We are the first to witness the collapse of our ecosystems and could be the last to see their revival. We see actions on multiple fronts, but yet not scaled enough to bring back the resilience we need for the future we want. Despite much debate, misinformation, ignorance, misinterpretations, and misuse of the issue, we are failing to maintain the integrity of our ecosystems. While there are significant financial flows benefiting people and organizations, it is not delivering strong and widespread outcomes which are substantial enough to address the core issue. This year’s World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan "Our Land. Our Future. We are #GenerationRestoration." As we embark on the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), we need to scale up our actions to restore and protect both degraded and intact ecosystems. The science is very clear! We are falling short of the Sustainable Development Agenda, the Paris Climate Targets, and have overstepped many planetary boundaries. Co-developed by the @Global Covenant of Mayors, @UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) & @Melbourne Centre for Cities, this comprehensive report consolidates breakthrough insights from #I4C24, where nearly 2,000 experts met to advance sustainable urban transformations. 🔍 Core advancements include: ➜ An updated Global Research & Action Agenda on Cities and Climate Change Science (GRAA) ➜ A holistic, inclusive, and ambitious digital transformation - as seen at the AI x City Climate Action Hackathon - identifying pathways to unlock the data, evidence, and interdisciplinary partnerships needed to convert climate plans into action implementation ➜ The Climate Innovation Readiness Navigator for Cities and Local Governments (CIRN), a methodology developed in partnership with @Arup to help cities enhance their readiness to engage each other in innovative climate action. 🌍 The MAIA project is working to create case studies and best practices for regional #climateadaptation. That’s why we presented a poster at the Third Forum on the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change. Our presenter was Maria J. Sanz Sanchez, Scientific Director at the BC3 - Basque Centre for Climate Change and coordinator of the MAIA project. NATALIE: Accelerating and mainstreaming Nature-Based Solutions..! As the urgency to address societal challenges grows, Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are playing a pivotal role in enhancing climate resilience. However, emerging issues require closer attention to unlock the full potential of NBS. The NATALIE project is supporting EU regions in building climate resilience. By focusing on three critical areas - technological and scientific innovation, financial strategies, and societal engagement - NATALIE aims to deliver transformative and sustainable solutions for climate adaptation across Europe.

📢 Help us unlock Nature's potential! Nature-based Solutions (NbS) offer promise for tackling climate change, but what's holding them back? The BiodivClim Knowledge Hub is seeking input from experts and practitioners on the challenges encountered when implementing NbS, especially for climate adaptation and mitigation. Why participate? • Your insights will help us capture the key barriers and enablers for NbS implementation across diverse contexts. • By identifying shared and unique challenges, we can ensure our research informs practical solutions across fields. • We value active engagement with practitioners to bridge the gap between research and real-world application. The survey findings will inform both an upcoming paper and a potential best-practice guide to support stakeholders in future NbS endeavours.
