What do rugby and business have in common? 🏉
𝘼 𝙡𝙤𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠. 👇
Pierre doesn’t just talk about leadership, he lives it.
On the rugby field.
In the boardroom.
With 20 years as a professional rugby player and his role as a Business Manager at ABYLSEN, Pierre’s story is proof that the values of sport can transform careers.
“𝑅𝑢𝑔𝑏𝑦 𝑡𝑎𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑚𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝑒𝑎𝑚𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘, 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑝𝑢𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑦𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑟𝑜𝑤. 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑔𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑚𝑦 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑎𝑡 𝐴𝐵𝑌𝐿𝑆𝐸𝑁.”
How does he make it work?
1️⃣ 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: From 6 AM training sessions to client strategy calls.
2️⃣ 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭: Building connections through after-work rugby events.
3️⃣ 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Guiding consulting teams like a true captain.
And here’s the kicker:
Abylsen empowers Pierre to thrive in both arenas.
Because when passion meets flexibility, success follows.
What about you?
Do you think lessons from sport can translate into business success? Let’s discuss below! 👇
"𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭"
At a recent leadership conference, I had the pleasure of listening to James Michael Lafferty, Olympic Coach & Corporate Leader . He spoke about what sets "𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬" apart from "𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬"!! Amongst the several golden nuggets of wisdom that James shared, what stuck with me is the example of the legendary 𝑬𝒅𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒍𝒚𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒄 𝑯𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒓 and it prompted me to research more about Edwin.
In today's VUCA and BANI world, we constantly seek inspiration and guidance from exemplary figures who embody dedication, resilience, and excellence. Edwin's journey offers profound lessons that are incredibly relevant.
1. 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚
Edwin Moses' remarkable winning streak of 122 consecutive races over nearly a decade is a testament to his unwavering discipline and consistency. In our industry, maintaining high standards and delivering exceptional service consistently are key to earning our customers' trust and loyalty.
2. 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒅𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚
Edwin was known for his innovative training methods and techniques, which gave him a competitive edge, for example, having studied mechanical engineering, he literally changed the game by applying some of those principles to increase his speed across the track by reducing the number of strides between each hurdle from 15 to 13 to 12 and alternating his legs in between to jump each hurdle. Similarly, in the fast-paced world of a consumer business, embracing innovation and being adaptable to changing trends and customer preferences helps us differentiate but continuous innovation is what keeps us ahead.
3. 𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔
Despite numerous challenges and setbacks, Edwin's perseverance never wavered. His ability to stay focused and overcome obstacles is a powerful reminder that resilience is essential. Whether it's navigating supply chain disruptions or adapting to new regulations, our perseverance ensures our success in the consumer sector.
4. 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚
Beyond his athletic achievements, Edwin has been a leader in advocating for fairness and integrity in sports. As leaders, we must champion ethical practices and create an environment where every team member feels valued and empowered.
Please feel free to share your learnings and impressions about Edwin Moses in the comments!

Do you want to live a big, bold life?
If you want this kind of life you need audacious goals. The kind of goals that Kelly Conway describes as “kind of embarrassing to say out loud.”
I found Kelly’s comment so instructive.
Articulating audacious goals has oddly become some act met with stigma or shame. As if being irrationally ambitious is threatening, delusional, or self-centered. Better to fit in, think small, settle, and live just an ordinary life.
Taken to the extreme, this is a sad commentary on what it means to be an American. I thought what it means to be an American is to aspire. To believe in possibility. To dream.
A place like Western Michigan University is a place where changing this attitude can produce outsized returns for our country. Let’s be honest, this is Western, a regional school. It’s not Michigan. It’s not Notre Dame. It’s not Harvard.
Regional universities often suffer from self-doubt, an inferiority complex, and a feeling of being “a back up school.” Perspectives like this breed a culture where audacious goals face headwinds. The upside is regional universities are settings with outsized opportunity to unleash potential in American society.
What inspires me today about my work at WMU is creating spaces where expressions and acts of professional ambition are seen as virtuous.
Become a CEO? Go to Wall Street from Western Michigan University? Jump out of plane? Let’s get after it and make it happen.
I have discovered that central to creating these spaces is courage. By their nature, audacious goals have high risk of failure. Whether it’s talking about them, or actually pursing them, audacious goals require a toughness, a willingness to be vulnerable, and a quasi religious leap of faith.
In Leadership and Business Strategy at WMU Haworth I am learning so much about creating a culture that empowers courage and makes it infectious. Core to this culture of courage is wellness, authentic and meaningful relationships, public displays of courage, public appreciation of couage, and role modeling.
It has been amazing to watch Megan Hause as President of LBS continue to nurture this part of our program. Jumping out of a plane has long been discussed in LBS but had never been seen. This semesters group made it a reality.
Shoutout to Edward Montgomery for his support and belief in our program. We have even bigger things to come.
Get After It!
We’re honored to support our amazing Western Michigan University Broncos at the Center for Principled Leadership and Business Strategy’s Registered Student Organization skydiving event!

