Delighted to be a successful co-applicant for this HRB grant, working with an amazing team at Trinity College Dublin. Our research team will develop and evaluate a digital solution for PrEP delivery in Ireland. The goal is to increase capacity and access to this important HIV prevention tool. Outputs from the pilot are also expected to inform digital healthcare delivery in Ireland more generally.

Three researchers from Trinity College Dublin School of Medicine have been awarded Health Research Board (HRB) grants today through the new Evidence for Policy Programme, for patient-oriented research projects. 🏥 Aditya Joshi is part of a team that has secured a $980K funding via the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grants for 2025. Led by Padmanesan Narasimhan from UNSW Medicine & Health, the project will develop an LLM-based conversation agent to assist patients with limited English proficiency in Emergency Departments. Language barriers can significantly impact patient care, and this project will ensure faster, more accurate triage assessments and improve overall patient experience in high-stress environments.

LSHTM rises to 2nd in the world for public health, its highest ever position in the global ShanghaiRanking 2024, and remains 1st in the UK for public health. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) has been ranked 2nd in the world for public health in the 2024 ShanghaiRanking, while retaining its top place for public health among UK universities. It is LSHTM’s highest position in the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects since it was first published in its current format in 2017, moving up from number 3 in the world for public health in 2023. The results are a recognition of LSHTM’s prestigious research and study programmes in public and global health. They are based on a range of indicators including academic awards and achievements, research quality, and international collaboration. More than 1,900 universities are listed in the rankings. In this year’s rankings Harvard University retained the top spot while LSHTM moved into 2nd ahead of Johns Hopkins University, now ranked 4th. UCL, in 3rd position, was the next closest UK university with the University of Oxford in 5th. Speaking truthfully to power, with real evidence.

Henny and I wrote a piece on the mental health of postdocs for CSPC. Unfortunately, it is not good news: 79% of postdocs in Canada reported mental health challenges (2019 data). Postdocs are often uprooted from their support systems for precarious positions with short term contracts. We believe more work is needed to ensure postdocs have access to the resources they need and can do their research in a supportive research environment.

Excited to be leading this important research delving deep into the structural, organisational, and individual factors that shape the workplace experiences and career trajectories of racially and ethnically minoritised women in medicine. #intersectionalitymatters and when it comes to advancing #genderequity, it is essential to understand that this cannot be done in a truly genuine or meaningful way without intentionally recognising and embracing the diversity and nuance of lived experience. Great short video outlining the evidence base for need in Aotearoa NZ

Super interesting to attend yesterday's symposium organised by UCL Health of the Public (part of UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences), and hear the panel speak on Breaking Boundaries to Interdisciplinary Working. What struck me most were the introductions to:   --> DSIT/UKRI Metascience Unit for improving understanding into the funding ecosystem itself, and how it shapes research outputs/career outcomes.  -->Truly interdisciplinary grant schemes e.g. UKRI's Cross Research Council Responsive Mode scheme. -->Ways of reducing bias in peer-review, including the mind-blowing concept of random awarding of grants. --> Local government as a research partner, with the agency & means to conduct research for societal impact and enact decisions based on the evidence e.g. NIHR's HDRC initiative.   Great work UCL Health of the Public, and I look forward to future events.   #publichealth #populationhealth #interdisciplinarity #interdisciplinaryresearch #translationalresearch
