Happy International Women’s Day! Today, I chose to put the spotlight on a woman I believe is embodying the theme for this year’s celebration. Her name is Clar Rosso ! Clar doesn't just talk the talk; she works the talk. Her dedication to inclusion shines especially through game-changing initiatives like the 1Million challenge which gave new cybersecurity entrants a stamp on their skills with the Certified in Cybersecurity certification by ISC2. Clar was very intentional in ensuring women were included by working with women focused groups like the CyberGirls Fellowship, Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) , Women + Cybersecurity = Women's Society of Cyberjutsu to understand what we need to have our communities be part of the challenge. Given our feedback, CyberGirls Fellowship through the ISC2’s Center for Cyber Safety and Education received additional support in the form of vouchers to cover the Annual Maintenance Fee (AMF). This ensured that our fellows who passed the exam didn’t have to worry about the $50 fee. We also received funding to support girls who needed it the most to travel to proctor centers for their certification exam. This is a shinning example of how investing in women to accelerate progress, should be done and your leadership enabled this to happen at scale and so I and the rest of my team celebrates you today. When I first stepped into the cybersecurity community, I felt like a fish out of water. As a female in a male-dominated tech industry, those initial moments were intimidating – almost like being a small puppet in a big show. But here's what I learned: growth happens one step at a time. I started by observing. Then learning. Then observing some more. Conferences became my classroom, where each product demo and presentation added another piece to my puzzle. Soon, I realised something powerful – my existing skills were more valuable than I'd thought. They weren't just transferable; they were essential. Finding My Tribe The real game-changer? Community. Through AWSN - Australian Women in Security Network and Tangible Uplift Program (TUP) I found a network of incredible women across the nation who made cybersecurity feel like home. They transformed what could have been an intimidating journey into something I genuinely look forward to. My background spans manufacturing, mining, engineering, defense, and aviation. What seemed like a scattered path at first turned into my greatest strength. The transition from digital transformation to cybersecurity wasn't just logical – it was natural. Building Bridges The beauty of this community? It's not about gender. I've found incredible male allies who champion growth and women who've become both mentors and friends. Those industry events I once dreaded; Now they're reunions I can't wait to attend. Looking Forward To those starting their journey: yes, it might feel overwhelming at first. But there's a place for you here. Your unique perspective isn't a limitation – it's your superpower. One element that makes the Innotech, Cyversity - Austin, TX Chapter - Career Accelerator event possible and productive is the effective activation of public-private partnerships. Look at some of the organizations our volunteer counselors, coaches, and mentors represent. Silicon Labs, HITCH PARTNERS, Austin Community College, Q2 FBI Cyber Division, Marvell Technology, Blackbaud, Silicon Valley Cyber, Texas Mutual Insurance Company, Dell Technologies, BalkanID and Activision to name drop a few names. Not to mention the organizations represented by our chapter leadership. Google, Marqeta, Netskope, SailPoint, Monad, Cyber Security Simplified, Austin, Brooklyn Associates, and Austin Independent School District. Cyversity is rapidly becoming the go-to organization for effectively and efficiently addressing diversity in our industry. Cyversity is relational and engages cyber enthusiasts from early stage to public-private board engagement. Reflecting on Growth It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since I penned down my first heartfelt post, expressing gratitude to Confidence Staveley and the CyberSafe Foundation for unlocking my potential in #cybersecurity. The #pursuit, marked by ups and downs, has been nothing short of transformative. "This journey has been incredibly tough, pushing me to new limits I never thought possible. It has shown me the strength and resilience within myself." These words, written a year ago, resonate even more deeply today. Back then, I thought the #challenges would ease with #time, but I've come to realize that #growth doesn't mean things get easier—it means we get stronger. As I reflect on the International Girls in ICT Day, I'm reminded of the incredible journey of growth over the past year. Every obstacle, every setback, has only fueled my #determination to climb higher. And looking back, I'm proud to see how far I've come. This girl has grown, learned, and evolved in ways she never imagined possible.
