Super interesting to attend yesterday's symposium organised by UCL Health of the Public (part of UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences), and hear the panel speak on Breaking Boundaries to Interdisciplinary Working. What struck me most were the introductions to: --> DSIT/UKRI Metascience Unit for improving understanding into the funding ecosystem itself, and how it shapes research outputs/career outcomes. -->Truly interdisciplinary grant schemes e.g. UKRI's Cross Research Council Responsive Mode scheme. -->Ways of reducing bias in peer-review, including the mind-blowing concept of random awarding of grants. --> Local government as a research partner, with the agency & means to conduct research for societal impact and enact decisions based on the evidence e.g. NIHR's HDRC initiative. Great work UCL Health of the Public, and I look forward to future events. #publichealth #populationhealth #interdisciplinarity #interdisciplinaryresearch #translationalresearch

This study revealed that the first cohort of health information science students has positive attitudes and perceptions of pursuing the course. This is a good indication that the course could attract more students and address the country's current health information challenges. A very exciting week for the OH-HI Science CoLab! Our team has received funding from Michael Smith Health Research BC for two projects! One will scope wildlife health and Indigenous food sovereignty priorities in collaboration with community, and the other will create a museum exhibit showcasing The experiences and voices of Long COVID patients to raise awareness of the impacts of this illness on patients and caregivers. The C2 and Reach awards are exceptional in their focus on building relationships and mobilizing knowledge and we are grateful to MSHR BC for this opportunity and to the Pacific Public Health Foundation for their partnered support of the Long COVID exhibit.
Congratulations to the FHS faculty members who secured seven (7) Michael Smith Health Research BC team research awards in the 2024 competition! 🎉 MSHRBC offered grants in two categories - the Convening and Collaborating (C2) program and the Reach program. Both programs support investigators and their teams to co-develop research with research users, and to disseminate the findings of their research to the public. Please join us in celebrating the following researchers and their teams. - Assistant Professor Kaylee Byers, PhD, who won BOTH(!) a C2 and a Reach Award - Associate Professor Kanna Hayashi (C2) - Adjunct Professor DJ Larkin (Reach) - Assistant Professor Lyana Patrick (Reach) - Associate Professor Travis Salway (C2) - Assistant Professor Kimberly Thomson (C2) Learn more about their projects here: https://lnkd.in/gyvGEzhE #SFUResearch #SFUFHS #SFUHealthSciences #HealthSciencesResearch #HealthResearch #publichealth #populationhealth

Excited to be leading this important research delving deep into the structural, organisational, and individual factors that shape the workplace experiences and career trajectories of racially and ethnically minoritised women in medicine. #intersectionalitymatters and when it comes to advancing #genderequity, it is essential to understand that this cannot be done in a truly genuine or meaningful way without intentionally recognising and embracing the diversity and nuance of lived experience. Stay tuned for more updates! #womeninleadership #womeninhealthcare #healthleadership
⭐ This week we are highlighting our research and impact streams, and are delighted to introduce you to the team who are working with our partners to inform and drive change ⭐ Ife Adesina is a qualitative researcher, research assistant and AWHL PhD candidate, and is undertaking her PhD to understand the experiences and career trajectories of racially and ethnically minoritised women doctors. This is important work, because we know that women from racially and ethnically minoritised backgrounds experience additional layers of discrimination that affects their career progression. One-size-fits-all approaches to gender equity are inadequate and do not fully capture the nuanced factors that influence career trajectories. You can hear from Ife and find out more about her work here: https://bit.ly/3P9hE3V #womeninleadership #countherin #IWD24 Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation Monash University Jacqueline Boyle A/Prof Nada Hamad Anju Joham Helena Teede

Great short video outlining the evidence base for need in Aotearoa NZ
In our most recent publication, Dr Belinda Loring was interviewed by us to discuss the recent editorial, Ethnicity is an evidence-based marker of need (and targeting services is good medical practice) written by her. The Summary "Dr Belinda Loring, Public Health Physician and Senior Research Fellow is a co-author of this journal publication’s editorial, Ethnicity is an evidence-based marker of need (and targeting services is good medical practice). Dr Loring speaks to us about the science behind ethnic targeting in health and provides us with some insight on the subject at hand. Dr Loring and the other authors have dedicated many years of research into evidence-based markers of population health needs. She is based at Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at The University of Auckland.".
