Florida’ Stunning Everglades The Florida Everglades is a unique and vast ecosystem located in the southern part of #Florida, USA. It’s a subtropical wilderness, immense wetlands, and diverse wildlife. The Everglades covers about 1.5 million acres, making it one of the largest wetlands in the world. It stretches from near Orlando with the Kissimmee River, through Lake Okeechobee, down to Florida Bay at the southern end of the state. It is incredibly rich in biodiversity. It is home to numerous species of plants and animals, some of which are endangered or unique to the area. This includes the American alligator, the Florida panther, the West Indian manatee, and a variety of bird species like the Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Stork, and various types of herons and egrets. The Everglades ecosystem is predominantly a water-based or hydrological environment, characterized by a slow-moving river flowing out of Lake Okeechobee into Florida Bay. The region includes sawgrass marshes, cypress swamps, mangrove forests, and coastal marine environments. #Everglades

Meet the Spotted Pardalote, one of Australia's smallest but most striking birds.🐦 Despite its small size, the Spotted Pardalote (Pardalotus punctatus) plays a significant role in our ecosystem by helping regulate insect populations, particularly psyllids and lerp-making insects. With its speckled crown, vibrant yellow throat and soft calls, this tiny bird is a frequent visitor to the landscapes of Greenfleet’s forests. They typically inhabit the canopy of tall eucalypts, where the dense foliage offers an ideal habitat, and find perfect nesting and foraging grounds across our Wurneet Laang Laang, Bromfields Road, Mount Emily, and Territory forests in Victoria's South Gippsland. Since 1997, Greenfleet has restored almost 11,000 hectares of native forests. These biodiverse forests are growing to provide safe havens for many Australian wildlife species, including some of the most threatened animals in Australia.🌳 To learn more about how the Spotted Pardalote and other native birds interact with some of our forests, visit: https://lnkd.in/ggzwC4-Q #GrowingHope #Reforestation #WildlifeHabitat #NativeBirds

🌿✨ Wetlands: Home of Endangered Wildlife ✨🌿 Wetlands are vital ecosystems teeming with life, from waterbirds to frogs and turtles. They support a diverse array of species throughout their life cycles. Sadly, wetlands are in decline, with over one-third lost between 1970 and 2015, threatening the habitats of endangered animals. Here are some endangered species that rely on wetlands: 🦢 Whooping Crane: North America's tallest bird, found in marshes. 🐾 Florida Panther: Critically endangered, living in freshwater swamps. 🐢 Bog Turtle: The smallest turtle in the U.S., dwelling in wetland areas. 🦩 Australasian Bittern: A waterbird native to Australia's wetlands. 🐸 Southern Corroboree Frog: A tiny frog dependent on alpine wetlands. Why are they threatened? Habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species are key threats to these species. Protecting wetlands is crucial for their survival. How can you help? Learn about local wetlands and their wildlife. Conserve water and reduce chemical use. Prevent invasive species from spreading. Together, we can protect and restore wetlands for future generations. 🌏💧 https://hubs.ly/Q02BdwSS0 #WorldWetlandsDay #Conservation #EndangeredSpecies #WetlandsProtection #WildlifeConservation #wildlifedrones #radiotracking #radiotelemetry #droneconservation #telemetry #conservation

What do small-flowered snottygobble, waddy-wood, tangled wattle, regent honeyeater, night parrot and princess parrot all have in common? They are all priority species under the Threatened Species Action Plan 2022–2032, and they are all impacted by rabbits! Rabbits hold the number 1 spot among invasive species in Australia by impacting the greatest number of our precious threatened species. They: 🐰 devour seedlings and saplings 🐰 degrade land 🐰 compete for food 🐰 enable the increase of invasive predators 🐰 worsen the impact on native fauna. CSIRO is conducting a survey to identify the research, management and other actions needed to ensure the long-term maintenance of native species and ecological communities affected by rabbits. If you or your organisation are impacted by rabbits or managing rabbits, you’re invited to have your say. This will help identify the research and management actions needed to ensure the long-term future of native species and ecological communities affected by rabbits. Hop to it and provide your feedback—and unlike rabbits, the more the merrier, so share this opportunity with your networks: https://brnw.ch/21wLstX The survey closes on Friday, 26 July. 📷CSIRO #threatenedspecies #environment #biodiversity

How to Use Trees to Enhance Wildlife Habitats! Managing trees to support local wildlife can greatly improve biodiversity and ecosystem health. 🌳 Planting native trees that produce nuts, berries, and leaves provides essential food for animals. Installing birdhouses and feeders attracts birds, while maintaining layered vegetation from ground level to the canopy offers shelter and nesting spaces. Even preserving dead trees can create critical habitats for numerous species. Want to transform your landscape into a thriving wildlife habitat? Don't let this photo be the last way your children and future generations can see the Borneo bay cat. We can still save this Endangered species. The bay cat is an Endangered species only found on the island of Borneo; its dense forests make this cat species one of the most mysterious and elusive felids in the world. Panthera is just beginning to uncover its mysteries through our ten-year camera survey in Malaysian Borneo. However, we need to work quickly. Habitat fragmentation and the illegal wildlife trade pose serious threats for this already imperiled and enigmatic species — only a handful of images of it exist! Our data is helping us guide conservation strategies for this species before it's too late. When we protect Borneo bay cats, we protect Bornean forests, who need wild cat species to regulate nutrient cycles that power this exceptionally biodiverse, fragile and timeless ecosystem. Learn more about how you can help the bay cat before tomorrow's #EndangeredSpeciesDay: https://bit.ly/4aaUYbb Consider signing up for our monthly newsletter for the latest updates on Endangered wild cats, before it's too late: panthera.org/signup

🌿 Calling all nature enthusiasts! 🦎 As we approach the season of newt migration (and frogs & toads for that matter), let's come together to ensure the safe journey of these incredible creatures to their breeding grounds. Here's how you can help without breaking any laws on these protected species: 1. **Observe from Afar:** Newts are sensitive to disturbance. Enjoy watching them from a distance to avoid causing stress during their migration. 2. **Hands Off, Please:** Resist the urge to handle newts. Touching them can transfer oils and chemicals from your skin, potentially harming them. Let them navigate their journey undisturbed. 3. **Roadside Assistance:** If you spot newts crossing roads, lend a helping hand without direct contact. Gently guide them in the direction they're headed, ensuring a safe passage to their destination. 4. **Educate Others:** Spread awareness about the importance of protecting newts and their habitats. Knowledge is a powerful tool in conservation. Let's celebrate and safeguard the beauty of our local wildlife! 🚫👐 #NewtConservation #WildlifeProtection #NatureLovers #marnelpark

The Mississippi Alluvial Valley is considered an important flyway for migratory birds—a favorite fowl Airbnb stop. An estimated 40% of North America’s waterfowl and 60% of all bird species migrate to and through the region. Flooded bottomland hardwood forests are havens and food sources. Unfortunately, this bird hotspot has shrunk to 8 million acres from its original 25-million-acre size, putting a strain on the land and the birds. Using the latest data and technology to identify the forests where tree planting would have the greatest impact on the world, The Arbor Day Foundation has determined this region a top planting priority. We’re working with trusted local partners and landowners to not only reforest the region, but also to ensure the forest stands are structured to support wildlife.
