On #WorldFoodDay, the Netherlands reaffirms its commitment to ensuring food security globally through innovative and sustainable practices. ✨ This year’s theme, The Right to Food, highlights the pressing need for everyone to access nutritious food. As global challenges grow, food security is more important than ever. In #WestAfrica, the Netherlands is working with local partners to boost horticultural development and promote agroecological solutions. In Côte d'Ivoire, the HortiNord project focuses on empowering young ‘hortipreneurs’ by providing training in sustainable greenhouse farming and modern agricultural techniques. This program is transforming horticulture and creating opportunities for future generations. Meanwhile, in #Senegal, the HortiCôte program addresses food sovereignty by supporting vegetable production through sustainable, climate-resilient practices. By partnering with Dutch businesses, we’re fostering innovation and collaboration to ensure a stable food supply, while also creating jobs and promoting youth entrepreneurship. Together, through initiatives like these, we can build a world where everyone has the right to healthy, sustainable food. NEWS STORY ⎮ SIANI's 2024 regional network meeting in Bangkok, Thailand gathered agrifood experts to discuss and exchange knowledge on South and Southeast Asia's food systems. 𝐈𝐂𝐏'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝟓-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲: We focus on the megatrends 🌍 climate change and 🔝 youth. In 2024-2028 we will 📍 continue working in Honduras, Brazil, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, and Indonesia 👩👩👧👧 reach 15,800 smallholder farming families 🌿 reach 5,000 youth keep supporting the participants of our projects in: 💯 improving their livelihoods 💵 increasing the competitiveness of farmer organizations 🌽 applying farm diversification strategies 🌱 implementing regenerative agriculture and agroforestry. To accomplish this, all seven ICP shareholders committed to this new 5-year strategy: Delta Cafés, Franck , Joh. Johannson Kaffe, Lavazza Group, Löfbergs, Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG), Tchibo. Furthermore, we are cooperating with Sida and Austrian Development Agency as public partners and The J.M. #FoodSystem 🌍| The world urgently needs to transition to sustainable, resilient food systems in response to climate change and biodiversity loss. Food and agriculture play a crucial role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, but require more sustainable, equitable and climate-smart systems. In this context, the DeSIRA initiative (Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture), funded by the European Commission, aims to contribute to climate-relevant, productive and sustainable transformation of agriculture and food systems. DeSIRA-LIFT supports the DeSIRA initiative to transform agri-food systems in the global South in a sustainable, climate-relevant way, by assisting research and innovation projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. This week, DeSIRA-LIFT is facilitating the DeSIRA Connect Days in Kigali, where DeSIRA projects in Eastern and Southern Africa come together to exchange their experiences and discuss critical issues in research, innovation and policy that need to be addressed to work towards a more resilient and sustainable future for all.
