Wings of Prosperity: Arjun Ranjane's Poultry Farming Arjun Maruti Ranjane never imagined he'd become a poultry farmer. Life in the Sakhar village in Velhe taluka in Maharashtra had always been about scraping by, but a meeting with the Raintree Foundation team changed everything for Arjun. "Chickens? Here?" Arjun laughed when the idea was first proposed. His mind raced with images of mongoose and wild cats stalking through the night. "They'd be lunch before sunrise!" As Arjun saw problems, the Raintree Foundation team saw potential. They helped him build a simple shelter, a cage for the birds that was sturdy enough to keep predators at bay. Still skeptical, Arjun decided to take a leap of faith. With fifty donated hens clucking away in their new home, Arjun's small poultry farm came to life. Soon, the steady income from egg sales began to make a real difference in his household. But the true magic of Arjun's venture revealed itself later. Even when the hens stopped laying, they weren't done contributing to his success. Selling the mature birds brought in an extra INR 400 to INR 600 per bird – a small fortune in Arjun's world. Today, you'll find Arjun tending to his flock with a smile on his face. "Who knew these little birds could change so much?" he often muses. The steady income has brought stability to his family, and he's always dreaming up ways to expand. Arjun's story is more than just about chickens. It's about the power of an open mind and a willingness to try something new. In a village where tradition often rules, Arjun became a pioneer. His success serves as an inspiration to his neighbors, proving that with the right information and a bit of courage, anyone can carve out a brighter future. At the Raintree Foundation, we believe in the potential of our community members like Arjun and the power of community-driven initiatives. We are committed to fostering sustainable livelihoods and empowering rural communities to build a brighter and resilient future. The issues with fish farming in FoodPrint's infographic are a great start, but we think the biggest ones are still missing: (1) Fish farming is a CAUSE of overfishing, not a solution to it, with an estimated 40% of individual wild-caught fish (11% by weight) fed to farmed fish today.. (2) Inhumane farming practices cause suffering on an industrial scale for over 90 billion fish each year. But we can solve this 🌱. Charities like Fish Welfare Initiative are making fish farming humane, whilst organisations like The Good Food Institute are making sustainable alternatives better and more available 🚀 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴: - 40% 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵: https://lnkd.in/efid5iwq - 11% 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵: https://lnkd.in/eEjyaaCS - 90 𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵: https://lnkd.in/ey5YzkKA

Weeks ago, these does amazed us by giving their first birth to 18 adorable babies.. It was a testament to our exceptional care and dedication to goat farming. We experienced the joy of witnessing new life and reaped the benefits. Goat milk provided us with nutritious goodness, while sustainable meat production met the demand for healthy protein. This is the reason why you should invest in goat farming whilst in vour Youths 1. A goat can give you two deliveries in a year. Assuming an average birth of two babies per delivery and zero mortality, you can have 5 goats after 395days from one goat. 2. Goats are very cheap to feed compared to cattle, especially during this Elnino period where natural pastures are scarce. 3. Goat manure is a natural fertilizer enhanced soil fertility for horticultural produce and crop farming, and goat grazing promoted environmental sustainability. Goat production business is taking centre stage in Zimbabwe livestock farming now and we will soon be a mature industry like South Africa so that we take advantage of the export market that requires much bigger scale than we supply currently. As aspiring young farmers, we embraced the opportunity for entrepreneurship, developing vital skills. Together, we created a brighter future through goat farming, nurturing a sustainable and prosperous path 🌱🐐 ❤️ #youthinagriculture #farminginzimbabwe #successbreedssuccess #youngandfarming #zimyoungfarmers

#MomentInFocus: Red Napier Cultivation in Andhra Pradesh. (📸: Abhishek Reddy) Fall Army Worm, a pest, causes yield loss of 15%-20% in maize. The worm larvae primarily feed at night, making it difficult for farmers to manage infestations. When planted alongside maize fields, Napier grass acts as a trap crop as it attracts the worms and drives them towards the grass. Also, Napier grass is a source of fodder for livestock. It is particularly beneficial for ruminants like cattle due to its rich nutrient content during early vegetative growth. We are promoting Red and Green Napier Grass cultivation in AP and Telangana. 6,500 farmers adopted this! #agriculture #farmers #food #FoodSecurity #climate #impact #Sustainability #SDGs #drreddysfoundation
