✨ As 2024 comes to an end, we reflect on the seeds of hope sown across Europe through the Seed2Scale project we started six months ago. Together with our 5 National Competence Centers for Social Innovation (in Croatia, Greece, Italy, Romania and Slovenia), we’ve laid the foundation for ecosystems that empower communities, foster collaboration, and inspire meaningful change. 🌱This holiday season, let’s celebrate the progress we’ve made: from nurturing pilot projects to strengthening partnerships with 26 beneficiaries and innovators, each contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable future. 🙏 Looking ahead to 2025, our ambition is to scale the gift of giving by consolidating the efforts of our National Competence Centers. 🍃🍃Last week we had a particularly interesting session in which Julia Rawlins (ICLEI Europe), Maria João Rodrigues,  Elena Simion (Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding - UEFISCDI) and Tarek El Azzouzi talked about climate platforms, their strategy and services, as well as the collaboration between different countries at the European level. Here are some of the ideas that were raised: 🎙️Maria João Rodrigues: “The mission call was a surprise for everyone. Although everything is happening at different speeds in different parts of Europe, different experiences, formats and approaches can be shared. There is room for some standardisation and even some support that is uniform for all these platforms. There is room for organisation and the European Commission should play an important role in this”. 🎙️Tarek El Azzouzi: I think that having a joint vision is absolutely necessary to work in the same direction and avoid parallel discussions. It is important to create that space for collaboration and debate is very welcome. 🎙️Julia Rawlins: It is essential to be flexible and adapt to the environment. The context is very different between member states, cities are of different sizes and geographical areas vary a lot. Our aim is to maintain multi-level governance and to work at the same time in all sectors. 🎙️ Elena Simion: At the moment, our main target is the national authorities. However, I know that in some countries they are already working with the private sector, holding some kind of town hall meetings. And they have the additional support of the net zero cities, who will act as an official platform and work with us in all capacities to move the dialogue forward. 🌟 Today we are celebrating 20 years of engagement and support with 13 High-Impact Ventures! 🎉 Today marks the 20th anniversary of the EU's 2004 expansion, where we welcomed Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia to our Union greatly enriching our diversity. They were followed two years later by Romania and Bulgaria, and Croatia in 2013. Together, these EU Member States which joined the EU from 2004, are known as the EU-13 Member States. The EIT as part of #HorizonEurope has been pivotal in boosting innovation and competitiveness across these states. Recognizing regional disparities in innovation, the EIT launched the Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) in 2014 to provide tailored support, fostering innovation across Europe. 🤝 The EIT RIS connects innovators, researchers, and partners to boost regional innovation performance. Through capacity building and tailored support, it empowers local ecosystems to innovate and align with EU objectives. 🔍 Looking towards the future, the EIT plans to expand its network of RIS Hubs, ensuring its presence in every eligible country by 2025. These Hubs will serve as local engagement points, providing access to EIT activities and expertise. 💼 In 2021-2022, the EU-13 Member States attracted 13 per cent of the total EIT Grant, showcasing exceptional success within the EIT framework. Innovators from these countries are driving sustainable solutions and attracting investment. 🌍 As we celebrate 20 years since the 2004 enlargement, the EIT highlights the contributions of these countries to Europe's innovation landscape. International Development Norway Leads the Way in Norway-Croatia Collaboration with ESCO PROJECT (ECOSYSTEM COLIDE) in the Business Development and Innovation Croatia Programme by EEA and Norway Grants, focusing on Digital and Green Transitions. This initiative is driving both technological and social innovation to foster a more sustainable future, especially in the Blue Economy to advancing sustainable local development through international cooperation, supporting businesses in adopting innovative solutions for a greener tomorrow. 💡 Today, after our last workshop on 25th November, the journey continued with an exciting Creativity-Driven Innovation Transfer Activity! This event led by IRI Centar showcased an engaging online presentation on integrating the creative ecosystem into green innovation value chains. Participants, including Business Support Organizations from the technology startup ecosystem, gained invaluable insights into the power of creativity to boost sustainable innovation. 🚀🌍 We’re founding members of the NEW Global Network of Accelerators 🌍🚀   Today, we're thrilled to share that CISL’s Canopy is a founding member in the launch of a groundbreaking Global Network of Accelerators, powered by The Earthshot Prize and Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation at Imperial College London. Launched during Earthshot Week 2024 in Cape Town, this ambitious initiative brings together 17 initial members across five continents to fast-track climate solutions where they’re needed most.   This network is a powerful platform to support climate innovators, offering them access to expertise, resources, funding, and markets. By connecting accelerators, incubators, and supporters globally, ensuring that these innovators have the tools to scale quickly, maximise impact, and make real change. 🌱⚙️   Through this network, we aim to: 🌐 Increase visibility across the global climate innovation ecosystem 📈 Transform access to resources, markets, and capital, especially in emerging regions 🤝 Break down silos and provide essential local context   CISL will be represented at these exciting events by our Canopy colleague Jie Zhou, as well as CISL Africa Director Richard Calland and Programme Manager Sibusiso Nkomo. 🌍 We’ve proudly launched the Ninety One Accelerator in partnership with The Earthshot Prize expressing our further commitment to driving climate-related solutions, and alignment with the five earthshots - key challenges The Earthshot Prize identifies as universal goals for 2030. In so doing, Ninety One also becomes a member of the Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation Accelerator Network, launched in Cape Town yesterday. Undaunted, a partnership between Imperial College London and The Royal Institution, aims to speed 10,000 eco-innovations to scale in this decade. The new global network, with 17 initial members, will foster collaboration between accelerators, incubators and other organisations around the world as they support and accelerate early-stage start-ups to tackle the most pressing environmental challenges facing the world. The Ninety One Accelerator will support innovative young Earthshot solutions which are primarily South Africa-focused with global ambitions, so that they are investment ready and better positioned to scale their businesses. #EarthshotPrize #climatechange #sustainableinvesting

🌱 How is Oslo contributing to the global and Norway's green shift? Data and new initiatives show that climate technology and political leadership are pushing the agenda. 📈 Almost 200 startups with climate solutions are based in the Oslo region (Dealroom) 🏗 The City of Oslo's #ClimateBudget, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 has been replicated in places like New York City Oslo kommune Klimaetaten i Oslo kommune 📍 Hovinbyen Sirkulære Oslo - Norway's new innovation district is dedicated to sustainability and circular economy solutions 🌎 Nordics is a leading impact region in the world (new report coming in a few days, so stay tuned) 💘 And of course, Oslo is open to include even more startups, investors, techies and creatives. 📅 Next week, Oslo Business Region will host a side-event to the Nordic climate tech investment conference, The Drop in Malmø, together with our partners ArcTern Ventures, Sandwater and Ferd Impact Investing. 100 investors have signed up and the event is full, which shows that there is a growing interests in Norwegian climate technology startups and scaleups. 💌 To the investors in my network attending The Drop, reach out to my colleagues Tonje Ørnholt and Tom Miskin, if you're interested in connections in the Norwegian startup and tech ecosystem.
