🗣 #Connections Matter: Senior leadership #Hiring Back in the day, I’d often hear that “senior hiring is all about #connections.” I didn’t fully grasp what this meant. The idea of #networking, building #relationships, and opening up to those senior leaders felt intimidating. I'd wonder, "Is it really just about who you know?" Fast forward, as I started to work more in hiring, I noticed senior professionals, with their years of experience, have specific #aspirations. They look for companies with #purpose, teams they can uplift, and roles that align with their personal growth—not just the usual job description! I found myself getting the best insights over #food 😁 Through this, I realized connections aren’t just about “who you know”—they’re about what you learn and how you relate. Being able to understand their aspirations, and build authentic relationships is key. Now, I view connections as #bridges, not just #pathways. For anyone in hiring or leadership, I can’t stress enough: invest in genuine #relationships. Getting promoted to Vice President isn’t just another career step; it’s a major transition that changes your professional landscape. ▶ As a VP, you’ll be viewed as an executive, making it difficult to later accept a lower title or salary without raising questions about your career trajectory. While the compensation boost is appealing, it also places you at higher risk if the company faces layoffs or restructures. ▶ Expect longer hours and more responsibility. VP roles often require balancing people leadership with individual contributor tasks, stretching your workload and expectations. ▶ The stakes are higher, with greater accountability, high-pressure decision-making, and the need to navigate expectations from senior leadership and your team. ▶ A significant shift when stepping into a VP role is putting company decisions above personal preferences. Let's set the record straight: 3-5 years qualify for Managers, 5-7 for Senior Managers, 8-10 for Directors, and 10+ for VP roles.
