#Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation @Mykhailo Fedorov said that in 2024 Ukraine managed to increase the production of long-range #UAVs tenfold compared to last year. Source: #Fedorov in an interview with Welt Quote: "Most of the drones that attacked Russian oil refineries have a range of 700 to 1,000 kilometres, but now there are models that can fly over 1,000 kilometres." Details: The minister reported that the outcome depends on the progress in drone development. Fedorov predicts that the first prototypes of artificial intelligence drones in small numbers could appear on the battlefield by the end of 2024. However, the official says, it is currently impossible to say who is winning the technological war. The team of engineers succeeded in creating a pretty unique navigation solution that does not require GPS and is able to broadcast for distances of up to 200 km. An important feature of these drones is high technical characteristics and increased resistance to enemy electronic warfare (EW) means, which makes them indispensable assistants in modern conditions. At the final stage of development is the "machine vision" technology, which will allow drones to carry out homing. This will significantly expand the possibilities of using drones. In 2024, compared to 2023, the production capacity of the #Ukrainian drone industry increased 10 times. This is stated in a study of the drone industry by the Kyiv School of Economics and BRAVE1, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. "After mass production was established, the priority shifted to efficiency and the latest technologies. Experts also expect that in the coming years, competition will lead to the consolidation of manufacturers," the statement said. There has also been progress in the creation of air, sea and ground drones and the development of electronic warfare systems. Romania’s Carfil SA and American producer of uncrewed systems, Periscope Aviation, signed a strategic cooperation agreement on 24 May for the joint production of a Romanian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for both the military and civilian sectors. The bilateral agreement covers the design, development, and delivery of UAVs and includes two protocols. The first focuses on the development of the legislative framework and drone production in Romania with local industry partners. The second protocol covers the development of agricultural drones in collaboration with industry partners including agricultural research institutes. According to Romania’s Minister of Economy, Ștefan-Radu Oprea, Romania plans to become a supplier in the global production chains of manufacturers such as Periscope. “[Periscope Aviation] isn’t the only company, but we want them to get to know us better, to see the production capacities we have in Romania, to develop products, [and] to include us in their supply chains.” ******** Separately, Romanian defence companies signed collaboration agreements with foreign suppliers from Europe and South Korea on the sidelines of the Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA) Exhibition, which was held in Bucharest on 22–24 May. Milrem Robotics, MBDA, and Hanwha Aerospace are collaborating with local entities Digital Bit SRL, IAR Brasov, and the INCAS - National Institute for Aerospace Research "Elie Carafoli", respectively. Microwave “Fly Swatter” - static display of a huge high-power #microwave gadget, nicknamed “Fly Swatter” in Chinese media (#CCTV4) last few days. Along with a long-flight-range drone carrier - huge autonomous craft that can unleash hundreds, if not thousands of small #drones in air. It was said that China has been researching using drones in war theater but was not certain if that is the right direction. China joined many nations in UN to ban use of robots in war, but many western countries led by the USA, voted against. Then, Ukraine and the USA gave China the answer in Ukraine-Russia war, and endorsed the direction. Not surprisingly, China being the clear leader in the commercial drone world (DJI) has significant strengths in drone supply-chain, that made natural technologies spillover to military applications. Banning #DJI will be frutile and likely laughing stalk (ie acting on misguided intelligence). Seen in the media, China introduced #J20 and #J35 stealth jets. The agility is amazing; take off within few tens of meters into a near vertical climb! Shown also is Russia’s #SU57 - also amazing agility - demonstrated short vertical take-off and landing. Also shown is China’s attack chopper - highly agile with precision hovers. These planes and choppers show great leaps in flight technologies that most thought only possible in the west. Though not shown in video, the media reported China’s 6th gen #hypersonic war gears, and China’s reusable “#space-shuttle”-like space vehicle that can be long-march launched and dock with Tiangong space-station. Boy, when was the last tech excitements from one show? These are either clear “think thrice” message or Hollywood-style propaganda. Anyway, the air flights cannot be faked, being once part of #avionics world, I am glad that flight control tech has taken some leaps forward. Hope the world use that in peace promoting deterrents.
