Recently, I assigned a task to one of my CA interns—to analyze the tax implications of an agreement from a GST standpoint. She completed the assignment meticulously and presented a thorough report. When I praised her for her work and mentioned that I would be receiving the credit for it, she surprised me with her response: “Sir, you take the credit, but I gained what I aimed for—the learning and knowledge from executing this task.” This interaction made me reflect deeply. Despite knowing that I would be receiving credit for her work, she prioritized her own growth and learning. It’s a reminder that in any learning environment, whether as a mentor or a mentee, the focus should always be on the growth and knowledge gained rather than who gets the credit. Hey Network, Since this is my first post I thought I’d give an update on life as of now. Since October 2023, I made the decision to ditch the traditional university route and acquire an apprenticeship within the financial sector. Though I was motivated by my new choice, no amount of cautioning could’ve prepared me for the coming months. The new world of online interviews and assessment centres was so abstract to me, coupled with consistent rejection made it demoralising at times. But I was never one to shy away from challenges; I found the rejections were times of experience, opportunities to apply my new experiences in my next interview. With that, I’m proud to say I received an offer for the Tax Consulting Degree Apprenticeship in London with Deloitte. I’d like to thank God for the opportunities he has provided for me. Secondly, Tracey ABAYETA for the industry insight she provided me, I look forward to working with you in the future. Finally Allan Todd for the relentless and impactful conversations we shared over these couple months. TIPS FOR FUTURE APPRENTICE: Network - Link with current apprentices and gain a better understanding not only of the firm but also the role itself Stay Motivated - As a student the received a plethora of rejections, don’t focus on them. As much as they may have viewed you as the wrong fit, they may have been wrong for you. Use those rejections as learning points and improve for next time Read the job description - I couldn’t tell you the number of times I misinterpreted a role I applied for ; make sure you understand the requirements and job details. You don’t want to be stuck with a job you’re not happy with LASTLY Try and have fun with it - Assement Centers and Interviews are an opportunity for you to show off, take that with open arms and display why you’re best for the role I’m so excited for the next few chapters, hard work doesn’t stop until results day!

This is a common issue for students who participate in internships or training programs, as they are often not compensated at the same rate as regular employees. There are a number of arguments in favor of raising stipends for student trainees to match the minimum wage. First, it would help to ensure that students are able to afford to live and work while completing their training. Second, it would send a message that the work of student trainees is valued. Finally, it could help to reduce income inequality between students who are able to afford unpaid internships and those who cannot. "MY ICAN JOURNEY" A Word which kept me going "ICAN" The word "ICAN" became my motto, reminding me that I CAN do it. I am thrilled to share that I passed my #ican exams in just one attempt within two and a half years. I discovered #ican in my first year of university, Due to financial constraints, I decided to write the exams after my graduation. However, a seminar I attended changed everything. The speaker shared how her #ican certificate and relevant skills landed her an internship at an accounting firm prior to graduation. I knew I had to follow in her footsteps. Determined to succeed, I found a way to raise funds for my exams. I wrote my ATS 1 in March 2022 and, encouraged by my easy pass, I paid for my ATS 2. As I progressed, the exams became increasingly challenging. I was intimidated by the high failure rates in Performance Management (Skills Level) and Advanced Audit and Assurance (Professional Level), but I refused to be held back by fear. Through hard work, dedication, and steadfast prayer, I pushed through the obstacles and achieved my goal. I passed all my papers without attending any tutorials, relying on #ican study packs and online materials. During my journey, I developed strong time management skills, balancing my reading schedule with work commitments. This is just the beginning of my journey... I'm now open to internship opportunities in Auditing, Accounting, Finance, and Investment Banking. I'm eager to apply my knowledge, gain industry insights, and tackle challenging projects. I look forward to learning from experts in my field.

You know that moment as an undergraduate when studying and reading research papers You could swear that you would never read a book after graduating...... Well, It's a lie. My journey after graduation revealed how much we truly learn outside of school. My father often quoted a phrase from an old exercise book that said, “Learning never ends.” He would add, "You learn every day." This truth has deeply resonated with me at this stage in my life. I’ve realized that while life throws lessons at you, there are also lessons you must actively seek to grow and succeed. Nothing in this world can replace the value of continuous learning. I’ve been especially inspired by Ben Carson’s book Think Big, where I learned that knowledge is indeed power and that applying knowledge with wisdom makes it a superpower. Despite promising myself as a young graduate that I wouldn’t pick up another book, I found myself pursuing my dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant. I was privileged to intern at an accounting firm with a team of experienced professionals and Chartered Accountants, and it has been a remarkable journey. During my internship, I strengthened my communication skills through interactions with colleagues, external partners, and clients. I honed my administrative skills by assisting in the firm’s administrative department, and I advanced my computer skills as well.
