Salvation Army’s 2024 State of the Nation Report indicates food support services nationwide have seen a 40% increase in demand. 40% 🤯 That's hard to read. There's so much need out there and we know everyday organisations like Fair Food NZ, Kura Kai, The Salvation Army and more are all trying their best to meet it. It's our dream to be able to meet that level of need so no one goes hungry. Our even bigger dream is that no one would go hungry in the first place. But for now, whether you're adding a small donation when you're shopping online at one of our partners, chucking an extra pack of toilet paper (one of the high-demand items at food banks) into the trolly for the food bank, or whatever small thing you can, let's try to help these charities together. Sometimes it can feel almost hopeless. But every small action makes a difference when we do it together.

A busy summer has resulted in a dip in food donations at local food banks and community fridges. Can your business help replenish stocks? There are lots of ways your business can help: 🥫Organise a food collection at your workplace, or encourage your colleagues to make donations at their local supermarket. You can find your nearest food bank or support service on the Access to Food Map App: https://lnkd.in/eXZKp4_M 💵 Consider making a charitable donation to your local food support project, or arrange a collection. The money will be spent on the items most in need. 🥪If you are a local restaurant, cafe or food producer, you may have surplus food that you can donate. There are community fridges across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole that can come and collect - our Map App has a list. Our partners help families and individuals from all walks of life, many who are experiencing short term food insecurity due to a change in circumstance, for example illness, job loss or increase in rent/mortgage payments. Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

What none of the charities are brave enough to say because they don't want to hurt your feelings because they want you to help... but I respect you enough to understand that you think you're helping, and genuinely do want to help. Part 2 What they say " Thank you for donating me the pallet of food, I'll send a driver." What they think "Shit, how am I going to afford to pick this food up then get it out to my people, if I don't go then I'll lose the food and we desperately need it" - they work silly hours under pressure, begging for money for operational costs, but there's no funding available for that. What they need: Delivery the food to them because they are so up against it and the responsibility and burden of the costs of food surplus lands on the lowest in the food chain. Mostly they are saving the profitable organisations money in surplus disposal. You're welcome 🫣

A brief word about BREADCOIN. Have you heard of these guys? A non-profit supporting food availability by circulating actual coins valued at $2.50 to buy food at participating locations. The Overlea Farmers Market, where I volunteer every other Saturday (just to keep you on your toes), we spread around a lot of "free" money which buoyed our vendors and made artisanal bread, preserves, fresh vegetables and even fish sandwiches go home with people regardless of their situation. But the coins aren't really free. They are directly funded by donations from supporters of Breadcoin's nonprofit mission to go directly to facilitating food access for everyone. Check them out. A low-overhead non-profit focused on getting food into peoples mouths and removing the social stigma. I am not food insecure. Especially after the cheddar sage biscuits I bought with Breadcoin. Ugh. I shouldn't have mentioned those. Now I want one. Breadcoin is actively recruiting partners and donors to the cause. Currently operating in Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania. And Florida? Yup. Tampa/St. Pete are down with the Breadcoin, too.

🏨 Hotels are not our biggest donors. But did you know that? 🤔 Last week, we asked you who our top donors are. There's often a misconception that our biggest donors are hotels (they represent only 2% of donations) or even restaurants (only 3.5%). But our Top 3 food donors are: 1️⃣ Distributors - with over 784,000 KGs of food donated 2️⃣ Supermarkets - with over 157,000 KGs of food donated 3️⃣ Manufacturers - with over 64,000 KGs of food donated ➕ But overall, it all adds up to a lot! Regardless of the amount of food saved, every partner plays a crucial role in our mission to tackle food waste, making a significant difference in the long run. ➡️ Ready to join us? Donate your surplus food today: https://lnkd.in/dsJABWdm

Dominations needed… step up.
FOOD DONATIONS NEEDED! Some of you may know but the food stamp office in Memphis is months behind on processing and the men and women in our half way houses who have just come out of treatment depend on that until they can get their feet underneath them. If anyone feels led to help with this, PLEASE comment and Matt or I will coordinate getting. We also need cleaning supplies, coffee, etc. If you’re not close enough to bring food, I’m putting a link in here for online donations and we will get them food from that. Just put in “Food” in the notes section. THANK YOU!🙏🏻 FlandersFields.org/donate
