“The key aim of a negotiation is to reach a mutually beneficial agreement that satisfies the interests and needs of all parties involved. Effective negotiation involves open communication, understanding each party's priorities, and finding common ground to create value and ensure a fair outcome. The goal is not only to achieve an immediate resolution but also to build and maintain positive, long-term relationships” Intelligent Buyer CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Government Commercial Function IoD Northern Ireland. #negotiation #procurement #commercial #supplychain

Negotiation The first thought when you say negotiation in Procurement is sitting across the table from a supplier, negotiating a contract worth millions. However, negotiations come in all sizes and scopes, from Terms & Conditions on a purchase order, through renewals and scopes of service, right up to major contracts and agreements. True, there is an element of soft skills involved in how to manage the communications and the people, but the overall negotiation process can be learned and improved through experience. ❝A simple tip to help Procurement with their Stakeholders!❞ --- In my role as Head of Procurement, I noticed many years ago that when I included my internal stakeholders in my negotiation courses (I was just beginning to deliver them in-house at the time), they began involving me more in supplier discussions sooner! The Utilisation of Open Tendering One of the primary benefits of using open tendering is that it offers an equal opportunity for all suppliers to participate in the procurement process. This encourages maximum participation from suppliers and ensures that the organisation receives competitive bids. The open and transparent nature of the process also reduces the risk of corruption or favouritism. However, it must be emphasised that open tendering is often believed to be biased towards the least-cost option. This is only sometimes the case and depends on the scoring criterion used to judge the suitability of suppliers' tender submissions. Where price is not the primary concern of a potential requirements solution, the tender's price/quality scoring ratio must be carefully considered to find a balance that best meets the organisation's needs. Open tendering is a fair, transparent, and competitive procurement process that offers equal opportunity to all suppliers. It encourages innovation and leads to cost savings for the organisation and technological advancements for the industry. Organisations should consider the price/quality balance that best meets their needs to ensure an open tender process is fair and unbiased. Simply opting for the lowest-cost option may not necessarily be the best award decision within a tender, as it may compromise the quality of the product or service an organisation receives. By weighing the award of a tender based on the price against quality to best meet the organisation's requirements, organisations can make an informed, cost-effective decision that meets their needs without the result of a tender being driven solely or predominantly by cost alone. ©️ Procurement and Supply Chain Management Made Simple. What do I know about UK public sector procurement - a lot more after recording this podcast. Give it a listen. #cips #publicsector #procurement #ojeu #purchasing #publicsectorprocurement #procurementsaysno #procurementpeople
Procurement Says No Ep 18 The Procurement Act Rich and Ed explore the strange and wonderful world of Public Procurement with the Procurement Act 2023. We are “deep diving” into what it’s all about with special guests Graeme Hunter and Verity White and asking questions such as: What is it and why? What are the differences compared with PCR 2015? Will it encourage SMEs? What’s the new system going to be like? What is a Dynamic Markets process? Will it create a new best practice and does it encourage or stifle competition? We have conclusive proof. Is there a reduction in bureaucracy or even more than ever? Is it all about to change or be postponed anyway? We’ve also got a little bit of procurement news and plenty of fun and japes. It might all sound a bit heavy and technical, but don’t worry because we’re not. If you’re a Public Procurement person in the UK – listen in and learn; and if you’re not – listen in and see how lucky you are not to be a Public Procurement person. Some say these rules encourage fairness, prevent corruption and provide a clear audit trail; and some say they limit speed, innovation, efficiency and supplier involvement. Which side are you on? It’s on most podplaces….here it is on Spreaker… https://lnkd.in/e6TdVYhX Verity White Graeme Hunter Kieran McGaughey CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Procurement Tactics Procurement & Supply Chain LIVE
