Participated as a "Panelist" at the session on “Leveraging Incubators for Start-up Excellence” at the National Conference on Building Sustainable Agricultural Start-ups in India, organised by A-Idea- NAARM TBI at Hyderabad. Representing an ICAR Agri-Business Incubator along with the panelists from the renowned incubators like IKP Knowledge Park, ICRISAT and MABIF (TNAU), under the Chairmanship of Dr RM Sundaram, Director, IIRR, we had insightful discussion on role of incubation in nurturing agricultural startups. During the discussion, I emphasized the following points: 1. In the post-COVID era, agricultural value chain focused entrepreneurship by grassroot organisations (e.g. FPO, SHG, agripreneurs) is gaining momentum. "Campus-based incubators" are facing problems in providing incubation services to grassroot businesses operating along-side the established value chains. The Satellite Incubation Centre model developed by ICAR-CTCRI ABI will be suitable for value-chain based incubation (https://lnkd.in/gwmH8bQ2) 2. The ABIs can play a key role in facilitating marketing of the technological products developed by multiple ICAR institutes. The ICAR-CTCRI ABI has developed an innovative product sale model - "Root sMart Mall" - An exclusive shop for selling technological products developed by ICAR Institutes, at the ICAR-CTCRI Campus, Thiruvananthapuram (https://lnkd.in/gNkK7uuQ). 3. There is a need to equip the agricultural students with critical business skills to enable them to either establish agritech startups or facilitate them in developing viable business models. We need to go beyond "sensitising" agricultural students to "equipping" them with critical competencies for creating and managing agritech startups. The ICAR-CTCRI has developed a system - Certified Agritech Startup Professional (CAgtSP) scheme to create "student facilitators" for Agritech startups (https://lnkd.in/gX6jTDQ5.) Thanks to a-IDEA NAARM, Dr S Senthil Vinayagam, CEO, A-idea for providing the opportunity for sharing my views at the Panel. #agritech #startup #Agri-Business Incubation