At All Blacks Performance Labs, we pride ourselves on delivering high-performance insights from diverse industries and regions. Our recent three-day engagement in Montpellier, France with ALTRAD’s global leadership team exemplified this.
Altrad, the principal sponsor of all our teams in Black, and a global enterprise of 65,000 employees across various sectors from scaffolding to energy, provided a rich learning environment.
This session, led by our executive coach, Simon Curran, focused on high-performance mindsets, introducing a compelling model: Performance = Potential – Distractions. A key takeaway was managing the internal voices that affect our performance—the practical and encouraging 'Coach' versus the punishing and critical 'Critic', terms powerfully coined by author Ethan Kross.
Understanding and mastering these voices can be the turning point from merely settling to achieving the remarkable, regardless of whether you're a novice or a top-tier professional. The discipline to develop and implement strategies to manage these distractions is crucial.
Our workshop offered practical tools used by the world's elite performers, earning high praise from Altrad Co-CEO, Ran Oren, who described the All Blacks Performance Labs as "the best team training I have done anywhere in the world."

🚀 From Student to Trainers – A Full Circle Moment 🚀
One of my greatest passions has always been developing strong teams. Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege to work with incredible companies in the form, shoring, and scaffolding industry, where the right values and leadership cultures empowered me to create and lead high-performing teams.
But today’s post isn’t just about the milestones—it’s about reflecting on the journey.
It’s been an incredible transformation from being a student in our sales training program 10 years ago to now standing side-by-side with these talented professionals as a mentor and coach. What I’ve realized is that true success doesn’t come from just giving answers—it comes from guiding others to build their own path.
I see my role as helping people develop the skills and confidence they need to achieve their goals. The real difference-makers are those willing to learn, grow, and take ownership of their journey. Seeing people's commitment to becoming the best versions of themselves is the most fulfilling reward. 🙌

🚀 From Students to Trainers – A 10-Year Transformation 🚀
It’s incredible to witness the growth of Marcelo Fram Zóboli, Jon Washburn, and Andy Hodges. 10 years ago, they were students in our sales training program. Now, they’ve returned as trainers. A special thanks to Dietmar Wagner, affectionately known as “Bubba,” for his continued leadership and expertise over the years—along with his notably longer beard!
💛 We're proud of their journey and grateful for the knowledge they all bring to the team!

May was officially the highest gross-selling month in the history of WanderOn!
This milestone isn't just a number; it shows the hard work and dedication of our entire team.
We celebrated this achievement in our bi-monthly town hall.
A tradition where we not only review our highs and lows but also take the time to recognize and appreciate the efforts behind our success.
Every team, from operations to customer service, played a crucial role, and this was our moment to say a huge thank you.
There are high and low gross selling months, but the feedback, credits, and acknowledgments never go unnoticed in this place.
This was the month for celebration, and acknowledging the contribution of different teams.
One person who can start an idea, build it, and make it bigger is the people with the same vision and energy coming together.
As we celebrate, we are also setting our sights on new goals, driven by the feedback and insights we gather along the way.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey.
