📚 Take a read at the scientific publication from our partners at Technische Universität Braunschweig and TU Dortmund University 🛠️ "The manufacturing industry faces numerous challenges: increasing energy and material costs, limited resources availability, customers’ and legal requirements on product quality, climate action, and social standards. An example of a political and regulative push is the European Green Deal and the Industry 5.0 strategy announced by the European Commission, which requires manufacturing enterprises to take actions to improve sustainability. Especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) require support to identify potentially suitable actions to implement." 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dFuTMdzd

🚨 NEW EPISODE | The Future of the European Green Deal In this second episode of Policy Crossroads, Brooke Moore and Garvan Walshe from the EPC engage in dialogue with MEP Sara Matthieu from the Greens – European Free Alliance, exploring the some key challenges with regard to the implementation of the Green Deal during the next mandate. The exchange revolves around the following questions: Where does the disconnect between the EU and public sentiment lie regarding environmental policies? How can the EU bridge this gap effectively? Are objections from the far right solely aimed at the agricultural sector, or do they reflect a wider criticism of the European economic system? What is the biggest challenge to implementing the Green Deal post-elections? How can the Green Deal involve citizens in the transition instead of imposing changes on them? Is there space for increased citizen participation to overcome obstacles and foster inclusion? Sara Matthieu argues that “we are not going to have this big renovation that we need if member states do not put the money where their mouth is”. Watch it here 👇

🗣 The CCSA's Head of EU External Affairs Stefano Miriello recently chaired a panel discussion at a Belgo-British CCUS event hosted by the British Embassy Brussels. The discussion explored the opportunities and challenges for a closer Belgo-British collaboration and a potential Europe-wide market for CO₂. Thanks to the British Embassy Brussels for bringing stakeholders together for this important discussion on international collaboration. #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero
We had great insights and interesting discussions last Monday during our Belgo-British CCUS roundtable in Brussels. Key stakeholders from both countries met to discuss how Belgium and the UK could collaborate to develop integrated CO2 capture and storage solutions. Tomas Wyns set the scene by sharing his views on the status of the shift to net-zero as well as offering out-of-the-box suggestions on how policy can be enhanced to accelerate or overcome some of the challenges. The opening presentation was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Stefano Miriello from Carbon Capture and Storage Association, which explored the opportunities and challenges for a closer Belgo-British collaboration and a potential Europe-wide market for CO2. It was great to hear the insights from our industry panel Gabrielle Gauthey, Hanne Talboom Pierre Girard and Leen Vanhamme on this. Many thanks to all participants and we look forward to bringing these plans to the next level.”

We absolutely agree with Cllr Liz Leffman's insights on the crucial role of transport decarbonisation. At ICRF, we are 100% committed to this mission, enabling train operators to shift road freight to passenger rail services, thereby supporting sustainable economic growth and improved social outcomes. Investment in rail and public transport is essential for facilitating modal shift, achieving greater efficiencies, cost savings, and emission reductions. Our approach at ICRF demonstrates how existing resources and capacity can be maximised to meet these objectives, driving supply chain innovation and enhancing customer service while reducing environmental impact.
"Creating better places” Cllr Liz Leffman, Chair England's Economic Heartland at the East of England Local Government Association Net Zero and Climate Resilience summit on crucial role transport decarbonisation has not just in reducing emissions, but providing better health, economic & social outcomes. Reflecting on the event Cllr Leffman said: ‘I was delighted to speak at today’s conference, which demonstrated the strong commitment amongst both public and private sectors to reduce emissions and achieve net zero. Given the economic opportunity that net zero presents, it is fitting that the Opportunity East report was launched at the conference. Our economic potential, powered by world class innovation in science and technology, offers a huge opportunity for the government to support sustainable economic growth, but this can only be achieved if we see commitment to priority investment in rail and public transport schemes, including delivery in full of schemes such as East West Rail, Ely Junction and the HERT mass rapid transit.’

Up to £30,000 of funding is available for local authorities and their stakeholders in the Midlands to develop plans to decarbonise local industrial zones. The aims of this competition are to: ✅Support the development of decarbonisation plans for local industrial and commercial zones across the Midlands. ✅Increase organisational collaboration and strengthen decarbonisation planning skills, capacity, and capability in local industrial and commercial zones. ✅Gather evidence to inform decarbonisation of other local industrial and commercial zones.
