At the IFFO – The Marine Ingredients Organisation meeting last week in Miami, co-founder of the Global Roundtable on Marine Ingredients, David Martin from Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, presented SFP’s upcoming #Aquaculture #Feed Solutions Toolkit, which aims to help companies support improvements and measure risk and impact. "Marine ingredients companies should get involved with #fishery managers and support continuous improvements, while strengthening #traceability and #humanrights due diligence" he noted. The Global Roundtable is actively involved in driving positive changes throughout the value chain and more details about its work can be found at: https://lnkd.in/e4fFMFg2

To the seafood industry, the kinds of folks that join gatherings like Clinton Global Initiative can seem pretentious and misinformed about fisheries and aquaculture. All the more reason for seafood execs to get into those rooms. No doubt these high-level events are *way* less fun that Boston or Barcelona. But like it or not, major decisions about the future of the fishing and aquaculture industries are being made there -- with or without the industry. Aker BioMarine ASA CEO Matts Johansen has some advice -- and some words of caution. #seafood #fisheries #aquaculture #sustainability #carbonemissions Builders Vision S2G Ventures https://lnkd.in/gyn_rF63

🌊 Community Catch Consultation: Empowering Small-Scale Fisheries for a Sustainable Future 🌊 Small-scale fisheries (SSFs) are the unsung heroes of our oceans, contributing roughly half of the world's fish catches and providing livelihoods for over 90% of the global fishers and fish workers, with half being women and covering the planet! Yet, they often struggle with market access, fair pricing, and recognition. Community Catch is hoping to change that by creating innovative, market-based solutions that enable SSFs to achieve sustainability, access better markets, and improve their communities' well-being. AND.. they need your voice to shape the future of sustainable small-scale fisheries. Your input will help ensure that our programs are effective, inclusive, and beneficial for fishers worldwide. See Below to provide your inputs and voice.. Together, we can create a future where small-scale fishers thrive, our oceans are healthy, and sustainable seafood is available for all. 🌍🐟 #CommunityCatch #SustainableFishing #SmallScaleFisheries #OceanConservation #FoodSecurity #SustainableDevelopment

Responsibility for the Future, the 12th edition of the Conxemar-#FAO Congress, kicked off today in Vigo, serving as a prelude to the 25th International Fair of Frozen Seafood Products, Conxemar, which begins tomorrow. This year the focus of the congress will be on analyzing the Report on the State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture (SOFIA 2024), which reveals a landmark shift: for the first time, aquaculture production has surpassed that of capture fishing, accounting for 51% of global totals in 2022. Throughout the day, panelists explored sustainable fisheries resource management, policy challenges, and value chain innovation. The speakers of the five round tables also underscored the industry's crucial role in supporting populations, creating stable employment, and fostering economic growth and social equity. #eurofishint #fisheries #aquaculture #conxemar #fao

Activism is present in many areas, but it seems to be lacking when it comes to building stronger global alliances within the seafood industry. There needs to be a greater focus on collaboration rather than internal competition between wild fisheries and aquaculture, between domestic products and imports, and among large retailers who often prioritize their own standards over a unified global approach. These internal industry conflicts are distracting us from the bigger picture. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gg8fZGRn
