"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going." A major concern for many refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp is hunger and malnutrition. Climate change is a major factor in food security, inflation in the economy, famine, and rising food costs. Few people have completely depended on growing fresh vegetables in their kitchen gardens and farming alongside seasonal riverbeds to make ends meet. About 75% of the refugees in the Kakuma Refugee Camp are entirely dependent on these farms and fresh veggies; they don't worry too much about diet since they think that these difficult times have given them the survival instincts. #envisioninghumanity #Resilience #ClimateChange #ClimateAction UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency FilmAid Kenya InterNation, Inc. Today and everyday, Young Volunteers for Environment stands in solidarity with refugees Did you know that according to the Groundswell report of the World Bank in 2050, there should be 216 millions of environmental refugees worldwide, with millions more facing uncertainty everyday. This same report estimates that Sub-Saharan Africa could register up to 86 millions of internal climate refugees due to drought. This #worldRefugeeDay, we are reminded that refugees are not just statistics, they're people who have been forced to flee their homes. As we stand in solidarity with refugees, we're reminding that every person deserves a safe space and haven. In this spirit, reducing the number of refugees implies a national and international action; support green, resilient and inclusive development, building infrastructures and basic services to meet environmental challenges and more importantly, develop environmentally-friendly economic activities. Let's ensure a greener and more resilient future for all. #worldrefugeeday

🌍World Refugee Day: Climate Change and Migration🌍 Each year, an average of 21.5 million people are forcibly displaced by weather-related events such as floods, wildfires, cyclones, and extreme weather temperatures. Climate migration is expected to surge in the coming decades, with approximately 1.2 billion people being displaced globally by 2050 due to climate change and natural disasters. Zimbabwe is currently experiencing severe drought conditions, compromising most crops of the 2024 farming season and threatening millions with hunger. These harsh conditions have forced some to migrate within the country and abroad, in search of sufficient rainfall, rich soils, and good pastures for livestock. World Refugee Day is celebrated annually to highlight the rights, needs, and dreams of those forced to flee their homes. Today, let's stand in solidarity with refugees by: 🔹 Supporting young refugees in pursuing higher education through sponsorships 🔹 Backing programs that slow the effects of climate change 🔹 Learning about the relationship between climate change and poverty 🔹 Reducing our carbon footprint 🔹 Donating to emergency appeals 🔹 Together, we can make a difference. #ClimateChange #WorldRefugeeDay #Refugees #20June #Climatemigration

🌍 Today is World Refugee Day, a day to reflect on the challenges faced by refugees around the world and how we can help. Growing refugee numbers in #Uganda can impact the environment. Why? When families need to eat, they cut wood to cook 🍳 causing deforestation 🌳❌ But there’s hope. By supporting families like Blandina's with energy-efficient stoves 🍳, we can make a difference for both people and the planet. Discover how these innovative solutions are protecting our environment and providing sustainable living for refugees 👇 #GRF2023 #WorldRefugeeDay #SustainableLiving #EnvironmentalImpact #WFP #Uganda

Here's an interesting joint study that highlights the severe impacts of #drought and #climatechange on displacement in #Ethiopia and #Somalia. As environmental conditions worsen, many communities are forced to move in search of water, food, and livelihood opportunities. ⌛️ Addressing these challenges requires coordinated efforts to support both displaced populations and those at risk of #displacement, ensuring resilience and adaptation strategies are in place.💡 📚 Learn more about the findings 👉https://lnkd.in/dCR-rdh7 Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp IOM - UN Migration #Migration #Resilience #Sustainability

There is a strong link with forced displacement and land degradation. Almost 60ha of land is lost every day to land degradation, and for each square meter degrading there is a socioeconomic impact on the people depending on the resources on that piece of land. When they lost it, they lost survival and often get forced into conflict or exposed to hasards and disasters that cause them to flee. This very vital report by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency highlights the urgency in strengthening responses and inclusive solutions at all levels. As a response, we are Planting One Billion Trees for Africa to achieve #GreatGreenWall and restore the #Sahel is our priority. If we restore the land, people will earn a stable living in their own space and live a peaceful life devoid of conflicts over declining resources, and are less vulnerable to climate disasters. #Forcedtoflee #ForcedDisplacement #food #income #landrights #DRR #resilience #land #restoration

In collaboration with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), we are prioritizing Maiduguri neighborhoods for mapping based on several key criteria: 1️⃣ Flood extent analysis: we focus on areas that overlap with the flood extent identified by UNOSAT, targeting the worst-affected areas. 2️⃣ Humanitarian cartographers' priority points: areas containing priority points shared by humanitarian cartographers are prioritized to meet urgent needs. 3️⃣ Nigerian Red Cross contribution: We take into account areas highlighted by the Nigerian Red Cross, ensuring that our efforts are aligned with their ongoing operations. 4️⃣ Avoiding duplication: Finally, we prioritize areas that are not already mapped or in the process of being mapped by volunteers, thus optimizing resource allocation. By following these criteria, we ensure that our mapping efforts effectively meet the needs of affected communities. . . . #NigeriaFlooding #AidForNigeria #OpenStreetMap #WNAH #HOT #Communitymapping #TogetherForABrightFuture
