital access, promoting equal opportunities in banking and financial services, and encouraging participation in higher technology activities to ensure broad-based benefits from digital advances. Each pathway not only represents a critical area of development but also outlines actionable steps that nations and organizations can implement to align with global sustainability objectives. #sustainability #sustainable #esg #climatechange #climateaction #sdgs #strategy #sustainabledevelopment

Comprehensive Strategies for Sustainable Development As a sustainability expert, it is crucial to understand how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are interconnected and can be addressed through specific and transformative strategies. The presented diagram clearly illustrates these connections and highlights the main areas of action. Social Protection and Decent Jobs Eradicating poverty (SDG 1) and hunger (SDG 2) depends on social protection and the creation of decent jobs. These measures also improve health (SDG 3) and promote gender equality (SDG 5). Strategies: Implement social protection policies. Promote jobs with safe working conditions. Continuous training to improve job skills. Transformed Education Systems Quality education (SDG 4) is fundamental for a sustainable society. Reforming education systems to include sustainability topics is crucial. Strategies: Update educational curricula. Invest in sustainable educational infrastructure. Ensure equity in education. Digital Transformation Digital transformation improves access to health services (SDG 3), education (SDG 4), and affordable energy (SDG 7), as well as fostering innovation (SDG 9). Strategies: Invest in accessible digital infrastructure. Promote digital literacy. Use digital technologies to improve energy efficiency. Energy Access and Affordability Ensuring access to clean energy (SDG 7) is vital for reducing emissions (SDG 13) and stimulating economic growth. Strategies: Promote renewable energies. Implement policies and subsidies for clean energy. Innovate in energy storage and distribution. Sustainable Food Systems To eradicate hunger (SDG 2) and protect the environment (SDG 15), food systems must be sustainable. Strategies: Promote regenerative agriculture. Reduce food waste. Strengthen food supply chains. Climate Change and Biodiversity Addressing climate change (SDG 13) and biodiversity loss (SDGs 14 and 15) is essential for the planet's health. Strategies: Implement climate change mitigation and adaptation policies. Conserve ecosystems. Reduce pollution. Conclusion Sustainable development requires a holistic approach. The mentioned strategies not only address the SDGs individually but also foster synergistic solutions. Promoting and implementing these strategies is essential to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for all. #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #SocialProtection #QualityEducation #DigitalTransformation #CleanEnergy #SustainableFoodSystems #ClimateAction #Biodiversity #RenewableEnergy #DecentJobs #GenderEquality #EnvironmentalProtection #ClimateChange #SustainabilityExpert #GreenFuture #RegenerativeAgriculture #CircularEconomy #EcoFriendly #GlobalGoals

In 2024, #EnvironmentalMarkets are poised for a revival. With a focus on transparency and integrity, stakeholders aim to rebuild trust in carbon markets and increase funding for conservation efforts. Criticism from 2023 has spurred unity and accountability, setting the stage for progress. Following a challenging year for the #CarbonMarket in 2023, marked by accusations of failure and mistrust, 2024 presents an opportunity for renewal. Recent discussions at #COP28 in Dubai emphasized the crucial link between #ClimateChange and #Biodiversity agendas, setting the tone for future collaboration, including the upcoming CBD COP16 in Colombia. A renaissance in #EnvironmentalMarkets would not only restore trust and integrity, but also channel more money to developing countries facing the worst impacts of #ClimateChange, provide visibility on the impact of projects on #LocalCommunities, and measure in real time the conservation benefits to #Nature. Pleasingly, a year of scrutiny and criticism has brought a rare moment of focus and unity. Charting a path forward means doing things differently to reshape the market and make it stronger. In an era of cutting-edge technology, this powerful tool is at the forefront of providing the transparency needed to rebuild trust and create the momentum to embrace more ambitious targets for action. Harnessing the power of education and capacity building also sets as a effective way to strengthen local commitment and set strong governance structures for more ambitious and impactful interventions. Together, with innovation and leadership, let's ensure that transparency and fairness become the cornerstones of our approach to conservation interventions, paving the way for a more sustainable future where every investment contributes not only to environmental protection, but also to the well-being of communities and the health of the planet. #Biodiversity #Transparency #Innovation #Conservation #PositiveImpact
