With more than half the world's population lacking essential health services, PhD students and researchers from Coventry University are developing innovative digital solutions to widen access to healthcare in poorer countries. PhD students Luh Haryanthi, Sri Sari Padma, and Ainul Mardiah are being supported by researchers from the university’s Research Centre for Intelligent Healthcare - Coventry University and its digital health social enterprise spin-out, Hope 4 The Community CIC (H4C), to create digital health technologies for Indonesia, which can also be applied elsewhere. The initiative utilises data and H4C’s cutting-edge software solutions to develop self-management programmes that support patients battling critical health issues like cancer and schizophrenia. Facing new pandemics keeps being a topic of high interest around the globe. Since yesterday leading scientists from #academia and #industry together with public funders and representatives from ministries and the European Commission as well as international organisations such as #WHO are gathering in Antwerp to talk about things such as “lessons learnt from the COVID-19 #pandemic” and “#preparedness” and alike. Yes, COVID has left us with many questions, challenges and tasks. But these are also opportunities to prepare for any health challenges and to face them with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Many things have happened since then. And the increased awareness alone has greatly changed the approach to the topic. In a few minutes the session on “European collaboration on clinical trials” will start, Markus Zeitlinger being part of the working session. We are looking forward to inspiring discussions, ideas and moments. #clinicalpharmacology #FutureOfScience #PandemicPreparedness https://lnkd.in/dRK9CzDf

During the conference "One Health – Research & Innovation at the Crossroads of Environment and Health," FEAM President Prof. Stefan Constantinescu discussed how the European Commission addresses complex health issues and sources unbiased scientific advice. Prof. Constantinescu explained that the European Commission relies on European national academies of sciences, medicine, and engineering for expert guidance. These academies collaborate with the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to produce detailed reports on topics like cancer screening and One Health governance. This collaborative approach ensures that the Commission's decisions are rooted in robust scientific evidence and encourage cross-border cooperation. Given the EU's significant role in global health, Prof. Constantinescu's presentation highlighted the importance of evidence-based policy and international collaboration. Webinar: Missing Nordic Trials: how can we avoid research waste, and meet ethical standards? A total of 475 clinical studies completed in Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, and Sweden between 2016 and 2019 have never published their results in any form. A total of 83,903 people participated in these studies, according to public records. The report, prepared by an international group of 39 researchers, was released on February 6, 2024. It showed that across all five countries, 22% of all clinical study results were never published. There are large differences in reporting performance between institutions. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/d_6Eib58. On March 15 at 10 AM, Cochrane Norway, the Cochrane People, Health Systems, and Public Health Thematic Group, Cochrane Sweden, Cochrane Denmark, Evidence-Based Research Network, and the Section of Evidence-Based Practice in Health Care at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences invite you to a webinar about the report. The report will be presented by co-author Jan-Ole Hesselberg from the Dam Foundation. The webinar will be held in English. zoom link on: https://lnkd.in/dBX9NQcj
