Heartfelt congratulations Samer Hamzi on your participation in the great initiative, #TheArcticChallenge! Your commitment to tackling such a formidable endeavor speaks volumes about your dedication to exploring and preserving our planet's most extreme environments. The initiative serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address #Environmental #Issues #globally. In the same spirit of your #TheArcticChallenge, we recognize the importance of #OceanConservation, especially in the context of India: 1. #Biodiversity: India has a vast coastline of about 7,500 km and numerous rivers that flow into the sea, which host a rich variety of marine life. Conserving these habitats is essential for maintaining biodiversity. 2. #EconomicImportance: The fishery, recognized as a 'Sunrise Sector', has seen a double-digit average annual growth, supporting around 28 million people, including marginalized and vulnerable communities. Sustainable fishing practices and healthy marine ecosystems are vital for the economic well-being of these communities. 3. #ClimateRegulation: Oceans play a crucial role in regulating the global climate. Healthy oceans help mitigate the impacts of #ClimateChange. 4. #CulturalSignificance: Coastal and marine areas have cultural significance for many communities in India, with numerous religious and social practices tied to the sea. 5. #MarineTourism: India's coastal regions are popular tourist destinations. Preserving the natural beauty and cleanliness of these areas is important for the tourism industry. 6. #InternationalCommitments: India is a signatory to various international agreements and conventions aimed at marine conservation, such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (#UNCLOS). 7. #Food Security: The oceans are a source of new discoveries, from marine species to pharmaceutical compounds. Investing in ocean conservation can lead to advancements in science and technology. 8. #PollutionControl: India's oceans are threatened by pollution, including plastic waste, which can harm marine life and human health. Ocean conservation efforts help to address these pollution issues. 9. #SustainableDevelopment: Ocean conservation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), particularly #SDG14, which calls for the #conservation and #sustainable use of the oceans, seas, and marine resources. Efforts to conserve and protect these #MarineEnvironments are essential for the well-being of both the ecosystem and the people who depend on it. 🌊 #EYforOceansMENA #EYRipples #OceansForTheFuture #TheArcticChallenge #IndianOceanRegion #BlueCarbonEcosystems

The Irish Sea Network is calling for more joined-up marine planning, as the Irish Sea’s wildlife and habitats face an uncertain future. With ambitious targets for net zero and 30 by 30 set by all six nations surrounding the Irish Sea, the extra demand for space in an already busy sea means there will be conflict between industries and uncertainty for sea users. The Irish Sea Network is calling for strategic effective and aligned Marine Spatial Prioritisation*. While it may be a difficult and sensitive task to prioritise activities in the Irish Sea it must be done urgently, with tackling the climate and nature crises at the heart of the decision-making process. Read the report published by the Irish Sea Network “Ecological Considerations for Marine Spatial Planning in the Irish Sea”. Find it here: https://lnkd.in/ewAuX2cc *Marine Spatial Prioritisation is a mechanism for deciding which activities should happen in what location, giving greater certainty for industries and sea users. #IrishSeaNetwork #30x30 #netzero #marine #OneIrishSea

How 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 can help deliver this? If you contributed to clean oceans by 2060 would: • you feel like you're making a difference? • your team be more engaged in your vision? • your customers be more committed to your venue? This is a great example of 'regenerative' hospitality Doing business in a way that supports: • our people (their well-being) • our local communities (society) • our local natural environments (nature) If we can get great results for our businesses AND our people (including you), communities & nature and in this specific case, take action in our businesses that contributes positively to the health of our oceans which unsurprisingly enriches our health too then why wouldn't we do it? Mainly, because it's just not 'normal business'. So, let's make it normal business. Let's make a difference Let's make it work for our business by improving our: • profitability • competitive advantage • staff engagement and retention And if you talk to your Gen Z staff about this you'll see their eyes light up and their hearts engage and that's going to be better for business. #regenerativehospitality is the Future of Hospitality ❤️ dC - sharing insights to save you pain/time & inspire you to thrive PS - check my website to get my Future of Hospitality weekly newsletter & register for our next monthly social audio event #hospitalityleadership #worklifebalance #performanceimprovement #regenerativehospitality Future of Hospitality
WATCH: The year is 2060, and we’ve fixed it. Our seas surge with life and nature sings once more. Our climate is stable and Earth has healed... This future is currently fictional. To make it real we MUST protect 30% of sea and land by 2030, under the global #30x30 commitment. Whilst this may sound doable, only 8% of sea and 3% of land is meaningfully protected in the UK according to Wildlife and Countryside Link analysis. The UK Government has a very long way to go. Great approach - sharing a vision that we need to aim for. This kind of messaging triggers positive thinking, empowerment, planning, a sense of agency and more! By developing visions of what the medium term future could look like realistically, across different environments and societies, we can then build the maps of how to get there. #futureenvironment #seaprotection #greensolutions #30x30
