I was in such a rush and didn't share this piece before. We have such a misconception of who should be involved in data science and AI. My answer to that most of us who touch the data, who develop social and economical models with that data. The algorithms are not black magic just tools to make data speak!! I am so pleased that my dear friend Ayca Ariyoruk was able to join us and provide deep insights on how we should rethink about #datascience & #ai. We were in such a rush to get to data science in 10-ish years and now we are rushing to generative AI (aka. fancy chatbots). It is great to rush; but, we need to think holistically from the computation to social aspects of data science and AI. I was reading an article about a META researcher demanding 100 high performing GPUs to join a startup. For this startup to get this much of a high performing GPU takes time and money. This is a big financial undertaking and once they get to the point to effort it it will be too late to be innovative. This is a social dilemma that we are. Bottomline is that we need to include more people and give chances to more startups to be innovative. AI is still in its infancy and we need more players in the field!! We are featuring women trailblazers Cecily Herzig , Ayca Ariyoruk and Rachel Sickler to cover a wide range of topics in Data Science.. Join us, come and go, show your support https://lnkd.in/edFGjUrd #wids2024 .. We are an independent group supporting rural innovations and women's position in the rural development.

#InTheMedia: At the Delhi leg of #ICTforAg, Dr. Sheetal Sharma, IRRI Senior Soil Scientist and Work Package Lead for the CGIAR Digital Innovation Initiative, highlighted the pivotal role of ICT in closing the gender gap in agriculture. “Women can contribute to making better decisions when they are equipped with improved knowledge. Bringing that context-specific knowledge in a language they can understand, through a platform that they can easily access, and bringing their capacity on using these devices will be a key step into empowering women farmers through the use of ICT.” Watch here: https://bit.ly/4bHvnbb

I'm happy I joined the discussion panel about making money from sharing data/services in the FAME project. During the panel and the symposium, we saw that the real problem is spreading knowledge. We have the technology, but companies need to understand the value of their data. We need to help them see how their data can become profitable without losing ownership. I believe we should focus less on just the data and more on the services that can come from it. This will help us overcome the issues we talked about, like companies saying: "We have loads of data but don't know what to do with it." "We have too much data and not enough people to manage it." Instead, we should ask, "What valuable services can you offer with your data?" These services could include things like analysis, AI,LLM,ML, synthetic data, or using data for different purposes. It's important that the data and services meet high standards, follow European rules, and ensure fair treatment of the owners. To do this, we need common rules and "language" (semantic and syntactic) for using data and DataSpaces can help with this. This is, for me, our main challenge.
