"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going." A major concern for many refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp is hunger and malnutrition. Climate change is a major factor in food security, inflation in the economy, famine, and rising food costs. Few people have completely depended on growing fresh vegetables in their kitchen gardens and farming alongside seasonal riverbeds to make ends meet. About 75% of the refugees in the Kakuma Refugee Camp are entirely dependent on these farms and fresh veggies; they don't worry too much about diet since they think that these difficult times have given them the survival instincts. #envisioninghumanity #Resilience #ClimateChange #ClimateAction UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency FilmAid Kenya InterNation, Inc. 🌍💧 Challenges in #Kakuma Refugee Camp ⛈ Recent heavy rains in Kakuma, #Kenya led to unexpected #flooding, impacting residents traveling between Kakuma 1 and 2. Among those affected were students, one of whom was nearly swept away by strong currents but was rescued by a classmate. They had to wait until the next day, when the waters subsided, to safely cross. This video was shot by Last Mile Climate's Communication Officer Ayuen Isaac☂ William, a student at Napata Secondary School, shares the devastating effects on #education: "Many students are now forced to transfer to other secondary schools like Kakuma Refugee Secondary School (KRSS), as their classrooms have been destroyed by the heavy rains, and they face the additional challenge of overcrowded schools." 🏫📚 ⚡ This event highlights the daily challenges faced by residents, emphasizing the need for improved infrastructure and planning in #refugee settings. 🏘 #ClimateResilience #RefugeeSupport #ClimateChange #SustainableDevelopment #HumanitarianAid #CommunitySafety #FloodPrevention #EnvironmentalAwareness #EmergencyResponse #ResilienceBuilding #WeatherImpact #GlobalWarming

𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement continues to receive new arrivals from Sudan. As these refugees adapt to their new environment, they are encouraged to engage in productive activities like farming. However, they face challenges such as a lack of seeds and farming tools to fully benefit from agriculture. Global Refugee Initiatives (GRI) is working to reduce the impact of conflict through our livelihoods and economic empowerment programs. We provide new refugee groups with high-quality vegetable seeds and farm tools to support their production efforts. This support is especially timely as farmers prepare their fields for the upcoming rainy season in Kiryandongo District. Let's all join hands in supporting this noble cause. #RefugeeSupport #FarmingForHope #EconomicEmpowerment #SustainableAgriculture #GRI #CommunityResilience

🌍World Refugee Day: Climate Change and Migration🌍 Each year, an average of 21.5 million people are forcibly displaced by weather-related events such as floods, wildfires, cyclones, and extreme weather temperatures. Climate migration is expected to surge in the coming decades, with approximately 1.2 billion people being displaced globally by 2050 due to climate change and natural disasters. Zimbabwe is currently experiencing severe drought conditions, compromising most crops of the 2024 farming season and threatening millions with hunger. These harsh conditions have forced some to migrate within the country and abroad, in search of sufficient rainfall, rich soils, and good pastures for livestock. World Refugee Day is celebrated annually to highlight the rights, needs, and dreams of those forced to flee their homes. Today, let's stand in solidarity with refugees by: 🔹 Supporting young refugees in pursuing higher education through sponsorships 🔹 Backing programs that slow the effects of climate change 🔹 Learning about the relationship between climate change and poverty 🔹 Reducing our carbon footprint 🔹 Donating to emergency appeals 🔹 Together, we can make a difference. #ClimateChange #WorldRefugeeDay #Refugees #20June #Climatemigration

Here's an interesting joint study that highlights the severe impacts of #drought and #climatechange on displacement in #Ethiopia and #Somalia. As environmental conditions worsen, many communities are forced to move in search of water, food, and livelihood opportunities. ⌛️ Addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts to support both displaced populations and those at risk of #displacement, ensuring resilience and adaptation strategies are in place.💡 📚 Learn more about the findings 👉https://lnkd.in/dCR-rdh7 Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp IOM - UN Migration #Migration #Resilience #Sustainability

Dr. Hossein Safari AMAZON , Don’t destroy AMAZON Our forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Over the past few decades, we've witnessed the devastating impact of deforestation, with millions of acres of lush, vibrant ecosystems being cleared for various purposes. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. Humanitarian efforts in Bangladesh necessitate non-food items (NFI), particularly to support disaster-prone regions or refugee camps. The provision of essential utilities, like as sanitation and shelter, to underprivileged populations relies significantly on NGOs. Efforts aimed at enhancing impact concentrate on efficient logistics, local resource accessibility, and a gender-sensitive strategy are emphasized. Collaborative efforts among local stakeholders and new delivery techniques may yield sustainable and commendable support. #HumanitarianAid #NFIAssistance #Bangladesh #NGOSector #SustainableDevelopmentGoals #SustainableCities #ClimateAction #DisasterRelief #RefugeeSupport

There is a strong link with forced displacement and land degradation. Almost 60ha of land is lost every day to land degradation, and for each square meter degrading there is a socioeconomic impact on the people depending on the resources on that piece of land. When they lost it, they lost survival and often get forced into conflict or exposed to hasards and disasters that cause them to flee. This very vital report by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency highlights the urgency in strengthening responses and inclusive solutions at all levels. As a response, we are Planting One Billion Trees for Africa to achieve #GreatGreenWall and restore the #Sahel is our priority. If we restore the land, people will earn a stable living in their own space and live a peaceful life devoid of conflicts over declining resources, and are less vulnerable to climate disasters. #Forcedtoflee #ForcedDisplacement #food #income #landrights #DRR #resilience #land #restoration
