Good news, grantwriting is not about getting it ‘right’! A client of mine was working on a NIH K grant and started the session saying she felt overwhelmed. She had to rework the significance section and she felt stuck on writing Aim 1. ‘Am I doing this right?’ was on a loop in her mind. As a result, she was easily distracted, not getting much writing done, and believing she wouldn't be able to finish the grant. What if the goal wasn't to get it right? Here me out: we perfectionists think we need to get it right, so we slow down because we don't like how the messy middle feels. But the messy middle is necessary to get to a final product. In that call, I helped my client see that her next step was to write now and revise later. Let it be messy until it isn't. She was able to use that as a reminder and get more done each day while getting plenty of rest and exercise. She submitted the K grant on time too!! In Make Internal Shifts, I help my clients get grants. This example is how I support them when it gets overwhelming. Overwhelm shows up in a lot of ways. And my framework addresses all of them. Even yours. Beyond overwhelm, I help my clients with the entire process from idea to submission. We work on: - Pacing the work over months so you have contingencies for illness and room for vacation - Writing logical and compelling research so you appeal to reviewers - Assembling a support system so you can minimize blind spots and strengthen the quality of your proposal If you are a woman in academic research who wants a grant in 2025 and seeking help in making it happen, DM me and we can connect on how I can help you.

"The logical structures implicit in an educated person's mind are highly systematized. The well-educated person is able to reason quite directly and deliberately, to begin somewhere, know where one is beginning, and then reason with awareness from that point to other points, all within a given question in mind, with specific evidence in mind, with specific reasons to advance, with specific conclusions to support, with consciousness of one's point of view and of contrasting points of view. The good reasoner is always reasoning within a system that disciplines and restrains that reasoning. When the logical structures by which a mind figures out the world are confused, a jumble, a hodgepodge, a mere conglomeration, then that figuring out is radically defective, typically in any of a variety of ways: incomplete, inaccurate, distorted, muddied, inexact, superficial, rigid, inconsistent, and unproductive." ~Richard Paul in "Why Students – and Teachers – Don't Reason Well" For the full article, start a free trial in the Center for Critical Thinking Community Online, the world's largest digital repository of critical thinking activities, literature, videos, and more: https://lnkd.in/ggSbtYRA

Navigating the Academic Shakeout: Funding Academia by Building a Grant Culture “Navigating the Academic Shakeout: Funding Academia by Building a Grant Culture” is a comprehensive look at building a successful, competitive, and sustainable grant culture. With traditional academic financial sources disappearing, this book provides crucial knowledge by which faculty can foster self-sufficiency through effective grantsmanship. It provides the best opportunity to enhance resources, develop programs, and enrich student experiences. “Navigating” is more than the simple step-by-step guide. It is a playbook for the grant landscape, easily customizable to any context without underplaying the depth required for establishing a robust attitude toward grant pursuit. Topics include ideation, finding solicitations, constructing collaborations and partnerships, creating a convincing concept paper, pulling together supporting documentation, setting the stage for successful grant administration, and building a sustainable campus grant culture that fosters future endeavors, among others. As consultants, Fiorini and Associates’ philosophy is to provide you what you need to be successful in the pursuit of grant funding. A definite model of cooperation across the academic landscape in a State to help in the countless number of grants available in post-disaster recovery for communities impacted by disasters. A brilliant way to harness the capacity at the universities to ensure no community is left behind in the long road to recovery.

Discover the Magic Formula to Clinch Research Grants with the OSCARS Framework Ever puzzled over why some research grants are given the nod, whilst others get left in the dust? It's more than just the big idea - it’s the presentation that counts. Having been on both sides of the grant game, winning and reviewing, I've unlocked the mystery. The trick? Focus on the proposal summary - this is where magic happens. Introducing the OSCARS framework - your map to crafting compelling proposals that grab attention from the get-go. 🎯 **Overarching Aim** - Begin with a bang. One powerful sentence to encapsulate your project's mission. 🌍 **Situation** - Paint the picture. Lay out the broad strokes of your project's context, highlighting its pivotal role. 🚧 **Challenge** - Showcase the obstacle. Clearly define the challenge your project aims to conquer, emphasising the significance of your research. 🏃♀️ **Action** - Your game plan. Detail the steps you'll take to jump the hurdles, outlining the methods to achieve your objectives. ⏳ **Research Need** - Convey urgency. Argue persuasively why your project demands immediate attention. 🌟 **Societal Impact** - Think wider. Demonstrate how your research will benefit various stakeholders, underlining its far-reaching implications. The OSCARS framework is more than a mere tool; it's your ace in the hole. By meticulously sculpting your proposal around these key elements, you're not merely proposing a research project. You're weaving a narrative that commands support. #phd #postdoc #academia #professor #grantwriting 🔄 repost to help a friend :) -------------------- Unlock the secret to funding success!
