On this day of Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect on the profound history and ongoing journey of reconciliation with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples in Canada. This day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to honour the rights and dignity of Indigenous Peoples and to commit to meaningful actions that foster healing and understanding. The #CSSB is dedicated to upholding the rights of Indigenous Peoples and ensuring their meaningful participation in shaping sustainability disclosure standards in Canada. In the global context, these rights are described in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), 2007. In the Canadian context these rights are described in Section 35 of the Constitution and in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, 2021. The CSSB intends to use its influence to help inform international sustainability disclosure standards in a manner respectful of Indigenous Peoples’ rights as defined by UNDRIP. The CSSB recognizes that advancing reconciliation with First Nation, Métis and Inuit Peoples in Canada is fundamental to the work of Canadian standard setting for sustainability-related disclosures. Our 2024-2025 Annual Plan, currently underway, prioritizes building trust and relationships with Indigenous communities. As we look ahead to commencing our inaugural Strategic Plan consultation in 2025, we will continue to listen and collaborate with Indigenous Peoples to integrate their perspectives—vital to creating inclusive and equitable sustainability disclosure standards. Together, we can pave the way for a more inclusive future. #NDTR2024 #Reconciliation

🌍 Partner Africa is excited to witness the encouraging strides taken during the March 15th Coreper meeting, where EU Member States rallied in support of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive #csddd. This advancement represents a significant step towards fostering sustainable business practices in Africa and beyond. The CSDDD will require large European companies to conduct comprehensive human rights and environmental due diligence across their operations and global value chains. This Directive carries immense potential to tackle urgent human rights and environmental challenges, establishing a benchmark that will reverberate on an international scale. the CSDDD’s emphasis on human rights and environmental due diligence aligns seamlessly with Partner Africa’s mission to promote responsible business conduct in Africa. We eagerly anticipate the European Parliament’s adoption of this initiative and stand ready to support its implementation. We are committed to assisting companies operating in Africa to meet these new requirements, fostering a culture of respect for human rights and environmental stewardship. Together, let's harness the power of business for good and pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable future. #csddd #responsiblebusiness #sustainability #humanrights #environmentalstewardship

ICIN is supportive of new budget commitments from the federal government that protect Indigenous rights in carbon and support the development of the Australian carbon industry. As the national peak body supporting First Nations engagement in the carbon industry, ICIN welcomes the May 2024 budget announcement of $12.2 million for First Nations peoples to participate in upfront consent processes for Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) projects. “ICIN’s research reveals Indigenous Peoples hold rights to undertake carbon projects across 58% of Australia’s landmass. Indigenous People must be respected as equal partners who bring value and capacity to carbon projects rather than just being consulted as a regulatory requirement. In our experience, the greater the level of engagement and ownership in a project by Indigenous People – the greater the outcomes for all,” said Interim ICIN CEO Shaun Ansell Read ICIN's full budget response: https://lnkd.in/gQiSJRtB #climateaction #climatechange #netzero #netnegative #indigenousknowledge #firemanagement #indigenouspeople #climatejustice

The DeHavilland EU and OPP policy team has created an exclusive briefing on MEPs who could play a key role in the EU’s sustainable development agenda during the tenth parliamentary term. This briefing identifies: ✔️ Five new faces who have expertise on these issues outside the Parliament ✔️ Five returning champions whose importance will undoubtedly increase due to their knowledge of the issues and processes ✔️ Five former MEPs who have been active on these issues in Parliament during the 9th legislature and whose departure will most likely open up a vacancy for newcomers.
