LATAM...the silent giant. Latin America is rapidly emerging as a critical player in the global economy, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, sustainability, and technology, despite often being considered part of the "developing world." Countries like Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are leading the charge in renewable energy, harnessing abundant natural resources to power growth. Brazil, for instance, generates over 90% of its electricity from renewable sources, mainly hydropower and solar energy, while Chile has made significant strides in solar energy and green hydrogen production according to the World Economic Forum and data from RSM Global. In addition to their energy advances, these countries are also home to some of the world's largest lithium reserves, crucial for the production of electric vehicle batteries. Argentina and Chile, in particular, are becoming key players in this sector, setting the stage for future economic growth driven by the global transition to green energy. Moreover, the technological innovation seen in sectors like agriculture and fintech is positioning countries like Brazil and Mexico as silent giants. These nations are attracting significant foreign investments through reforms that promote renewable energy, nearshoring, and digital transformation. These advancements demonstrate that Latin America, often underestimated, is becoming a key player in the global shift toward sustainability and technological innovation. 🌍 Exciting news in the world of renewable energy! 🚀 Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, alongside A.P. Moller Capital and TE H2, has signed a preliminary agreement with the Moroccan government for land reservation for the Chbika project. This innovative initiative aims to harness 1 GW of onshore solar and wind energy to produce green hydrogen through the electrolysis of desalinated seawater, ultimately generating 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually! Philip Christiani, a partner at CIP, highlighted Morocco's pivotal role in the global energy transition: “Morocco is well-positioned to be a key partner for Europe and the world in achieving net zero targets.” This project represents a significant step forward in sustainable energy development, marking the first green hydrogen initiative under the “Offre Maroc” framework. Exciting times ahead. #EnergyTransition #GreenHydrogen #Sustainability #Morocco #Innovation #NetZero

José Manuel Entrecanales, chairman and CEO of ACCIONA, stated today that "it is worrying that the US, Europe, and other advanced economies only installed 20% of the world’s new renewable energy capacity in 2023," when their share of the global GDP exceeds 50%. According to José Manuel Entrecanales, this imbalance is due to the fact that "the main element for attraction of capital, which is key to developing #renewableenergy, is not working as well as it should. We tend to forget that the overwhelming element that moves private capital is the risk-reward equation. This needs to be enhanced to match the excellent performance of China in this industry." #IRENA14A

#throwback to SIEW 2024; so many exciting new developments were announced with one of the biggest being Singapore’s plan to import 6GW of renewable energy by 2035, coming from regional countries like Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia. This includes the country’s plans to standardise RECs across borders for ease of recognition. ⚡️ We fully support this stance, as we believe renewable energy generated is the same everywhere, regardless of its source. By standardising RECs, there will be an increase in market transparency and liquidity, enhanced market confidence, and improved environmental impact. Watch on to find out more about what our CEO Matthijs Guichelaar has to say when interviewed by CNA on the topic!
