This is just a quick reminder that if you haven't already applied but are interested in the Innovative Voices Program from the IBPA, you still have until June 16, 2024, to apply! Five publishers will be chosen to take place in this cohort, which focuses on publishers working in and for marginalized communities. "It is IBPA’s hope that this program provides a solid means for publishers from marginalized communities to gain the access, knowledge, and tools needed to succeed in ways that they haven’t been able to or allowed to in the past. The selected publishers will be chosen because they are creating exceptional and original titles by and about marginalized communities, and in doing so, these publishers are changing publishing and our society for the better. The program will open doors for these innovative voices that were shut for far too long." You can learn more about the program and apply here: https://lnkd.in/eHQCvdX3 #pathtopublishing #ptppress #ibpa #independentbookpublishersassociation #innovativevoicesprogram #dei

🌐 Dr. Fanta Aw, CEO of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, gave an inspiring keynote speech to close out PRME Time at the #PRMEGlobalForum! Some highlights: “Every single one of the SDGs has a component of diversity, equity, and inclusion.” “Our students are central to figuring out what avenues we need to prioritize. Our ability to place students at the center will be incredibly important to how we move the agenda forward.” "PRME and NAFSA have overlapping goals in promoting ethical, responsible, and globally-minded education. By advocating for responsible educational policies and incentives and developing online learning platforms, we can set global standards for responsible business and management education at a global reach." Just got back from the ECPR general conference in Dublin, where I gave my first ever presentation based on the work we are doing in d@rts, our HorizonEurope project that started in January. Within the first work package, we analyse how performing arts education is connected to cultural literacy learning and social cohesion and inclusion in curricula and cultural and educational policies in the seven partner countries. In addition, during the spring, I collected and analysed policy documents given by the EU and the Council of Europe. The presentation in Dublin scrutinised those EU and CoE documents. In this presentation, I chose to focus on my oldie goldie topic: citizenship. I was analysing whether and how cultural and global citizenship were produced in the documents and how the core dimensions of citizenship – access, rights, responsibilities and identity – were present in these constructions. I also paid attention to what kind of competences, such as a competence for dialogue, were linked to citizenship in the documents. Our panel concluded that young citizens need and deserve support in building their future. In d@rts, we seek to explore how performing arts education could contribute to this. #ecprsg24 #dialoguingarts

Feeling equal parts proud, heartened and humbled whilst reading the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Annual Report 2023, "Journey Ahead With a New Perspective", which under the segment 05 "Pushing New Boundaries", featured the SUSS School of Law Team of Hansel Chua and Felicia Leong. The Team SUSS School of Law made history in 2023 by winning the National Round of the International Negotiation Competition, in just our second appearance ever, and clinching 6th overall at the International Rounds in Rome, Italy later that year. As time has passed and stock has been taken, the achievements of the team cannot be understated and indeed standards as well as possibilities have been set for those who come after. As demonstrated by how the team of Aaliyah Das Adele Lim came agonisingly close to defending our throne this year, our commitment and performances in the field of conflict resolution reinforce how we can not only lead the charge, we belong on the global stage. Well done again to Team SUSS School of Law and its entire INC Community which continues to grow from strength to strength each year. Looking forward to going again next year, and demonstrating once again, that we not only dream about achieving, we dare and will do so, all the while flying the SUSS flag high. Rule of 3( last post for the day): I had an amazing time at the International Economic Development Council Annual Conference in Denver! The participants were incredible, and it was inspiring to have the arts integrated into the space to elevate the dialogue around the commodification of culture and its economic impact. It was an absolute pleasure to co-present with Ujamaa EDC Executive Director Nyree Ramsey and to be introduced by Naomi Tucker, DEI team lead at Fly Denver. A big thank you to Claudia and the entire IEDC team for organizing such a meaningful event! Here are some key takeaways: 1️⃣ If value hasn’t been historically allotted, it’s difficult to add value five, ten, or even 200 years later. 2️⃣ Everyone's lens is different, and creating an equitable funding structure—potentially with blind reviews—is imperative. 3️⃣ Culture is economic development. Looking forward to continuing this important conversation and pushing for equity-driven strategies in 2025 and beyond ( photos from mural Denver Co-The Heart of Five Points). #Equity #EconomicDevelopment #Culture #IEDC #PayEquity #NOLABA #UjamaaEDC

One thing I just learned from Prof. Peter Maasen's keynote 'Reconfiguring Internationalization of Higher Education: Global Trends in Institutional Transformation' at the HRK Advance Conference (https://lnkd.in/ep7a5fNd) is the usefulness of the Academic Freedom Index (https://lnkd.in/eZmRym2e) for issues of HEI exchange and internationalization.
