Marine pollution is caused by all the substances discharged into seas and oceans due to human activities. It reaches marine environments through rivers, winds, the air, or through direct discharges into the sea. Today, we are all impacted and concerned...therefore, we must take action and implement concrete, sustainable measures tailored to local contexts... RE-SWEEP is working on several strategic and projects to prevent and reduce marine pollution from waste, particularly plastic waste in the Mediterranean... The projects are carried out in partnership with public institutions, the private sector, NGOs, and researchers... #Marine_Litter #Circular_Economy #Plastics #Policy #Field_work

Despite the presence of advanced desalination systems on board freight ships, a paradoxical dilemma persists: crews opt to load pallets of #drinkingwater in #plasticbottles rather than consuming the water derived from desalination. Besides the health risks associated with solely consuming desalinated water, this practice continues to contribute to the escalating plastic pollution in the oceans, for which the freight shipping industry bears a significant responsibility. In light of these challenges, the introduction of atmospheric water generators such as the innovative #HPT300M https://lnkd.in/dKP4svuA by #Huprotec is being considered as a #promising #solution. This technology could not only #reduce reliance on #plasticbottles but also decrease the environmental impact of freight ships. HuProTec GmbH has made it their mission to address this pressing issue and encourage the industry to adopt more sustainable practices to #safeguard the #health of #seafarers. 🌍 Interesting Fact: 🌍 Approximately 80% of marine debris is plastic waste, contaminating our oceans from the surface to deep-sea sediments. However, waste pickers are crucial in addressing this environmental crisis. In developing nations, they collect around 60% of plastic waste, thereby preventing plastics from entering our oceans and safeguarding marine life. Let's acknowledge the significant impact of waste pickers in constructing a more sustainable future! At TakaNiAjira Foundation, we are dedicated to amplifying the voices of waste pickers and backing their endeavors in environmental conservation. Join us in supporting waste pickers and preserving our environment. 🔗 www.takaniajira.org 📧 info@takaniajira.org #TakaNiAjira #WastePickers #PlasticPollution #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction #SupportWastePickers

🌊 The Mediterranean Sea is experiencing a severe plastic pollution crisis, with over 200,000 tonnes of plastic waste entering its waters each year. This pollution endangers marine life, ecosystems, and human health. Our association is committed to tackle this issue through project funding, coordinating and facilitating the sharing of experience between committed stakeholders around the Mediterranean Sea. 💡Learn more at beyondplasticmed.org #StopPlasticPollution IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation

🚣♀️ Today we celebrate the International Day of Action for #Rivers! 🌊 Did you know that 70-80% of marine plastic pollution originates on land and enters the oceans via rivers? 💡 Rivers can play a vital role in reducing marine litter, as they are a major transport pathway for plastics from land. Understanding, monitoring, and forecasting river plastic flows can help us plan interventions at the right time and place to capture plastic before it reaches the oceans. 🎥 Take a quick tour of the GPML Risk and Warning System for macroplastic litter in rivers, developed by UNEP-DHI in collaboration with UN Environment Programme Freshwater Ecosystem Unit and Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter 👇 #IDAR2024 #waterforall #actionforrivers #plasticpollution

Did you know that the common cleaning products we use could be contributing to water pollution and harming marine life? Many of these solutions contain chemicals that, when washed down our drains, end up in rivers and oceans, disrupting ecosystems. However, there's a brighter, greener path forward with our biodegradable cleaning products. These eco-friendly alternatives break down naturally, reducing the risk of environmental damage. The Great Global Nurdle Hunt is back for 2024! Save the Date 1st- 30th September 2024 in your diary and get ready to take part in The Great Global Nurdle Hunt and help call for an end to nurdle pollution globally! The Great Global Nurdle Hunt is our annual citizen science event, which asks organisations, communities and individuals to organise nurdle hunts all around the world to draw attention to this issue and collect a snapshot of data on global plastic pellet pollution. Nurdles, which are small plastic pellets used as raw material in plastic production, are harmful to the environment because of marine pollution , toxin absorption and non-biodegradability . #nurdles #stopplasticpollution #cleanbeach #protectmarinewildlife #nomoreplastic
