“Happy” Equal Pay Day everyone. In the UK today is the day that the average working woman effectively stops getting paid. The average salary for working women in the UK is on average £7572 a year lower than the average working man. Depending on which data you look at and how, at the current rate this gap will close between 2044 and 2069. And we are well ahead of the global curve (though only actually 14th globally, with counties like New Zealand, Spain, Namibia and Moldova ahead of us. We need to do better. https://lnkd.in/eCszQsUZ.

🌟 Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK 🌟 This marks the day when, due to the gender pay gap, women effectively stop earning compared to men and work for free for the rest of the year. The UK’s mean gender pay gap is now 11.3%, up from 10.4% last year—reversing a decade-long trend of narrowing the gap. This widening disparity means that on average, every month working women take home £631 less than men. This highlights ongoing challenges, including unequal pay, caregiving responsibilities, and fewer opportunities for women in higher-paying roles. Equal pay is not just a women's issue; it’s an economic and social imperative. Let’s push for policies that close the gap—like salary transparency, better parental leave, and support for caregivers. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. 💼💪 Join the conversation and get involved at https://lnkd.in/eEk6rUCJ . #EqualPayDay #GenderPayGap #JointheMovement

The gender pay gap is widening! Which is why it is important to keep striving for equality. Together we can make a difference and the organisations we are working with at Karren Brady's Women in Business & Tech Expo are making a difference by looking at what women need to be supported in the workplace to thrive and progress, starting with inclusive recruitment and female friendly policies and networks. Creating networks where women can meet and support each other are really important and the partners we are working with such as SheCanCode are doing a fantastic job at this, helping women to stay in their chosen career and level up the gap: https://lnkd.in/epRDyqk7 Well done everyone. 🙌 Together we can make a difference and every little step helps to close the gap. #genderpaygap #inclusiverecruitment #closethegap #womeninleadership #diversity

Refreshing to see some much needed daylight on this issue. This is the first year Australian companies with 100 or more employees have been required by law to publish the gender pay gap between their male and female employees. The gender pay gap is the difference between the median pay of a man and a woman within one company, expressed as a percentage of male earnings. There are some truly breath taking results. I will be fascinated to see next year’s results and whether the embarrassment of having their dirty laundry aired in public prompts organisations to correct what women have always known (or suspected). Looking forward to when NZ companies might be forced to publish their gender pay gaps against a single universal measure instead of all the number fudging that currently goes on.

Today we can confirm that Equal Pay Day 2024 will fall on 20th November. That's earlier than last year. This means that the UK's mean Gender Pay Gap has got worse for the first time since 2013. Equal Pay Day is a national campaign led by the Fawcett Society in the UK. It marks the day in the year when, based on the gender pay gap, women overall in the UK stop being paid compared to men. CEO Jemima Olchawski said, "It’s incredibly alarming to see the mean gender pay gap widen in 2024 and shows that without concerted effort most women won’t see equal pay in our working lifetime. “Today’s data confirms that the Gender Pay Gap increases with age as women take on more and more unpaid care work for children and older people. Tomorrow, at her first Budget, our first female Chancellor in history can right this wrong by investing to finally address the motherhood penalty and set the UK on a path to close the Gender Pay Gap for good. "The draft Employment Rights Bill and commitments to close the gap are important steps but today’s data clearly shows more must urgently be done. Our government must commit to a cross-government strategy to shrink the gender pay gap by 2030 – women cannot wait any longer." Read our explainer here 👇 https://lnkd.in/esbbsW37

Today is Equal Pay Day in Australia - a sobering reminder that we still have work to do to achieve gender pay equity. Let these stats settle in….. • The national gender pay gap currently stands at 13.3% • This means women earn on average $253.50 less per week than men • At the current rate, it will take 26 years to close the gap completely While progress has been made, the fact remains that in 2024, women in Australia are still paid less than men across virtually all industries and occupations. Factors contributing to the gap include: • Discrimination and bias in hiring and pay decisions • Women's disproportionate share of unpaid care work • Industrial and occupational segregation Closing the gender pay gap isn't just about fairness - it's an economic imperative. Paying women fairly would inject billions into our economy and boost productivity. This Equal Pay Day, let's renew our commitment to achieving true pay equity. What steps is your organisation taking to close the gap? #EqualPayDay #GenderPayGap #PayEquity

