Did you know that proper waste sorting and collection can significantly reduce the cost and effort of waste management? 🌿 When we separate our waste correctly, we make it easier for recycling facilities to process materials, reduce contamination, and increase recycling rates. Here are some simple tips to get started: 1. Separate at Source: Keep recyclables, organic waste, and general waste in different bins. 2. Clean and Dry: Ensure recyclables like plastic bottles and cans are clean and dry before disposal. 3. Know Your Waste: Familiarize yourself with what can and cannot be recycled in your area. Small steps early on contribute towards a greener Lusaka. Let's make a difference together, join our efforts, and share your waste sorting and collection tips with us in the comments. #WasteSegregationTips #Sustainability #CommunityEngagement For more information on this campaign and how you can help us spears the message, read our one pager : https://lnkd.in/eXKu5tTa Acknowledgements EU Africa RISE (Reform for Investment and Sustainable Economies)Green Earth Solutions Zambia BlackForest Solutions GmbH GreenForest Solutions GmbH Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia University Of Lusaka With the participation of: Mihaela Balan Sebastian Frisch Emmanuel Barreto Victor matokwani Neirin Jones mwansa Matokwani

Last week in Kisumu, I joined youth clubs for engaging sessions on waste management, focusing on the value of plastic waste, organic waste, and glass waste. We explored how each type of waste, when managed sustainably, can become a resource, proving that Waste is Wealth. From recycling plastics to composting organic materials and reusing glass, these practices are essential for environmental protection and building a greener future. Did you know that Africa's urban population is growing rapidly, leading to increased waste generation.By 2050, it's estimated that 516 million tons of waste will be generated annually, a threefold increase from 2016. Continuous engagements with Waste pickers and Site Collectors for better prices and have more deliveries per day have enabled us to collect more plastic waste for recycling. This week alone we estimate an increase of waste collected by 3-5 tonnes. The impact we have so far seen on the environment and the people we have hired gives us the motivation to continue improving our recycling numbers. The "africa aid project network" takes its first step into The Gambia. Our new partner is making an important contribution to the disposal and treatment of plastic waste. We wish them good co-operation and much success. Plastics Recycling Gambia Ltd. buys plastic waste from the homes of local residents, informal waste collectors and established businesses such as hotels, bottling plants, waste collectors, landfills and sets up regional collection centres in the largest cities in each region. Plastic is collected weekly from these 25 or so collection points and plastic sorting begins at the central project facility. In addition, Plastic Recycling Gambia also endeavours to carry out monthly river clean-ups by working with local boatmen to collect the plastic that has become entangled in the roots of the mangroves. Once collected, the plastic is sorted by colour, type and quality and the residual waste is removed. The clean and sorted plastic is ground and packed into 25kg bags and sold to plastic manufacturers in The Gambia and the sub-region. 🌍 Did you know that 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced to date, with 60% of it ending up in landfills or our natural environment? Shockingly, less than 10% of all plastic waste ever generated has been recycled. At TakaNiAjira Foundation, we’re turning the tide on plastic waste by empowering waste pickers with the resources they need to succeed. Through innovative digital tools like #ZaidiApp and the facilitation of the formation of waste picker Community Based Organizations (CBOs), we’re equipping them to lead the charge in sustainable waste management across Tanzania. The Democratic Republic of Congo generates over 500,000 tons of plastic waste annually, and less than 10% of that is recycled. This waste not only pollutes the environment but also contributes to a growing crisis, while the country faces an estimated housing deficit of over 4 million homes, leaving millions of families in substandard living conditions. Add to that an unemployment rate of 44% particularly affecting women and youth and it's clear that something must change. Through our initiatives we’re responding to these challenges with action. Here's what we're doing to turn these obstacles into opportunities: 📢 Raising Awareness: Across the #DRC, we’ve been engaging communities to educate them about the effects of plastic pollution and show them how this waste can be transformed into something valuable. People are beginning to see plastic waste in a whole new light as a resource for change. ♻️ Plastic Waste Collection: With the help of local women, youth, and persons with disabilities, we’ve launched extensive plastic waste collection efforts. Not only are we clearing harmful waste from the environment, but we're empowering communities to take part in shaping their future. 🏗️ Training & Eco-Bricks: Our team has started training local populations to repurpose plastic waste into eco-bricks a sustainable and durable building material. These eco-bricks are at the heart of our construction efforts and are key to creating affordable, eco-friendly homes. 🏡 Building Empowerment Centers: But these homes are more than just shelters they will serve as empowerment centers, where locals will be trained in social enterprenueship, from waste management to eco-friendly business ventures. It’s about giving people the tools to turn waste into wealth, building stronger communities from the ground up. With the challenges of plastic waste, housing shortages, and unemployment weighing heavily on the DRC, Upcycle Africa is working to create solutions that go beyond the surface. We’re cleaning the environment, empowering individuals, and building sustainable futures—all through the power of recycling. Join us as we continue to drive this transformation. Together, we’re not just solving problems we’re building a greener, more empowered Congo! 💚🏡 #UpcycleAfrica #PlasticWasteSolutions #EcoBricks #EntrepreneurshipForChange #HousingForAll #GreenDRC #TurningWasteIntoWealth

3moThe waste plastic take our living space anywhere. We will not have stand up space if we do not find way to clean it. So how to treat these big amount plastic. Only the way is pyrolysis. and big capacity treat is continuous pyrolysis technology. What we can get from waste plastic after pyrolysis. 1.Pyrolysis Oil 40-90% can make Diesel gasoline. 2.Carbon black: can be fuel as coal. 3.Pyrolysis gas. simialr the nature gas.
