Why the Maldives Doesn’t Have Stilt Houses? I've been pondering the unique architecture of the Maldives, especially the absence of stilt houses. One of the main reasons is that bamboo, a key material for stilt construction, isn’t common here. Instead, the people of the Maldives have ingeniously adapted to their environment by utilizing local materials like coral stones to build their homes. This sustainable approach not only reflects the culture and lifestyle of the Maldives but also demonstrates a deep respect for the surrounding natural resources. The Feng-Shui principles I used to design "Villa Maia", are an extension of my personality and the intricate attention I pay to the details, so let me share with you a bit more about Villa Maia... The U-shape of the villa, indicates that there's open access to the flow of Yang energy - the energy connected with activity and joy. If you noticed in the photo attached the U-shape of Villa Maia faces the sea. According to Feng-Shui the "water element" is connected to financial increase and opportunities, and so the positioning of the villa is prone to accepting wealth and new career opportunities. Generally, it's beneficial for the occupants to live in a villa with an U-shape facade, because except from the aesthetically beautiful minimalist design, it can be functional in terms of ventilation, heating and cooling if designed properly. And let's not forget that the views such design offers, contributes positively to their positive mental and emotional stimulation. Stunning Facade Complete on $600M development.... and it looks awesome! The Seafarers façade is now complete, marking an exciting milestone in the $600 million mixed-use development at Melbourne’s North Wharf, opposite Melbourne's Exhibition Centre. Combining modern architecture with heritage restoration, this project breathes new life into the historic Goods Shed No.5 while introducing Australia’s first 1 Hotel & Homes. Located along Wurundjeri Way with great Yarra River views, the development stands out with its intricate façade of 4,856 panels. Designed by Fender Katsalidis and RIVERLEE, the lower levels reflect the angular design of the heritage-listed shed, while the upper sections echo the fluidity of the river itself. This project isn’t just about aesthetics. Over 2,000 salvaged items from Goods Shed No.5 have been incorporated, merging Melbourne’s rich architectural heritage with modern innovation. The new 3,500sqm Seafarers Rest Park will also add green space for residents and visitors to enjoy. An incredibly complex project, but shaping up nicely as a new icon on the Yarra River!
