15 APRIL, INTERNATIONAL MICROVOLUNTEERING DAY: My goodness, if I had the time and ability, I have so many things I want to get involved in volunteering. Let's get real though, that's not practical for most of this. But, this doesn't have to be a binary decision if we really want to make a difference in the world. Established in 2014, this day is meant to raise awareness of the little things we can make time to do. Microvolunteering is about undertaking small actions to make a positive impact in the world. These opportunities are all around us, we just have to look for them. Here are some ideas to get you going: write a letter to a hospitalized patient, organize a time to pick up stuff people want to donate and deliver the stuff to an organization, search online to donate your skills to a project for a nonprofit (personally, I've written the occasional blog for nonprofits or donated art to a charity), share the story of a charity you appreciate on your socials to raise awareness, donate blood, fill out an online survey for a nonprofit to help them with their mission, join one or a couple of your local museums because your membership helps pay for them, offer to give someone a ride... hope this helps! With the start of November, Giving Tuesday is just a few weeks away—and for many organizations, it’s one of the most important days of the year. 🌍 It’s a powerful reminder that not everyone is being asked to give—and the opportunity to engage is more significant than we may think. GivingPulse data from 2023 shows that 55% of donors in the first three quarters and 47% in the fourth don’t recall being asked to give. Even more compelling, 9% of people who weren’t asked would have donated if they had been (GivingTuesday.com). This shows that “donor fatigue” isn’t just about being asked too often but about delivering a message that genuinely resonates. Giving Tuesday is an ideal time to reach out with clear, impactful ways for supporters to make a difference. For #HispanicHeritageMonth consider going to your organization’s “Charitable Giving online program” (I.e. Benevity or others) and selecting Veronica Robles Cultural Center (VROCC). We are an organization that promotes Latin American arts and cultures as an engine for stronger communities and economic growth. If we aren’t in the system, your community relations, or social impact leader can point you in the right direction. During Hispanic Heritage Month (Sep 15 to Oct 15) some organizations will double or triple match contributions to Latino organizations. A great way to make your donation go a long way. Consider us when selecting your community impact contribution!!! "Not sure a tech thing is going to connect people in the nonprofit space." Our dear friend and supporter Evan Wildstein said that in our first Hive interview (when we were workshopping this idea). Now that The Nonprofit Hive is live we had to have him back to talk about his experiences to date! Our founder takeaways: 1. Hive Chats are giving a voice to ALL nonprofiteers (and that is desperately needed in this space.) 2. Our platform is simple and easy to use (even for the non-techies ❤️ ) 3. Talking about your mission with others is going to JAZZ your nonprofit work up (who doesn't love some mid-week inspiration?) Our Hive is growing because the nonprofit industry needs connection.
