Steel kegs are NOT part of the new wine bottle redemption law. Steel kegs are reusable and re-fillable for decades and therefore not part of the recycling system. "The 2022 bill (SB1013) makes wineries responsible for labeling, tracking, reporting and paying recycling fees based on the number of wine containers they sell in California ..... Effective Jan. 1 of 2024, wineries began to be responsible for registering with CalRecycle and soon after report on the number of bottles of wine they produce for consumption in California and pay a fee for each bottle of wine produced. .....). Tetra paks, cans and bag in box wine are also included in the recycling program." Restaurants and Wineries are improving the quality of wine pours, increasing margins on wine, reducing liquid waste, and reducing carbon emissions with wine-on-tap from stainless steel kegs - a package that is reusable for decades. Free Flow is happy to have helped supply premium wines in reusable stainless steel kegs for the past thirteen years. Reusable packaging is better for the environment and reduces reliance on new packaging supply chains. Kegs provide better taste and less waste. Wine is susceptible to oxygen, light and heat. Wine inside a keg, however, is kept cool, dark and safe from oxygen transfer. #Wineontap #winequality #sustainability #reusable #packaging #recycle #ecofriendly #circulareconomy #environmental #sustainable #reuse #refill #refillable #closedloop #freeflowwines

Did you know? 🧐😮 Round glass bottles are the largest contributor to wine's carbon footprint, contributing up to 74% of wine's emissions, when combined with secondary packaging and transport.* Putting this into perspective, Australia produces around 1.7 billion wine bottles a year. Where there is such a clear hotspot, this is where the industry needs to focus. Challenging the base assumptions that bottles need to be round and made of glass led Packamama to design the eco-flat wine bottle. *Data source - AWRI (The Australian Wine Research Institute) #wine #carbonfootprint #sustainablepackaging #packamama #AWRI #Australia

🌾🥃 Ever wondered what grain-to-glass distilling really means? In essence, it's exactly as it sounds—distilleries oversee every aspect of production, starting from sourcing the grains used to make the whisky. While some distilleries grow their own grains, others procure them from local farms nearby. These grains are then distilled on-site, and the resulting whiskey is aged and bottled right at the distillery. It's a comprehensive process that ensures complete control over quality and sustainability. To honor Earth Day, we've curated a selection of authentic grain-to-glass distilleries that prioritize their local environments as much as their whiskey. https://lnkd.in/eZ-E4fDa #earthday #whiskyadvocate #sustainability
