Day in Day out🥺suicide headline😩 I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a young life in Thamaga. Suicide among adolescents is a concerning issue that requires our urgent attention. It's distressing to see that we are seemingly recording suicide cases on a daily basis. We must create safe spaces for young people to express their emotions and seek support without fear of judgment. Let’s parent better, let’s befriend our kids, and allow them to openly talk to their parents. Let’s fix our dysfunctional families. Let's break the silence surrounding mental health and prioritize early intervention and support services for those in need. Let's work towards building a society where every individual feels valued and supported. #YourPsychBae #CharlotteRuwona #MentalHealthMatters #RIP #BreakTheSilence #MentalHealthMatters

It is no surprise that there are a lack of mental health providers. However, there have been recent changes in legislation to allow for inter-state access to licensed providers Also, there is a growing list of online providers and resources. Unfortunately, this may not be enough to address our youth mental health crisis. Opportunities can exist through the following: - Accessible and affordable care through insurance partnerships requiring more providers that accept private insurance as well as state Medicaid. - Pediatric providers can meet youth where they are instead of on a couch or over zoom. Some providers have found great success safely conducting sessions while playing a game of catch, taking a walk, or while grooming a therapy pet. Let's be innovative! #mentalhealth #youthmentalhealthcrisis
Lack of social support is a significant social determinant of youth #mentalhealth, especially when it comes to anxiety and depression. Social isolation can heighten feelings of loneliness and stress, leading to worsening mental health. Without a supportive network, young people are more vulnerable to isolation and worsening symptoms. By building a supportive network through community programs, school activities, and peer support, we can help youth feel connected and understood. In Pennsylvania, over 40% of students report feeling depressed or anxious "most of the time," according to the PA Youth Survey (PAYS). Even more concerning, 60% of children who die by suicide never received mental health support (CDC). Our current mental health system often waits until children are in crisis before offering care. On this National Depression Screening Day, let’s commit to reimagining how we support youth mental health—ensuring every child has access to care before it's too late. Join Children First in advocating for a proactive system that supports children and families. According to the latest Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Survey on Drug Use and Health, self-reported rates substance use, mental illness, and suicidal thoughts/attempts have declined slightly year to year. In addition, rates of recovery from mental health or substance use issues have increased. While it is great to see some progress being made with substance use and mental health at a national level, there’s still much work to be done – especially in our Long Island community. Ask R U OK? Any Day 💛 At Parkerville Children and Youth Care, we recognise the importance of mental health services and providing support for those around you. Through our services, we aim to provide support and resources to children, young people, and their families affected by trauma and other adverse childhood experiences. R U OK? Day is all about checking in and having open conversations about mental health with others, but it doesn't stop there; it encourages us to have these conversations year-round. You don't have to be an expert or have experienced what someone else is going through, being ready and willing to listen and learn is the most important element when having these conversations. Let's break the stigma around mental health and show one another that we care this R U OK? day. #RUOKDay24 #MentalHealthMatters #ChildProtection #ParkervilleCYC

Our #ConflictCoaching service has been used to support #victims of #ASB. It provides tailored support to people when they are struggling with the impact of ASB & helps them develop practical coping strategies #SolutionTalk #ASBAwarenessWeek
#ASBAwarenessWeek: Today is Victims' Day #AntiSocialBehaviour can devastate the lives of victims and ruin communities. Almost 1 in 7 people say #ASB has impacted on their mental health. Despite this, victims of ASB are NOT guaranteed support to help them cope. We're working hard to change this. See: https://lnkd.in/e3FJ_zEf

For #SuicidePreventionMonth, we asked Destinie Hernandez, Rehab Specialist in our PIER program, to help us raise awareness of some warning signs. Destinie, along with the other incredible specialists in our PIER program, works with teens and young adults (ages 12-25) who are experiencing psychosis-related symptoms. If you identify any of these warning signs in a loved one, especially a child or teen, the best thing would be to create a conversation around the symptoms; let them know what you're observing and why it's concerning. Reach out to teachers or doctors for referrals to mental health services so that they can start supporting the individual and the family. If the symptoms escalate and the individual is in crisis, they can contact the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988. If the individual is already in therapy but you’re noticing psychotic symptoms, they can contact pier@thewholechild.org for a referral. #thewholechild #suicideprevention #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #suicidewarningsigns #warningsigns #whittier #downey #losangeles #santafesprings

Did you know? 🤔 Children involved with Children’s Services are more likely to be rejected from specialist mental health services. Surprising? A report by Cambridge University and the National Children’s Bureau (Aug 2024) reveals that children most in need are often turned away due to instability in their situation. At Biscoes, our dedicated team is here to support and represent carers and guardians of children facing scrutiny from Children’s Services. As we approach World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, with the theme 🔥Change the Narrative,🔥 it is crucial to rethink how we address suicide, especially in countries like Tanzania where it remains a criminal offense. Criminalizing suicide only deepens stigma and prevents people in crisis from seeking help. Suicide is a mental health issue, not a crime. Decriminalizing it is the first step toward building a compassionate mental health system that focuses on healing rather than punishment. By changing this narrative, we can create an environment where those struggling feel safe to reach out for the care they need. Let’s advocate for decriminalization and save lives through empathy and support. #changethenarrative #suicideispreventable #suicidepreventionday #september10 #nohealthwithoutmentalhealth

🚨 Heartbreaking Reality: Children at risk of suicide are being turned away from mental health services due to chronic oversubscription. A recent report shows 32,000 children have been waiting over two years for help, with many receiving no interim support. Severe funding cuts mean even suicidal children are often refused help, overwhelming schools and GPs. We must urgently address this crisis. Every child deserves immediate mental health support. KidsAid offers long-term support for high-level needs. Last year, our average wait time was just 6 weeks. If you or someone you know needs urgent support, contact us at info@kidsaid.org.uk or visit our website www.kidsaid.org.uk.
