🌍 Join us for an engaging online workshop: "Rethinking Peace and Conflict: The ‘Colonial Underside’ and Its Conceptual Ground" 🗓 Date: November 4, 2024 🕑 Time: 2-5 PM (CET) Our conceptual and theoretical understanding of peace work and conflict transformation is often based on Eurocentric assumptions. These characterise the self-image, attitudes and concrete goals of international peace projects - usually dominated by actors from the Global North. By marginalising other perspectives, epistemic violence is perpetuated and equal recognition and partnerships are made more difficult. In this workshop, we want to create space for critical reflection and interactive creativity: What understandings of peace and conflict exist in locally led peace initiatives but are not heard and recognised? How can a different conceptual framework inform our understanding of partnerships and offer new insights into peace and conflict? Robinah Nampanga will give insights into the Ubuntu Philosophy and provide impulses for conflict transformation from an anti-racist perspective. Inputs will be provided by: ✨Keynote: Robinah Nampanga, Shining Ubuntu 🎨Graphic recording: Jai Wanigesinghe 🤝Host and facilitator: Cora Bieß, Platform Peaceful Conflict Transformation, Registration: To register and for any inquiries, please reach out to Cora Bieß at cora.biess@pzkb.de Please note: We do not send out registration confirmations. A Zoom link will be provided a few days before the event. More information: https://lnkd.in/dKWPwBDD 👉 Feel free to share this invitation with your network! Together, we can foster a more inclusive dialogue on peace and conflict transformation.

This past Tuesday, November 5th, I was glad to return to an interact project—Nexus—to speak, share, and discuss the role of education in empowering peace and conflict resolution. We also discussed whether we should prioritize peace over justice, exploring how we can achieve justice in peaceful ways. Additionally, we talked about small- to large-scale initiatives that can significantly contribute to global peacebuilding efforts. We did some journaling as well. I asked the audience five reflective questions and joined them in answering, which felt deeply reflective. The questions I asked were:1. What does "peace" mean to you personally? Describe a moment when you felt at peace, and consider what elements contributed to that feeling.2. Identify situations or behaviors that often trigger conflict for you. How do these triggers affect your approach to resolving disagreements?3. Is reconciliation always necessary, or can peace be achieved with an unresolved conflict? Share your thoughts and any experiences that have influenced your perspective.4. What are some differences (cultural, ideological, generational) that you see as sources of conflict? How can understanding these differences contribute to peacebuilding?5. Imagine you’re looking back on your life years from now. What impact would you hope to have made toward peace and conflict resolution, in your personal life and beyond? (P.S. In the photo below, you can see me being introduced to the audience and feeling comfortable as always lol my face says everything)

Today, I had the privilege of attending the five-day Peace Ambassador Program organized by Servelead Humanitarian Initiative, themed "One Nigeria, One Voice for Peace." Dr. Kingsley Udegbunam, our first guest speaker, delivered an insightful session on Conflict Mapping and Analysis. He provided an in-depth exploration of key concepts including Conflict, Peace, and Violence. Dr. Udegbunam elaborated on the essential components of conflict analysis and mapping which are: 1. Issues: The specific problems, grievances, or disputes that drive the conflict. 2. Actors: The individuals, groups, organizations, or institutions involved in or affected by the conflict. 3. Contexts: The environment or background in which the conflict takes place. 4. Power Relations: The distribution of power among the various actors involved in the conflict. 5. Perceptions: The subjective views and interpretations of the conflict and its elements by the actors involved. 6. Positions: The specific interests, goals, or demands of each actor in the conflict. Dr. Udegbunam also introduced various methods of conflict analysis and mapping, including Fact-finding, Analysis Meetings, and Case Studies. He explained tools such as the Onion/Doughnut/Coconut model, the ABC Triangle, the Conflict Tree, and the Conflict Map to illustrate these concepts effectively. Mr. @Esimaje Micheal Onoseme, our second guest speaker, addressed the topic of Tolerance for Interfaith Peacebuilding. He defined tolerance as the willingness to accept differing behaviors and beliefs, even if one does not agree with or approve of them. Tolerance also involves the ability to endure difficult conditions and view situations from others' perspectives. Mr. Onoseme emphasized the importance of tolerance in reducing friction and conflict and highlighted how it provides opportunities for learning and growth from diverse viewpoints. The session with both guest speakers was highly interactive, engaging, and impactful. Their insights and expertise greatly enriched our understanding of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. #serveleadhumanitarianinitiative #thenigeriawewant #peaceambassadorsprogram #onenigeriaonevoiceforpeace

As a peace advocate and conflict management expert. Continuous learning and engagement is a very vital core. The conflict sensitivity course has opened my eyes to a whole lot of important issues in peacebuilding and conflict management. However, understanding how conflicts emerge, escalate, and impact societies is crucial for effective peacebuilding efforts. This course provided invaluable insights into identifying, analyzing, and addressing conflicts with sensitivity and empathy. In today's interconnected world, conflict sensitivity isn't just relevant; it's essential for fostering sustainable peace and stability. By developing a deeper understanding of the root causes and dynamics of conflicts, we can work towards more inclusive and lasting solutions that benefit everyone involved. 🌱 Whether you're a policymaker, humanitarian worker, or simply a concerned citizen, the principles of conflict sensitivity offer practical tools for navigating complex societal issues and promoting positive change. Let's strive to build a more peaceful and harmonious world together! 🌟 #Peacebuilding #ConflictSensitivity #USIP #Voiceofpeace

For anyone interested in my research on conflict analysis, I've uploaded a short video outing the basics of what I'm trying to achieve. Link for the questionnaire is in my previous post. Please, please, please, if you make judgements about international conflicts as a job (whether formally or informally), please consider filling it out! Not only will it support research that will make us all better, but each response will result in a donation to War Child.
