Ever wondered what lies beneath the waves at world-class sailing events? Our eDNA technology is helping uncover the marine life hiding beneath the SailGP race locations worldwide! From detections of endangered hogfish in Bermuda to unexpected humpback whale DNA, we're helping Deutsche Bank gain crucial insights into ocean biodiversity to support conservation efforts, together with its partners the Whale and Dolphin Conservation and SailGP. But this project isn't just about discovery – it's a powerful example of connecting finance to environmental stewardship. In SailGP races, teams compete not just for the race podium, but also for the Impact League Podium. This innovative approach rewards positive environmental and social contributions, proving it's not just about racing boats - it's about racing to protect our oceans. This project showcases how finance and science can unite for environmental stewardship. Because a healthy economy depends on a healthy environment meaning financial leadership goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility. At NatureMetrics we look forward to continuing our work with Deutsche Bank bank and Markus H.-P. Müller, setting new standards in the finance industry.

e-Zee Tigers! Or should that be ESG Tigers? E-Zee has been proudly sporting our ESG mark since gaining accreditation in 2023. It's the summer solstace, and we’ve been thinking a lot about the Environment aspect lately. Not purely because I’m an endangered species (although how ashamed of ourselves should we be about that?) but generally about our impact on the planet. What will we do as a business, and as individuals, to make a difference? We will share our progress, thoughts and ideas with you here from time to time and we’d love you to do the same. After all, the phrase “we’re all in it together” has never been more relevant. #netzero #ESG #environment

ESG & ART A film that shows that failure to include ecological and social impacts in investment decisions leads to losses rather than gains. It also shows how the company's good governance practices were weak.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 '𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐛 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭' 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲? My 'lightbulb moment' came while working in the construction industry, where I became aware of the environmental impact of our practices. This realisation drove me to pursue IEMA qualifications, ultimately becoming a Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP). These qualifications not only expanded my understanding but also enabled me to implement practical sustainability measures into everyday operations, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As Chief Operating Officer (COO), I've had the opportunity to directly influence how we operate and to embed sustainable practices into our core business model. My role involves overseeing all aspects of operations, from procurement to logistics, which has given me a unique position to drive meaningful change. By rethinking our approach to resource management, reducing waste, and encouraging our subcontractors to adopt greener practices, I've been able to make sustainability an integral part of our work culture. I've also shared insights and experiences through various blog articles and posts, highlighting practical ways SMEs can embrace sustainability. My focus has been on providing actionable advice that smaller companies can realistically implement, helping them understand that even small steps can lead to significant positive outcomes. These articles aim to demystify sustainability and present it as a series of achievable milestones rather than an overwhelming challenge. By sharing these insights, I hope to inspire others to take practical steps toward a more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/dzDg7Trc #GreenerTogether #LinkedInNewsEurope

Reading Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard sparked a reflection on something central to both my work and my roots—the role of Indigenous knowledge systems in building a sustainable future. Chouinard’s vision of business as a force for good mirrors the guiding principles found in Indigenous cultures: environmental stewardship, resilience, and interconnectedness with nature. In my latest blog, I explore how Indigenous knowledge offers a powerful framework for tackling today’s global challenges, from cultural preservation to innovative, sustainable practices. This wisdom, passed down through generations, is not only relevant—it’s essential for a future where people, places, and planet are equally valued. 🌱 👉 Let My People Go Surfing was recommended to me some time ago by Savannah Peterson. It’s a must-read for anyone passionate about sustainable business practices, environmental stewardship, and ethical leadership. Yvon Chouinard’s insights will inspire you to rethink traditional business models, showing how purpose-driven companies can thrive while prioritizing people and the planet. https://lnkd.in/gFFRAuZp #IndigenousKnowledge #SustainableFuture #EnvironmentalStewardship #LetMyPeopleGoSurfing #ARAJourneys #CulturalPreservation #Sustainability #IndigenousWisdom

The global economy is at a crossroads, reliant on finite resources. We face a choice: continue the linear path of depletion or embrace a circular economy for sustainable growth. As our population and consumption surge, we witness a rapid depletion of these resources. The linear economy, perfected over 150 years, extracts, produces, and discards. It's a system destined for failure. Circular economy principles offer a solution, redefining our relationship with materials. The Circular Economy isn't just about reshaping our consumption habits. It's a powerful tool in reducing the built environment's carbon footprint. By reimagining how we design, construct, and deconstruct buildings, we can significantly minimize waste and emissions. This not only conserves resources but also reduces the energy-intensive processes associated with manufacturing new materials. Transitioning to circularity unlocks innovation and economic resilience. Can we achieve this in our lifetimes? Absolutely. Life itself, a model of sustainability for billions of years, operates in a circular manner. Wanna know more? I had the immense honor of participating in the SailGP Impact League as a judge last season and look forward to doing so again in 2025! SailGP was the first sport in the world to have two podiums & two trophies - one for sport and one for the planet. As well as racing for glory on the water, teams are also racing to win the Impact League with sustainability at the center. SailGP has teamed up with Creatures United - the organization that is on a mission to help humans understand the biodiversity crisis the planet is facing - to create a team of six Creatures with human-like characteristics. A team of champions for the League’s Purpose storytelling, and advocates of the Impact League. As it stands, 2 million species are threatened with extinction - a global crisis that is impacting every aspect of our lives as humans, from food to water; medicines to climate. Together, Creatures United and SailGP aim to show that the human world and the natural world are not separate, but one and the same thing. And that together we have the power to reverse this crisis, affecting our planet. We’re all in the same boat. Fiona Morgan Hugo Miller Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g2PevxGH.

https://lnkd.in/d7c9rTZZ Why marine sustainability is not taken seriously. There could be several reasons why some people do not take marine sustainability seriously: 1. Lack of Awareness: Some individuals may not be aware of the issues facing marine ecosystems and the importance of their conservation. They may have limited exposure to information about marine sustainability or may not understand the long-term consequences of their actions on the marine environment. 2. Conflicting Interests: Economic interests, such as fishing, shipping, or offshore industries, may conflict with marine sustainability measures. Some people prioritize short-term economic gains over long-term environmental sustainability. They may not see the economic benefits of a healthy marine ecosystem or may believe that the costs outweigh the benefits. 3. Denial or Skepticism: Some individuals may deny or be skeptical about the scientific evidence supporting the need for marine sustainability. They may question the validity of research or believe that environmental concerns are exaggerated or politically motivated. Denial or skepticism can prevent people from taking these issues seriously. 4. Lack of Personal Connection: People who do not have personal experiences with the marine environment may not feel directly impacted or connected to it. Their daily lives may not involve regular interactions or dependencies on the ocean, leading to a lack of personal motivation to prioritize marine sustainability. 5. Government and Policy Inefficiencies: Governments may fail to implement or enforce effective policies and regulations to protect marine ecosystems. Inadequate or inconsistent policies can create a perception that marine sustainability is not a priority, leading people to believe that their individual actions will not make a significant difference. 6. Short-term Thinking: People often prioritize immediate needs and benefits over long-term consequences. Marine sustainability often requires long-term planning and efforts that may not provide immediate rewards. This short-term thinking can discourage individuals from taking actions to support marine sustainability. 7. Prioritization of Other Issues: With numerous global challenges, some people may prioritize other pressing issues such as poverty, health, or climate change over marine sustainability. They may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of problems and choose to focus their attention and resources on different areas. Arivo.online
