A month ago I watched my first live event on Netflix. I hadn't thought live events were a great strategy play for Netflix and had resisted tuning in. That all changed when unfinished beef was announced. It's the head-to-head rematch of the greatest hot dog eaters of all time. Watching this peak of human achievement brought back memories of my own hotdog-eating experience. That's right folks. In 2019 I lost a Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier in front of 10,000+ people. Here's what it taught me about B2B Sales: 1. Never underestimate your opponent: Steeping out to compete the man next to me was a foot shorter and at least a hundred pounds lighter than me. I managed to eat 16 hot dogs in 10 minutes. He ate 32. If you don't anticipate your competition they will steal all your deals and leave you with an upset stomach. 2. Have that Dog in ya: At 16 dogs it's safe to say I had that dog in me. My opponent had twice as much dog in em. If you don't have that dog in ya, you are gonna lose. It's a dog-eat-dog world. 3. Stand where you can shine: Since the guy next to me went on to win the event I was stuck in the jumbotron picture during the whole event. Everyone in the arena got to see the meat sweats kick in. Where you position yourself is really important if you want to be seen. 4. Competition Pushes Limits: I was ready to die at 13 dogs. If I hadn't been on the jumbotron the whole time I would have stopped there but the crowd, the lights, and the public shame kept me going. Are you taking advantage of public shaming to bring out the best in you? 5. Learn from the Best. If I hadn't watched the July 4th competition every year I would have never had the guts (figuratively and literally) to try something like this. Who are you learning from? How are you training your gut? You either eat a hero or go hungry long enough to become the villain
