🍃🍃Last week we had a particularly interesting session in which Julia Rawlins (ICLEI Europe), Maria João Rodrigues, Elena Simion (Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding - UEFISCDI) and Tarek El Azzouzi talked about climate platforms, their strategy and services, as well as the collaboration between different countries at the European level. Here are some of the ideas that were raised: 🎙️Maria João Rodrigues: “The mission call was a surprise for everyone. Although everything is happening at different speeds in different parts of Europe, different experiences, formats and approaches can be shared. There is room for some standardisation and even some support that is uniform for all these platforms. There is room for organisation and the European Commission should play an important role in this”. 🎙️Tarek El Azzouzi: I think that having a joint vision is absolutely necessary to work in the same direction and avoid parallel discussions. It is important to create that space for collaboration and debate is very welcome. 🎙️Julia Rawlins: It is essential to be flexible and adapt to the environment. The context is very different between member states, cities are of different sizes and geographical areas vary a lot. Our aim is to maintain multi-level governance and to work at the same time in all sectors. 🎙️ Elena Simion: At the moment, our main target is the national authorities. However, I know that in some countries they are already working with the private sector, holding some kind of town hall meetings. And they have the additional support of the net zero cities, who will act as an official platform and work with us in all capacities to move the dialogue forward. Thank you very much to all of them for participating in this inspiring session. #Startups #UPM #growth #sustainability #investment #cleantech #cleancities #smartcities ClimAccelerator Climate-KIC EIT Climate-KIC Spain Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

🌐The United Nations General Assembly designated October 31st as World Cities Day. The Day is expected to greatly promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities addressing challenges of urbanization and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world. 📢 This year's theme is based on ‘’Youth Leading Climate and Local Action for Cities’’ which is expected to raise awareness on these two main aspects. Focusing on the second one, this @ClimAccelerator programme is working on in order to boost and catalyse the integration of cutting edge solutions through the innovation provided by the startups. Unfortunately, our society faces a challenging era where collaboration is key in order to mitigate the climate actions we are suffering. However, the fight against climate change doesn’t finish today. It requires the integration of sustainable solutions within the day-to-day actions, more legislation towards different sectors and the real implication from the whole society. Let’s work all together! ClimAccelerator Climate-KIC EIT Climate-KIC Spain Universidad Politécnica de Madrid #CleanCities #Startups #Innovation #ClimateChange #SustainableFuture #LetsWorkTogether

👉Start-up ↔️ match ↔️ City 👈 I strongly believe in the combined power and impact of innovation from entrepreneurship and start-ups in solving our urban challenges. 🏋♀️ Therefore, I am very humbled to have the privilege of mentoring the two amazing winning teams from EU Sparks for Climate Hackathon of the Germany -Austria Event, further accompanying them at the European final, where both teams impressively made it to the top ten across Europe. This achievement marks just the beginning of what I’m sure will be a successful journey for both them! 🏆 Layered City from Vienna integrates citizens and data in a unique way: "Citizen Mapping as a Practice of City-Making." https://lnkd.in/erYZZkZw The team behind #GreenCoolInnovators scales heat pumps to bring cooling through existing heating networks to homes and businesses. 🚀 A key part of my work as an expert in #urbaninnovation and ecosystems is business development and matchmaking for startups and companies, in collaboration with partners like UnternehmerTUM MakerSpace GmbH or the Innovationsmotor Ulm. The challenge for cities is to create space and processes for these partners, while startups need to adapt their solutions to a complex urban environment and often fail to meet the right contacts. 🙌 Interested in addressing this great potential and exciting business field? 🌟 Today we are celebrating 20 years of engagement and support with 13 High-Impact Ventures! 🎉 Today marks the 20th anniversary of the EU's 2004 expansion, where we welcomed Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia to our Union greatly enriching our diversity. They were followed two years later by Romania and Bulgaria, and Croatia in 2013. Together, these EU Member States which joined the EU from 2004, are known as the EU-13 Member States. The EIT as part of #HorizonEurope has been pivotal in boosting innovation and competitiveness across these states. Recognizing regional disparities in innovation, the EIT launched the Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) in 2014 to provide tailored support, fostering innovation across Europe. 🤝 The EIT RIS connects innovators, researchers, and partners to boost regional innovation performance. Through capacity building and tailored support, it empowers local ecosystems to innovate and align with EU objectives. 🔍 Looking towards the future, the EIT plans to expand its network of RIS Hubs, ensuring its presence in every eligible country by 2025. These Hubs will serve as local engagement points, providing access to EIT activities and expertise. 💼 In 2021-2022, the EU-13 Member States attracted 13 per cent of the total EIT Grant, showcasing exceptional success within the EIT framework. Innovators from these countries are driving sustainable solutions and attracting investment. 🌍 As we celebrate 20 years since the 2004 enlargement, the EIT highlights the contributions of these countries to Europe's innovation landscape. Check out all the 13 ventures from the EU-13, showcasing the profound impact of the EIT Community on their development! CATAL1.5°T accelerator update: our Latin American finalists are hard at work, with the first milestones in sight. 👀 🚀 We’re approaching the first period for the 10 start-ups in our accelerator programme to report their progress on milestones and funding usage, including the progress on their impact action plan as well as their environmental and social management plans. 🏁 The first successfully completed milestone of our programme: the kick-off bootcamp and the first individual training sessions. All start-ups have participated in several in-person training sessions, including one workshop on Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). This serves as the foundation for their current revision and finalisation of their OKRs and milestone pathways. 🧭 After their online training sessions, group mentoring sessions, and 1-on-1 mentoring sessions with each start-up success mentor, some of the young companies have already booked an on-demand mentoring session to prepare for the demo days on 17-19 September. There is much to learn and gain at CATAL1.5°T! 🤝 We’re excited to accompany these innovative climate tech experts on their way to success: Biotermica Innovación, Cirkula, Ento Piruw, GALAXY PACK, microTERRA, Rematech® México, Satellites on Fire, Smart internal mobility, Sustainable Food Group, and Vexxel. 💥 Stay tuned to learn about these upcoming companies and their innovative solutions. #CatalyseClimateTech #ClimateTech #Innovation Green Climate Fund Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) CATAL1.5°T LATAM Climate-KIC Tecnológico de Monterrey Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ México GIZ ConoSur (Argentina, Chile, Perú) GIZ Centroamérica
