As we celebrate National Women's Health Week, let's take a moment to appreciate the critical role that immigrant healthcare workers play in the healthcare industry. From doctors to nurses and other essential staff, these individuals have been instrumental in ensuring that women receive the care they need, regardless of their background. At the same time, it's essential to recognize the importance of a diverse and inclusive healthcare industry that can address the unique needs of women from different backgrounds. Let's continue to support and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare to ensure that all women receive the care they deserve. #NationalWomensHealthWeek #ImmigrantHealthcareWorkers #DiversityandInclusion #WomenInHealthcare #HealthEquity Read more about Upwardly Global’s commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive healthcare system here: https://lnkd.in/g3YMrgqx

🔥 Reflecting on an Inspiring Event! 🔥 This week, HBA's CEO Mary Stutts, MHA and Bill Anderson from Bayer engaged in a powerful discussion on improving women's health outcomes. Their conversation emphasized the critical importance of addressing women's health and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in society and the workplace. Mary Stutts expressed concern about the alarming trend of women leaving the healthcare sector and emphasized the significant gap in investments focused on women's health. Despite living longer, women often experience fewer healthy years than men, underscoring the urgent need for companies and the society to better understand and support women's needs. Bill Anderson highlighted Bayer's role in advancing women's health, demonstrating a commitment to addressing the unique challenges women face from menarche to menopause. Thank you so much to #teamBayer's incredible GROW Business Resource Group and Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) for bringing these two leaders together to discuss allyship, gender equity, and career advancement in healthcare. Are you new to the HBA? It's on organization dedicated to advancing the impact of women in the healthcare industry through networking and professional development. I have had the pleasure to join their programs and events as a participant and a speaker. Do check them out! Let’s walk the talk and keep the momentum going! My question is how can we all contribute to improving women’s health in our workplaces? #WomensHealth #Diversity #Inclusion #Healthcare #HBA #Equity #Empowerment

The International Day of Action for Women's Health falls on May 28th every year. It aims to increase awareness and support for women's health and rights, focusing on prioritizing women's health concerns on the global health agenda. The theme for 2024 highlights the significance of enhancing women's voices in healthcare and policy development. Titled "Our Voices, Our Actions, Our Demand: Uphold Women's Health and Rights Now," it focuses on bridging the existing gaps in women's healthcare services and rights. The goal is to promote a more inclusive and fair healthcare system that meets the distinct needs of women worldwide. Raising Awareness: Drawing attention to significant health concerns impacting women worldwide, especially those that are frequently ignored or stigmatized. By shining a light on these matters, this day promotes discussions and knowledge sharing in the public sphere. Advocacy for Health Rights: This occasion serves as a platform to advocate for women's health rights, highlighting the importance of policies and initiatives that cater to women's unique health requirements and foster gender equality in healthcare. Empowering Women The event centers around women's health, empowering them to proactively manage their well-being. It motivates women to seek knowledge, utilize services, and engage in health-related decision-making. Global Solidarity: By uniting women's health advocates, organizations, and communities worldwide, this event promotes a feeling of global solidarity. This collaborative effort bolsters the campaign for women's health rights. Policy Influence: This day serves as a chance to impact policy on both national and international scales. Advocates seize the moment to push for changes and funding in women's health services, striving to establish a fairer healthcare system. Call to Action On this day, individuals, organisations, and governments are called to: Support women's health initiatives, raise awareness, empower women to take charge of their health, and foster collaboration among stakeholders for comprehensive women's health care. #WomensHealthMatters #EndInequalityPandemic #SRHRisEssential #SunninghillHospital

📣I was honoured to attend the launch of the 'Call to Action' campaign with Women Friendly Leeds this week. 💫A group of women located across Leeds, of all different ages, ethnicities and backgrounds, came together to discuss inequalities for women. The information gathered from these sessions will be fed back to key decision makers in March 2025 for International Women's Day, where we ask leaders to pledge change. 🗣️We held a fascinating discussion on the barriers women face surrounding health, employment, safety, confidence and art. I would love for you to have your say on these topics by taking part in our survey about the barriers and challenges women in Leeds face. (Link at end of post). 🫱🏻🫲🏾I believe that we are all "called to action" and that it is crucial we all play our part to tackle intolerance and inequalities in our local communities. However big or small the difference is we make, we should all strive to be advocates of justice and equality because if we don’t all stand together against intolerance (and leave it to the "activists"), then how will we see change and real transformation? Let us all decide to be activists in our homes, our friendships, our places of work and wider communities! Still interested? Here's some important issues that we delved into during our session: 🏥Health inequalities: why, until last July, was it not required for doctors to take lengthy education in women’s healthcare such as menopause, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea (period pain) and more? Why is there still such a lack of education for women themselves on these areas? 👷♀️Employment inequalities: flexible working seems to be stigmatised. For example, taking time off for your children or for carers leave. 💭Safety and abuse: women are still expected to adapt and change their own behaviour to ensure their safety. Emasculation as a barrier to educating and encouraging men to join the conversation and bring about change shows there is more to be said for the breaking down the walls of toxic masculinity. https://lnkd.in/eK4fk3Tx

We've come a long way, but there is still work to be done to improve women's health outcomes. A significant barrier is the lack of funding. Currently, only 4% of healthcare research spending goes towards conditions that primarily affect women. That's why we're excited about the Biden-Harris Administration's recent announcement: the "ARPA-H Sprint for Women's Health." This new initiative will invest $100 million to accelerate women's health research. With more funding like this, closing the gender health gap becomes more possible.
