Ever been glad to own a hoodie? Or steal one from a boyfriend? (That is actual theft, by the way, ladies!) Well, did you know you've got one particular sportswear brand to thank for that? (See end of post for explanation👇🏼📌)
Possibly my favourite sportswear brand ever (I grew up watching American 80's movies 📼, the brand was hard to come by in Ireland 🇮🇪, and everything just looked so cool), Champion is making waves this summer with major strategic moves that cement its legacy and pave the way for future growth.
🫱🏻🫲🏽 The brand is set to join the portfolio of Authentic Brands Group, enabling it to expand its global footprint and leverage ABG’s brand-building expertise.
🛍️ It launched an exclusive concession at Selfridges London a couple of weeks ago, showcasing its most elevated products.
🏈🏀🌭🍻 And, in a slick nod to its sports heritage, Champion is transforming Harry Gordon’s Bar & Kitchen (also in Selfridges) into a sports-themed bar for two months. This takeover will immerse customers in a nostalgic journey through sports history, perfectly timed with 2024's stacked summer of sport.
I’d love to see them make a move into elite level European football kit supply in the coming years. And the noise surrounding Nike at present isn’t exactly ideal…
Imagine Paris Saint-Germain x Champion…⚽️🏆

📌 Champion produced the first hooded sweatshirt in 1934 for the University of Michigan. It was known as a “sideline” garment and was designed for keeping warm between active periods.
