The theme for #WorldConsumerRightsDay, "A just transition to sustainable lifestyles," comes at a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change 🌍 In 2025, we will be marking five years until the target date for the Sustainable Development Goals. Many of these goals, particularly those related to #climateaction and #sustainableconsumption, are off-track. Our theme not only calls for fundamental shifts in how we consume, but it ensures that these changes 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬. 🔖 Crest Impact Monthly Newsletter 🏷 November Issue 3 Have you subscribed to Crest Impact's monthly newsletter? You should! This month, I will take you on an ethical safari (this word simply means trip/journey) to Africa where you will learn sustainable ways to participate in the local tourism and other activities that are normally associated with the continent. The monthly newsletter is released every 5th day of the month at a subscription fee of €5 per month or €50 per year. If you are new to my page and lifestyle, I will introduce myself. I am a Kenyan activist with Finnish nationality and working as an educator and consultant in the following areas: ⭕ Anti-racism ⭕ Social Impact ⭕ Anti-Neocolonialism ⭕ Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Most of my free intellectual labour through my content/writing is moving away from this digital plantation field. I pay my bills every month, just like white consultants and unfortunately, likes and comments alone on social media are not an acceptable form of payment with my landlord, local supermarkets, healthcare centre and other business entities. Admiration and observation of struggling Africans is a concerning, unethical, non-sustainable, dangerous and demeaning colonial pastime which is normally done in person, through research, online and via media consumption. This behaviour will not suffice to move us forward from local and global structural racism to racial equity as long as anti-Blackness and hierarchies of white supremacy exist. Pay African women for our intellectual labour like you do everyone else. We are the experts of our experiences and writers of our stories. Remember to subscribe to my YouTube page to stay updated on our live events and recordings including this month's upcoming event with leaders in the African diaspora. I will keep you updated on this and other projects. 🗞 Newsletter subscription here: https://lnkd.in/dM4-EeW4 📸 YouTube subscription here: https://lnkd.in/dfpFjfZf #AntiRacism #SocialImpact #AntiNeocolonialism #DiversityEquityInclusion

At a pivotal moment for international organisations, I wanted to share insights from a thought-provoking interview with Oxfam International Executive Director Amitabh Behar m. He spoke candidly about the existential challenges we face at Oxfam and beyond—challenges that force us to rethink our role and mission. Amitabh emphasised that the way forward is not simply through organisational growth but through courageously living our values of decolonisation, equity and justice. We must take risks, transform our approaches and build new solidarities to work for a just and feminist future. Civil society has a historic role to play in these turbulent times. It's time to defend our founding ideals and actively promote an alternative vision that reflects the realities of our world today. Let's reimagine how we organise ourselves and strive for a world that is truly fair, equal and sustainable. #Leadership #SocialJustice #Oxfam #CivilSociety #Feminism #ChangeMakers
Interviewer: What are the biggest challenges facing international (humanitarian, development and campaigning) organizations such as Oxfam. How do you suppose to lead Oxfam through these challenges in order to remain relevant and impactful? Amitabh Behar: The challenges faced by international organisations, are extremely fundamental and existential. It ranges from the challenge of relevance to even deeper questions of role and mission. Amidst this, the biggest challenge is the inability to transform itself, despite the recognition that the current path leads to diminishing and eroding returns. This is moment of reckoning for international organizations like ours. We need to make deeply fundamental choices to remain relevant, credible and impactful. These choices are about living our values of decolonisation, feminist principles, equity and courage. These are about recognizing that working towards just redistribution of power cannot be achieved through frameworks of risk aversion/management but enhancing our risk appetites to build power to counter injustices and indignity all around us. It means choices, which can be tough and will not be about organisational growth and size, but about the mission and struggle for equality and justice. It essentially means a reset, reboot for all these organisations to focus on achieving justice in a world which has changed dramatically in the last decade, where old way of working are becoming futile and push these large organizations in chase of their own tails. This is a moment of reimagining how civil society is organised, going beyond the logos and egos (and brands) by building new solidarities, reflecting the realities of contemporary world, and most importantly reinvigorating our dreams, ideals along with new dreams of a just, fair, equal, and sustainable world. This is a moment when we are seeing massive threats to the founding ideals of freedom, equality, fraternity and justice. Civil society needs to play a decisively historic role in this struggle, but we as international organizations need to recognise and with courage (and love and compassion) embrace this new role of being the frontline defenders of these normative ideals but go beyond defence in championing and advocating an alternative vision of a just and feminist future.

Feeling down about the future? I find inspiration in a video showcasing how children are actively addressing inequity. Their actions remind me that we, too, have a role to play as adults. Change doesn’t just come from words but from practical, actionable steps. The Norwegian Trade Union's work demonstrates that if children can drive progress, so can we. Let’s embrace a childlike sense of agency and take meaningful action in our own ways. #ChangeMakers #ActionOverWords #Inspiration #Empowerment #SocialImpact #FutureLeaders #EqualityForAll #PositiveChange #YouthActivism #TakeAction #BeTheChange #SocialJustice #ActiveCitizens #CommunityImpact #AgentsOfChange #EquityMatters #TransformativeAction #InspireChange #Leadership #ActionDriven #ProgressiveThinking #PurposeDriven #GlobalImpact #InnovationForGood #SocialAdvocacy #YouthEmpowerment #ImpactfulActions #ChangeThroughAction #TransformTheFuture #ChildlikeWonder
