The elastic is gone... but someone decided that it's still good enough for Africa? I have looked at this post a few times and everytime it makes my blood boil. The disrespect represents more than just the donation of used underwear to the poor, it shows a complete ignorance towards marginalized communities. That because someone is poor, they won't know better. Because someone is poor, they will be, and should be thankful for whatever they get. Because it was made by a poor artisans, it should be cheap... It's not just panties... it's expired food... broken toys.... money to projects that does more harm than good. Incomplete (or pointless) Mandela day projects. Donating to good projects, but refusing to contribute towards administrative and overhead costs. That's just like a donating a panty without an elastic... pretty useless. Does the donation make the giver feel good and/or solve a problem for them (like a few points on a scorecard).. or does it actually solve a problem for the receiver? Let's stop accepting panties without elastics....

This applies to the leather industry as well. At Onilu Studios, we primarily use off-cut leathers sourced from manufacturers abroad. However, when dealing with these bail goods, we often don’t have control over the types or quality of leather we receive, leaving us to work with what we’re given. This lack of choice not only limits our creative flexibility but also leads to increased waste, as not all materials can be fully utilized. Additionally, it amplifies financial risks, as we may invest in shipments that contain subpar or unusable materials, ultimately affecting both productivity and profitability.

From the sea to clothing? Yes, there's more life in algae and discarded fishing nets! CeNTI's research and technology are once again highlighted on RDP Internacional podcast "Isto faz-se por cá", now with the Textile Vertical developments within the scope of PBA - Blue Bioeconomy Pact Project. What is the challenge? Reduce the environmental impact of Textile Industry by integrating algae and unused fishing nets into clothing and footwear production and using microalgae in the treatment of effluents from textile processes. The Centre is part of the national consortium of this Mobilising Agenda, which is innovating the Portuguese industries through the sustainable use of marine bioresources to increase the added value and differentiation of products and processes. Do you know where our Social Recycling Shipyard will be built? 📍 #GuanabaraBay is the most important estuarine system of Rio de Janeiro state, located in the second most important metropolitan region in Brazil. 💠Its drainage basin has approximately 4,000km2 and comprises 16 municipalities, 7 main rivers, as well as 51 minor rivers and canals. 💹The basin area encompasses 10 million inhabitants, with intense urban and industrial development, corresponding to 80% of the population of the state of Rio de Janeiro. 🐠 Around the Guanabara Bay, there are more than 15 fishermen colonies, and associations and at least 32 landing points. There are estimates ranging from 5000 to 18,000 registered/unregistered fishermen. 🚯 Currently, 90 tons/day of waste enter the Guanabara Bay due to mismanagement and lack of efficient waste collection and treatment systems in the surrounding communities. Beyond the above-mentioned arguments, the Guanabara Bay is key to Rio de Janeiro´s economic development and requires close attention in terms of environmental measures! "Kaisa the whale was happy. She was living a comfortable whale life in the Mediterranean. Kaisa had also recently found a happy partner. And so a new generation of sperm whales had begun. But suddenly, Kaisa began to feel sick. So badly that she passed away. Kaisa washed up breathless on a beach in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. 22 kilos of plastic waste were found in the whale's stomach. Mostly disposable take-away packging. And a foetus in a state of decomposition." Unfortunately this is a true story.