Incredibly important conversations to have. The gender pay gap means women on average are working FOR FREE until the end of the year. It is November 19th. People are worried about how close Christmas is, we should worry about the amount of unpaid labour women are doing. Speak up. Ensure the women you work with are paid for the VALUE they deliver. Ensure they are acknowledged for the WORK they do. Ensure they are PROMOTED and COMPENSATED for the brilliance they deliver to the workplace. From the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC): The gender pay gap aims to quantify the difference between the average earnings of women and men in the workforce - measured at the level of business, an industry sector or a nation. There are a lot of reasons the gap still exists. Women have higher rates of part-time work, take greater time out of the workforce for caring responsibilities, and do a disproportionate share of unpaid domestic work. Historical discrimination plays a part, as does female-dominated industries and jobs attracting lower wages. #genderpaygap #women #design #paygap #servicedesign #designeducation #leadership #leader #promotion

Today is Equal Pay Day – the date when women effectively stop earning compared to men due to the gender pay gap. Shockingly, this year the UK’s mean gender pay gap has worsened for the first time since 2013, as highlighted by the Fawcett Society. To close this gap for good, we must take decisive action: ➡️ Make flexible working the default in every sector. ➡️ Transform childcare so it’s affordable and accessible for all families. ➡️ End pay discrimination to ensure equal pay for equal work. ➡️ Address intersectional pay gaps that disproportionately impact Black, minoritised, and disabled women. The Fawcett Society reminds us that these changes are critical, and we cannot wait any longer. Let’s work together to build a fairer and more inclusive future 💪💥

This is why at Your Energy Your Way way we’re training women to be electricians and heating engineers. Because the average hairdresser’s wage is £10k less than the average plumber’s. Women, be hairdressers by all means and men too, we all need a good haircut, but don’t assume women can’t do both and block their access to good wages. Today is #EqualPayDay, not a day that should be celebrated. It means that, from today, women in the UK are now working for free for the rest of the year, based on average earnings data. I've been reading a lot about about the Gender Pay Gap recently (more on that in the coming months). There are many factors that contribute to the gap; but mostly it boils down to society still expecting women to be primary care givers and homemakers - regardless of professional status. All UK companies with over 250 employees are required to report gender pay gap statistics annually. Some smaller companies voluntarily report their gender pay gap statistics. But there are an estimated 5m+ businesses in the UK that have less than 250 employees, representing approximately 16m employees. Compared to the 11m people that are employed by businesses with over 250 people. It also excludes self-employed people (with a few small exceptions). So the *actual* gender pay gap could be considerably worse than is being reported. I have not been able to find any analysis on businesses under 250ppl yet, although there is some sample data reporting done by the ONS I believe. Can anyone point me to any research on this? Does it exist?

(Un)happy Equal Pay Day UK! It’s time to down tools ladies (of only it were that easy). Equal Pay Day is the day of the year when women stop earning relative to men due to the gender pay gap. Sadly, frustratingly, unacceptably, the date this year is two days earlier than last year when it fell on 22nd November. This means that, despite years of slow progress to close the UK's mean Gender Pay Gap, it has definitively widened for the first time since 2013. Information is taken from The Fawcett Society who have made this super short and helpful infographic. Gender pay gap for full time employees is 11.3% (can I adjust my tax bill accordingly?????). https://lnkd.in/eAjuUwmA There are many factors that contribute to the pay gap including pay discrimination, women’s unequal share of caring responsibilities, and a failure to promote women in the workplace. I believe we need both a bottom up and a top down approach in organisations paired with policy change. Bottom up - empowering women to believe their own worth and ask for the recognition they deserve which just so happens to be where my coaching programmes are focused (tap me up for more info and take things into your own hands)… We can take concerted action to shift things ‘at the top’ but we also need to take charge of our own lives through education, peer to peer support, male allyship (yay - more on that later with my good friend Tarquin Bennett-Coles 😉) and an unshakeable belief that we deserve better.
