Colorado Health Trends and Functional Medicine's Role in Prevention Colorado's health landscape is evolving, with improving youth mental health and a growing focus on holistic care. However, challenges remain with an aging population and concerns about nutrition and exercise among youth. Functional medicine is emerging as a key player in preventative health, offering: 1. Personalized care tailored to individual needs 2. A holistic approach addressing mind, body, and spirit 3. Strong emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle factors 4. Preventative strategies to detect issues early This patient-centered approach focuses on identifying root causes of diseases, making it particularly effective in managing and preventing chronic conditions. As Colorado prioritizes health and wellness, functional medicine stands out as a powerful tool for building healthier communities and a more sustainable healthcare system. #FunctionalMedicine #PreventativeHealth #ColoradoHealth #HolisticCare What's your experience with functional medicine? New research points to the critical link between health sciences and the arts and highlights the lack of targeted organisational support that promotes the benefits in many other nations. The research from Alex Cothren, Joanna Arciuli and DASSH member Tully Barnett at Flinders University was published in The Conversation Australia + NZ this week. As part of the project, the team interviewed arts and health organisations employees from all over the world. The research highlights a multitude of health benefits of the creative arts but finds that of all the nations surveyed Australia is the only country that lacks a national arts and health organisation. “Currently, arts and health research and practice is taking place across Australia in hospitals, community arts spaces, and universities. But while there are a number of regional networks, there is no central hub for the field. “As a result, interviewees from Australia say a national organisation is needed for arts and health to take the next step.” While the benefits are highlighted in research, some interviewees pointed to the importance of narrative and lived experience in highlighting the true value of the arts in health contexts. It’s great to see the significant role the arts play in delivering on Australia’s research priorities highlighted. Meet the #WIL Fellow! Ria Maharaj Public Health California State University - East Bay Ria Maharaj, a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Department of Public Health, is currently engaged as a research assistant in multiple studies focusing on under-represented South Asian communities. Her primary interest lies in her own Indo-Fijian community, as it is considered a diaspora. Ria aspires to become a practicing Physician Assistant, with a keen appreciation for community outreach and a desire to forge personal connections with community members. Presently interning at Hume, a behavioral wellness clinic, Ria takes an active role in hosting workshops tailored for the South Asian community. These sessions aim to initiate open conversations about mental health and emotional well-being without judgment, reflecting her commitment to fostering understanding and support within her community. About Ria's Social Impact Project at WIL- Home health care agencies are organizations that provide a wide range of medical and non-medical services to individuals in their own homes. These services are typically provided to people who are elderly, disabled, chronically ill, or recovering from illness or surgery and who need assistance with activities of daily living. Home health care agencies employ a variety of healthcare professionals, including nurses, therapists, aides, and social workers, who deliver care tailored to the specific needs of each client Care Indeed is one of the many Home Health agencies that they provide such resources to a diverse group of clients. Many home health care agencies make commitments in supporting their seniors as well as thier families to the best of the agencies abilities, however what remains unknown is just how accurately agencies live up to the expectations that are essentially made about their services to both clients and loved ones. This spring Ria became Care Indeed’s Research Analyst in search of finding out, what does quality mean to clients and how well has Care Indeed met those expectations. Our data from across 3 Integrated Care System Regions showed that only 4% of #kidney #research studies included adaptations to improve ethnic #diversity in #ClinicalTrials.. Yesterday was International or World Clinical Trials Day. A day designed to mark the first randomised trial and the importance of this type of #research for developments in care that optimise #prevention, #identification and #management of #healthissues. Over the past 6 months we’ve been fortunate to have #NHSEngland #funding to look at 5 years of research studies on #kidneydisease undertaken in primary and secondary care. Focusing on 3 ICS regions, after screening over 142 studies reporting data on a total of 11,240 #patients, we found that only 6% made adjustments that broaden #engagement from #underserved communities. This reduced to 4% when looking at #clinicaltrials #data only. Why does this matter? People experience the same health condition in very different ways. To improve #equity in relevance of #evidence from trials and other types of research , it’s important to include the diversity of people intended to benefit. Still a long way to go but we hope to #influence #infrastructure and #capacity to support #inclusive research prioritisation, design, funding, and implementation. #healthservice #healthservicesresearch #healthresearch #chronickidneydisease #kidneydisease #kidneyfailure #researchdesign #researchfunding #lifeofaresearcher #highereducation #healthinnovation #clinicaltrial #underserved #divesity #healthequity #healthinequalities #underrepresentation #equalitydiversityinclusion Sunil Daga Paula Ormandy Fez Awan Phillip Smith Aston University Aston Business School University of Hertfordshire

🏃♂️ While physical activity (PA) interventions for older adults work wonders in controlled settings, making them a reality in everyday life is a whole different ball game. Study by Dr. Janet Boekhout, Mrs. Rieteke Hut, Dr. Jannique van Uffelen, Dr. Gesa Czwikla, and Dr. Denise Peels explores the challenges and opportunities of implementing PA programs for seniors, based on interviews with 31 key stakeholders. What did they find? Collaboration is key! From the complexity and costs of programs to the needs and beliefs of older adults, there are hurdles to jump over—but also plenty of motivators. 👵👴 Stakeholders view PA as a path to broader health benefits but stress the need to align programs with older adults' unique needs and goals. https://lnkd.in/g7hNqEut #ActiveAging #PhysicalActivity #HealthyLiving KU Leuven University of Bremen Open Universiteit Open Universiteit - Gezondheidspsychologie
