The valuable discussions at International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) continue on day three for Anita Logiudice and I. I recently sat down with Rob Tyson to partake in his Dig Deep The Mining Podcast. The podcast will come out in due course (once the editing of all my ramblings has been spliced). But the conversation got me thinking about my move into a CEO of a junior mining company from my background, which has been very operationally focused. Without ruining the podcast that will be released in the coming weeks, the one thing that really resonated as chatted about this career shift was the role a CEO plays as a CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) of the company. When building mid-tier to major mining companies as I have done in the past, we really focused two pieces: 1. The business (cash flows and production) 2. Safety, environment and community (in that order) When moving in to the CEO role at a junior, you have all that to consider then you add a 3rd which is marketing. And it gets a bad rap in the industry but when it is done right, in a transparent and sustainable way, it is a vital part of the business and it's been my biggest learning in 2024. I will touch on a few points as we go on this journey but for now, my biggest achievement is a mailing list of RUA GOLD of over 2,000 shareholders and followers and they get updates on the company with every news article we release (and we are just getting started). Its a way of personally staying in touch, it costs nothing to the company and I get to de-fluff the technical and legal jargon of the news release and give the plain English update.
