🌺 The preservation of biological diversity is crucial for sustaining life on Earth, providing the essential foundation for food production. Zentis recognizes the significance of the agricultural and food sectors in contributing to the protection of biodiversity and habitats. As a testament to our commitment, we proudly participate in the Food for Biodiversity initiative, established by the industry in March 2021. This initiative aims to safeguard biological diversity within the food industry and throughout the supply chain, playing a vital role in preventing the extinction of species. To realize these goals, stakeholders are actively involved in projects and measures. We will keep informing you about these projects, as we believe it is important to speak about these topics, since the actively help taking care of our planet's resources. In line with our NaturRein philosophy, we are dedicated to supporting biological diversity through various projects, including the establishment of a natural orchard in Germany. At Zentis, we understand the importance of our role in fostering biodiversity and are committed to making a positive impact on the planet. 🌍🌿 #Zentis #Biodiversity #Sustainability #SustainabilityStrategy #EcologicalEfforts

An insightful letter by #JonathanCazabonne, a PhD student at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (#UQAT) and a member of the board of directors of #Mycosphaera, was published in #LeDevoir and co-signed by over 70 individuals representing the majority of Quebec's mycological community, including myself, along with Canadian and international mycologists, directors of organizations, and biodiversity research centers. The letter highlights the importance of protecting fungal biodiversity within Quebec's ecosystems: 'Le Québec doit aussi miser sur les champignons pour préserver la biodiversité.' https://lnkd.in/e-pF8gNV?

At the @ArsElectronica Festival 2024, we attended the workshop "Plant Life on the POSTCITY Roof" led by botanist Friedrich Schwarz. Friedrich Schwarz is part of the Naturschutzbund and has been researching Austrian plants for many years, including urban areas for their biodiversity. He found that cities have a higher biodiversity than one would initially expect, and often even higher than rural, intensively farmed areas. In our recent blog, we shared insights from the inspiring and interesting workshop and about the crucial role of #CitizenScience when it comes to #biodiversity. Against the global trend of biodiversity loss, populations of large mammals like the wolf and wild boar are making a remarkable recovery across Europe. However, this resurgence has sparked both hope and anxiety, particularly in rural communities. Our ongoing research highlights the importance of open dialogue with farmers in navigating the return of large mammals, showing that coexistence is possible when their perspectives are considered. The relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functions is understudied at ecosystem scale and eddy covariance flux sites. We used a spectral diversity proxy of biodiversity to show positive effects on productivity functions, while β-diversity helped to predict carbon and water use efficiencies. Have a look at my recent article if you are interested in the effect of biodiversity on ecosystem functioning! https://lnkd.in/ePvYTzAR

Climate change is an issue that must be put into consideration by anyone in Leadership in the sense of 'As a leader how can I contribute to mitigating climate change, for a better and sustainable future?' I believe every societal sector has a solution it can provide to climate change mitigation. It's a matter of perspective and how one can tap into being a solution provider.

In 2018, I walked into our Managing Director's office, not knowing how things unfold in the coming years. As an Event Manager, I had grown increasingly concerned about our industry's insufficient accountability for its impact on the planet. So I had a conversation. Several months later, we took decisive steps forward. We transitioned to green electricity, began tracking our greenhouse gas emissions, and developed comprehensive guides on making events more responsible. Together, we established the role of Sustainability Manager and initiated a pilot project to implement the #ISO20121 standard for sustainable event management at George P Johnson Germany. We actively participate in networks, event stages and universities to advocate for a responsible experiental industry. And we won't stop there. As I'm turning 33 today, I want to encourage you: Keep dreaming no matter how idealistic your hopes are. Walk through that door and have this conversation. Challenge the things you think can't be challenged. You will encounter numerous obstacles along the way, but ultimately, with the support of like-minded allies, visionary leaders, and dedicated sponsors, you can make the difference, inspire others and lead by example. Take three minutes of your time and listen to the commendable Jane Goodall. The challenges ahead of us are tremendous. Conducting sustainable business is imperative and requires orchestrated efforts. And no matter where you come from or who you are, you're a part of the ensemble. A heartfelt thank you to all the people at GPJ who have believed in me and paved the way: Jens Arnegger, Oliver Ehmke, Caroline Williams, Oliver Hassler, Lisa Mayerle, Chris Meyer and Edward Scott. #MakeNoSmallPlans #CorporateResponsibility #SustainableEvents #Sustainability

Hmmm… How does this tip the balance of healthy discourse? Perhaps a better framing should be that leaders should all be required proper science education to become more responsible decision makers. Anybody who would be allowed sway over science-based decisions should go through some form of screening for base knowledge and understanding on each topic. #WEF #opinionism #sustainability
