This past Wednesday, HAIE Executive Director Matt Friedlander & Board President Brian King got a tour of our latest completed project: An exterior renovation of the 2nd floor decking and concrete stair replacement at Operation SafeHouse's Transitional Living Program apartments. They were joined by Operation Safehouse's Co-Founder and Board Chair Amy S. Harrison & Fund Development Director Julie Hale. The 2nd floor decking and plywood underneath had rotted out and many of the concrete stairs were loose and/or broken. The stairs were replaced with new precast concrete stairs, and all the decking was replaced with new. Check out the before and after pictures. This couldn't have been made possible without the leadership of Tilden-Coil Constructors and their Operations Manager Samuel Vazquez, who took on the task of Builder Captain and managed the project. Big thank you to them along with the trade partners they brought in to do the work at a significant discount and in some cases, donated in full. HomeAid Inland Empire also raised $15,000 to assist in the project. The house is coming along nicely! There has been significant progress, which may not always be visible on the surface. Much of the construction happening beneath the brick and mortar involves gradual changes. Only Jon and everyone involved, from sourcing materials to the builders on-site—truly understand the amount of blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into getting the project this far! It is starting to look like the process is moving along swiftly, with all the layers coming together. We are looking forward to the nexT phase, where the space will be beautified with colours, fabrics, and finer details to make it a comfortable home for our residents. 😊 #moveonproject #enablinglives #holisticsupport #branchesliving #branchesresidents #homelessness #e17 #makingahome #renovationwork #constructionwork #independentliving #brickandmortar #charity #supportwork #buildingahome #jon #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #changes #projectmanagement #home #stability #maslowshierarchyofneeds #traumainformed #progress #creativity

Great way to save money for your upcoming demolition! Check out how to properly recycle your construction materials based on where you're located!
Salvaging materials from homes that are being demolished can save you money! Salvageable materials include appliances, cabinets, doors, hardwood flooring, and plumbing fixtures. Lumber from deconstructed houses can be sold or donated to reuse organizations, helping create new homes. For example, a 1910 Vancouver home’s materials were donated and its lumber was reused in a local ice cream parlour, saving $14,000 compared to traditional demolition. Thanks to Lee Jones and Professional Builder for inviting our Executive Director, Peter Bennett OBE, on to their podcast to talk about falls from height and ladder safety. Listen here > https://lnkd.in/ewkSNVwg 🎙 What did we discuss ❔ 🎙 ⚠Peter highlighted the HSE’s latest fall from height accident statistics, noting the under-reporting of workplace accidents particularly by the self-employed, while addressing why work at height is still a source of so many injuries and fatalities. 🪜He went on to outline the simple steps tradespeople can take to stay safe when using ladders; using safe equipment, carrying out a risk assessment, planning the work properly, and making sure you’re trained to use ladders safely. 🔍 Lee was keen to hear more about our ongoing ‘Step Up to Safe Ladders’ market surveillance campaign, and how our product testing has highlighted a significant number of ladders sold by some of the country’s biggest online platforms, fall well below basic safety requirements. ✅ Peter wrapped up the discussion by offering his tips for making sure builders buy safe and compliant ladders, specifically to research before you buy, check product certification, and of course, buy from a Ladder Association member! #laddersafety #workatheight
The latest episode of the Professional Builder podcast has arrived and we're talking to two organisations who are each dedicated to supporting tradespeople. There are still far too many injuries and fatalities from falls from height and the Ladder Association wants everyone who climbs a ladder to come back down safely. We talk to Peter Bennett OBE about what the non-for-profit industry body is doing to promote the safe use of portable ladders. The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is on a mission to ensure that no construction worker or their family is alone in a crisis. The organisation's new CEO, Sarah Bolton tells us what they are doing to promote the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of the trades and the charity's plans for the future. #charity #mentalhealth #healthandsafety #ladders No Falls Foundation Lorraine Brown #NoFallsWeek #builder #installer #tradespeople #contractor #constructionindustry

If you follow the news (rather than LinkedIn!) you probably heard about the major construction firm ISG, on which 2,000 staff depended for their jobs and scores of subcontractors probably thought was rock solid too - until it went into administration in September. It turned the media's focus to the number of insolvencies in construction - a figure that at face value won’t make you feel any more cheery either. But add a little more context, as the main story on the edition of The Raikes Journal linked below does, and perhaps it’s not quite so doom and gloom after all. It takes a look at the latest results from fourth generation Gloucestershire family firm E G Carter & Co Ltd - a record year with a 30-plus percent rise in turnover. Reading it might make you feel a bit more chipper heading into the weekend! The edition also has some news briefs, including news of Roberts Limbrick's attempts to win permission for McMurtry Automotive Limited's plans to build a supercar factory in the county, and word of places opening up on Gloucester-based leadership development specialists QuoLux™ - B Corp Certified's next LEAD™ and LEADlight programs - pathways used by an increasingly number of firms of all sizes in the county and beyond to develop their current and future senior teams. And lastly, if you need a story about individual achievement that will inspire you then the edition also features word of Simon Clark - a man rescued by Great Western Air Ambulance Charity following a catastrophic car crash, described as 'the most broken' they had ever seen, who lost his partner in the accident, but who has defied all odds to live again. He's vowed to raise money from now on for the charity that saved his life. Clark's ambitions are not just high for the fundraising total (£4.5 million), he's just returned from attempting to reach Everest base camp! 🤔I have a question (of course it's probably tenacious overthinking). There are many hotel flags looking at rebranding or repurposing old hotels (Spark for one). So, why aren't investors, non-profits, veteran organizations looking to do the same for housing projects (Roof Above, #HealCharlotte, #tunneltotowers) Is it because of land designation (commercial, residential only), is the cost of renovation, (exempting commercial office buildings) to building new, is it land greed of profit return. I would welcome the opinions of many on here. As stated above this question could be just tenacious overthinking!🤔

Recently, our Director of Development, Dylan Ward, spoke with CBC Maritime Noon and Patrick Crabbe from Bird Construction about the growing significance of mass timber in affordable housing projects. Our Circassian Drive project in Cole Harbour was highlighted as a standout example of incorporating low-GHG building materials into non-profit-led developments. You can check out the full interview in the link below: https://lnkd.in/eYFv2Gef.
